This film was horrible from beginning to end. The acting has horrendous. The only thing worse was the dialogue. Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about this movie. Liam Neeson you don't need the money you should have stayed away.

Second worst movie I have ever watched. Unfortunately I didn't read any reviews and just fell victim to the jacket art and comments. Very thin plot, Lots of special effects. Don't waste your money.

Ok when i first saw the previews for this movie it looked like it was nothing more than action in tranformers style so i took a pass on it at the theater...now i wish i had seen it in the theater. this movie has so much more to it than just action i was very pleaantly suprised to find out.. you can clearly see the awe and respect director peter berg has for the military throughout the film i throughly enjoyed this movie so if you havn't seen it because you didn't like the preview i say see it anyway forget the preview because it's soo much better than that i think everything is just right in this movie the right amount of everything...

I waited for this movie to come out on Blu-Ray because of all of the hype about it. THE HYPE WAS RIGHT ON THIS ONE! It has it all. Comedy, action, patriotism, emotion........ Everything. From the very beginning to end...... Amazing! There are even enuendos of the game In the movie ,which was a nice touch. For all of the nay sayers about the plot being lacking, what the heck is so hard to get? Reptilian aliens received a signal from space that we sent out, trying to reach their planet because we discovered a planet that is habitable in our known universe other than ours, and they came to take over. They didnt come to say "hello give us E.T. Back"! You only need half of a brain to see that the plot is not lacking! If you do, then you probably think that "The Notebook" was the best movie ever made! (stupid, depressing movie BTW) Highly recommended! Even the way they brought back the U.S.S. Missouri w/the original surviving crew! If you don't buy it, rent it. But not buying it will be one of your biggest regrets. great for the whole family. Language is not bad. But the violence may be too much for some little ones. Even though most of the deaths are done PG style. Not a blood and gore movie. Just a great alien butt kicking flick from beginning to end.

This movie is amazing precisely because of the cheesy one liners and predicable nature of it and the fact that it features several veterans in key roles. If you just go with it and BELIEVE it you'll love it so much more than sitting there looking for whats wrong or how ridiculous or how dumb the dialog can be. The movie starts with a funny sequence and break-in of a convenience store that pretty much copies a break-in that happened in real life. Hilarious. Then the movie does it's thing and you just go along with it for an hour until the most epic ending battle pretty much ever (more on that later) Prior to the ending is the scene where the game pretty much ties in the board game. The aliens and humans can only detect each other visually but the japanese captain comes up with this plan of tracking them via buoy displacement. So they plot a grid on the screen using the buoys as reference points and then start shooting blindly in anticipation of where the aliens are going. Pretty clever tie-in in my opinion. Then their destroyer gets blown up just as they've destroyed the last alien ship but they're not done yet, they have to blow up a satellite array on Oahu. The crew is in dismay and they're all like, "we don't even have a ship" when the mighty Mo comes into the picture and Hopper says "yes we do. we have a battleship". Then they're still reluctant about the plan "that thing's a museum" which he responds with "Not today" (YES!) Then the engineer is still all "i dont even know how to turn this thing on, and even if i did we dont have enough crew" and then the crusty old sea men from WW2 (they're real veterans by the way. YES!!) are all conveniently spaced around the ship and come to the rescue and AC/DC starts playing. EPIC!!! then i can't even finish this because you have to enjoy it for yourself. just watch it. There's another character (also a real veteran who lost both legs) who has a couple of amazing one liners like "you're going to aquire that courage" and "lets see if we can't buy the earth another day" PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE

Typical action movie, lots of action, explosions, blood and sweat. No Oscars here but you should not have been expecting any. It is just a fun movie, especially if you understand that it has NOTHING to do with the original family game. Cast works with all of their different quirks. Rihanna was better than I thought that she might be, and I am not a fan of her in the first place. Good to buy if you catch it on sale like I did at $17.99, not for $30 or $40 dollars though.

A great Saturday afternoon popcorn action movie. Action throughout and audience foot stomping cheering. Tell me you didn't wipe a tear or two when the old veterans returned to duty. They were the old breed. Today's warriors will be the same.

Other than the Transformers franchise, I'm not a big fan of movies trying to capitalize on the toys of our youth. My husband wanted this and I fully expected to hate it- and I absolutely loved it instead. It was cleverly done, had some surprising faces, and kept you engaged the whole time. Loved it!

    Waste of time

You’re in command of a vessel with no radar, cut off from all reinforcements, and seriously outmatched by your opponent. Your opponent being aliens. Do you panic? Do you surrender? Do you pay more than ten dollars to see it? In 2005, NASA has discovered a planet outside our solar system with conditions similar to those on Earth. Hoping that it contains intelligent life, they construct a powerful array of satellite dishes in Hawaii to transmit a signal to that planet. Simultaneously, unambitious Hawaiian native Alex Hopper (played by John Carter from John Carter Taylor Kitsch) meets a beautiful woman in a bar he wants to impress. The woman (played by Brooklyn Decker) wants a burrito but the bartender won’t accommodate her. Hopper (Kitsch) hears this, introduces himself, and goes so far out of his way to impress her that he breaks into a minimart and is tasered by the police just as he’s approaching the beautiful woman, burrito in hand. Alex’s older brother Stone (played by Alexander Skarsgard) has had it with his brother’s antics and makes him join the Navy. Seven years later, Alex is a lieutenant and tactical officer on a destroyer and the beautiful woman, Samantha, (Decker) has accepted his marriage proposal, pending her father’s approval. Her father (played by Liam Neeson), an admiral whose character isn’t given a first name, is Alex’s superior who has disciplined him on several occasions and has grown just as frustrated with him as Hopper’s brother has. Then, during an international exercise with the Japanese Navy, the world and the island come under attack by the very same aliens they hoped to contact. Now, this isn’t the first movie ever to be based on a board game. Clue came out in 1985 and had a much better cast. Also, Clue is a game with characters in it. Battleship, on the other hand has none. It also doesn’t have aliens. While there is an actual battleship late in the film, the alien munitions resemble pegs, and the crew is forced to fire blind once they’ve lost radar, this movie has nothing to do with the game. Other detractors seem determined to lay the movies failures at Rihanna’s feet, this being her first acting role, but she really doesn’t have that many lines and the failures in Battleship are so much bigger than this one minor character. Whether Transformers turned out the way Michael Bay and Spielberg wanted it to, it was a box office smash. Battleship is an inferior imitation, and I say that as someone who doesn’t even like Transformers. Given how poorly it performed at the box office, I probably don’t have to say this, but skip it.

Great action movie and special effects. Some of the acting and the plot is a little lacking, but it is a fun movie to watch. The special effects reminds me of the movie Transformers, which I liked.
