Love them, except for the terrible sound quality

These are meant for sports, but in any physical activity, there is noise being created. Either the noise cancelling on these is non existent or they were not tested in the field. On a bike, the wind drowns out nearly everything I hear. In the gym, the radio playing and the metals colliding drown out my own headphones...and they are dug into my ears...how's this possible?
