Almost as good as the Animated Classic

Having played Gaston in the Broadway version of this show makes me a B&B snob. That being said, the acting was great in this film. Unfortunately, both Belle (Emma Watson) and Gaston (Luke Evans) could not hit all the notes in their roles. This resulted in the song "Home" (the BEST song from the Broadway show) being axed out of the film since it was not in Emma's vocal range. However, Dan Stevens excelled as Beast and the new song added for this film allowed him to shine. Great film --- but tough when Beast is a better singer than Belle. Fun for all ages and another winner for Disney.

This remake, full of amazing stars, manages to capture the magic of the animated version while humanizing the characters and expanding on the story. Emma Watson is outstanding as Belle, she is beautiful yet humble, fierce yet kind, intelligent yet down to earth, inventive. I highly recommend watching the bonus features, it will give you a whole new appreciation of Dan Stevens (the Beast) and what he went through to make this character. Perfect blend of live action and CGI. The cast (in front of the camera and behind) obviously felt incredibly attached and invested in the production.

I was a little reserved when first watching this film in theaters compared to the other Disney remakes but I was really surprised. It has all the songs (all be it a little changed) of the original animated film and a new song that all fits and well. CG work and acting is top notch too. The original animated Beauty and the Beast is my wife's favorite Disney film and she loves the live action version. The disk release has many different wonderful extras such a sing a long version of the film, deleted scenes and many more. Highly recommend if you are into musicals and/or Disney films.

Nothing new here just a cash grab family movie. I’m not a Disney sing along individual but if your going to see this see it in 3d. And for the record parents investigate the movies your kids watch because Hollywood likes to throw in inappropriate things and try to play like it’s innocent. And this one was very controversial on the news and I seen why

It's a Disney Classic gone live! Although the original animated is not to match, this will do.

I am a huge Beauty and the Beast fan, and when this live version came out in the theater, I went opening weekend to see it. When I knew it was coming out on blu-ray, I knew I had to pre-order it from Best Buy to have it in my collection as soon as possible. The movie is absolutely wonderful, cute, quirky, funny, and still remains true to it's classic animated version. Best Buy's service was quick and I received my blu-ray perfectly on time. This is a movie you will definitely want as a forever purchase as kids and adults will both love this film for years and years to come!

I had purchased this film for my wife's birthday. She and my teenage daughter sat down to watch and I reluctantly decided to sit with them. I wasn't particularly excited at the prospect because I though it would be strongly oriented to very small children. I was very pleasantly surprised. It was a very visually stunning film and the voice characterizations by the actors was very well done. I enjoyed the songs the film. It had a great appeal across many ages and types of people. I am glad I took the time to watch it and will gladly watch it again in the near future.

    Not as good as Original

While I still enjoyed this remake, it definitely feels bland and empty compared to the original cartoon. The original is Disney's one true masterpiece, so of course this one can't reach that level. Luke Evans as Gaston was spot on, although I wish he had sang some of the original parts closer to form. And Josh Gaad is the real standout as LeFou. Emma Watson was great, but seemed disconnected from Belle at times. Overall I still feel this film will be regarded as a classic. I know my daughter and wife love it passionately, so that's good enough for me.

Nice cover art inside and out, scratch issues

I will not be reviewing the movie since other sites focus on that. I will only be addressing the SteelBook, which is what differentiates this from the standard Blu-ray release. The cover art inside and out looks great and provides a nice change over the standard Blu-ray cover art. The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because, once again, the copy I received had a spine slash and light scratches on the front cover. And unsurprisingly, there were no extra copies available at my local store to exchange with and it was sold out online. On release week, this version cost a few dollars more than the standard release (and the difference is probably even greater now, if it is even available anymore). So, the only reason why anyone would be purchasing this is for the SteelBook case, since the content is the same as the standard release. As such, it is a shame and very disappointing that scratch and dent issues still occur on these SteelBooks when the customer has to pay a premium for it. Something needs to be done about this.

Finally, some explanation about key issues that I always had the animated version and some fixes. Disney manages to fix some of the issues that always bothered me about the animated version. The Prince is now an appropriate age to warrant such a punishment, there is an explanation as to why the entire village forgets the castle and its occupants, and there is a thoughtful reason as to why the enchanted servants stay with the Beast. The music is still just as good and the additional set pieces enhance the story not detract. An excellent film.

from start to finish, this film was a beautiful adaptation of the classic animation. I found myself enchanted by the performance of Emma Watson as Belle. All the other actors were awesome in their performances as well. My one year old daughter watched this with me, just the two if us (at home, and will then be memorable to me as) it is the first movie she watched that she was able to finish without falling asleep or crying cause she has to play instead. She enjoyed the songs and voices, and she did not even see the original. Truly impressive.

I love the fact that Disney has transition their screenplays from the cartoon animations to the live cast. Beauty and the Beast was an excellent film. Emma Watson and Dan Stevens did an excellent job with the characters Belle and the Beast. The other cast that played the other characters did a great job as well. I can watch this over and over again and not get bored. Loved it. I bought two copies. One for me and one for my special needs niece who loves the music and singing of the cast. Thanks Disney for keeping the fairy tales alive. :o)

There seems to be 2 reactions to this movie, either it's far superior to the animated version or absolute trash. No one I've talked to falls into the middle, except me lol. Emma Watson should have been perfect as Belle but a lot of times she seems either bored or not very good at interacting with cgi, surprising for someone who grew up doing it. Luckily The Beast, Maurice, and other (previously underutilized) characters get a ton of backstory and make you forget how rather boring it is to watch Belle. With the addition of some fantastic new songs, a magical book, and a tragic backstory all around a completely new beginning which erases plot holes from the original, i actually enjoyed this more. I also loved how much this felt like a musical on stage with very obvious sets and smaller budget designs for scenes. It will never replace the original but there's enough new stuff here to be worth adding to the collection. Cinderella is still a better live-action retelling for me though.

I love the Disney films and especially the recent ones which empower women. I have three daughters at home and love to see the so-called "traditional" roles put aside. The singing and music was very well done. Emma Watson does a great job... something I was a little skeptical at first that she could handle but it turned out very well. Great job by Stevens as The Beast. And the storyline was just a little different than the original animated version which broke new ground when it first appeared over 2 decades ago. Highly recommend!!
