Needed this specific cable to do an efficient transfer of data from one MacBook to another. Although this cable is short, the construction is thick, high quality, and it performs at the data transfer speeds advertised. I was able to transfer all 800GB of my user data from one MacBook to a new one in less than an hour directly linking them together with this cable. It also works well for connecting my MacBook with a single cable to a hub that controls multiple monitors and data connections. Attached is a picture of the transfer speed using the thunderbolt cable compared to wireless "Peer-to-Peer" using Migration Assistant. Note that this is specifically a high-speed data transfer cable, not a regular USB-C charger cable!

Great for transferring files, just make sure you absolutely need one. Like really specifically need one. Otherwise the whole 40 gbps does’t mean anything if you don’t have devices that can take advantage of it. That being said it’s a thick high quality cable.

One of the reasons that I upgraded my computer a couple of years ago was because I wanted to take advantage of the high speed connections that Thunderbolt 3 provides. My laptop is equipped with 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports that can accommodate data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps as long as it has a compatible cable. I’ve been very selective about the cables I use and have only found a few third-party options that I like. This one from Belkin is at the top of that list. The cable is sells in a standard branded box. On the front, you will see the details of the cable including it’s length (0.8m/2.6feet) and top potential data transfer speed (40Gbps). Some Thunderbolt 3 cables are only capable of transferring at a rate of 20Gpbs, but this particular one can achieve full Thunderbolt 3 speed if it’s connected to devices that allow it. The back of the box has a lot of terms and conditions outlined in fine print along with a table that shows the cable’s compatibility with other cable types (USB 2.0, USB 3.0 , Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort, Power). This cable will provide power delivery up to 100W, too. The only thing included on the inside of the box is the cable itself and a multilingual booklet that outlines safety information and FCC regulations. After unboxing the cable, I examined it for durability. While the cable is flexible, it is also quite thick. The cable does measure 0.8m (2.6ft) as described. In comparison to another third-party Thunderbolt 3 cable I had on my desk, the Belkin cable is a little heavier. The casing does seem to be premium quality and the ends are reinforced so they don’t fray after repeated use. One of the tests I always run when I am testing out cable speeds is Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. I happen to have an external Thunderbolt 3 hard drive that I could use to test the speed of the cable. One thing that’s important to remember with Thunderbolt 3 cables is that even though they can achieve speeds up to 40Gbps, they won’t have that chance if the device they are connected to is only capable of transferring data at 20Gbps. That is why I choose to use the Thunderbolt 3 hard drive for testing because I know it can transfer at higher rates of speed. The Disk Speed Test showed a write speed of 1852.9 MB/s and a read speed of 2363.2 MB/s. The other third party cable I had handy only displayed speeds of 1421.0 MB/s write and 2347.7 MB/s read. I’m thrilled with the results this cable has provided and am even more excited that it’s a brand of cable I trust to connect my devices. In my opinion, this cable has passed all tests with flying colors.

    Great USB-C cable

This Belkin cable is fantastic with Thunderbolt 3 by Belkin that can get you up to 40 Gbps data transfer. It is USB-C to USB-C connection, which now more devices are using this type of connection. This speed is great to have when moving information. It is also great to replace charging cables of laptops and mobile devices, and it charges fast. The cable connected to a device it does not come apart; it holds firm without loosening or wobbling. The cable is made us super thick rubber-like plastic, and it feels sturdy. The plastic molded strain relief cover at the connector end is long enough (about 1 inch (2.54 cm)) which make it easier to insert and remove the connector. I have a couple of Belkin products, and they are well constructed and don’t feel flimsy.

    Improved Cable

This is an improved version from previous Belkin thunderbolt cables that's rated for up to 100W power delivery, and includes other standard thunderbolt features like 40 Gbps throughput in Thunderbolt mode, USBC-C compatibility, 5K video. Matches the specs of the Apple cable and it's the same size 0.8 m / 2.6 Ft. The cable is somewhat thick, and flexible. Comes in black and has the thunderbolt sign etched on the connector. - Maximum power delivery available in a Thunderbolt Cable. - Black cable. - Competitively priced. Note that Belkin makes other thunderbolt cables. Some are longer, and some of them have lower power specs. This is a newer design.

In my opinion there are only two considerations with cables: 1- Does it work to spec with my devices? 2- Is is durable? The answer to both is YES with the Belkin TB3 Gen 2 Cable. I was able to charge tablets and laptops and data throughput met my expectations. In my photos you can see the cable and connection are more robust than a standard Apple cable. A good product from a reliable company.

I purchased this cable to give me a bit more length between my 2019 16” MacBook Pro and Razer Core X eGPU. So far, the cable has performed well. The eGPU delivers 100W of charging, which is necessary for the beefier battery in the 16” MBP, and this cable delivers that power reliably. I’m also happily driving two HD monitors from the MBP through the eGPU with this cable.

Products like these are tough to justify sometimes, because at the end of the day, it's not a computer, or television, or phone or audio system; it's just a cable. But no, it's not just a cable. It's a gateway to streamline the rest of your entertainment experience. Most cables that come with eGPUs are laughably short, something like a foot most of the time. This is horribly restrictive, and makes even basic setups that much more difficult if you don't intend on having the machine right next to you. This cable has been a blessing in disguise, allowing me to harness the power of the eGPU while sitting comfortably on my couch. I don't even hear the thing running most of the time. Yes it's costly, but considering it charges and gives the full 40 gbps, but at close to 6 times the length, it's a no-brainer. It's very nicely constructed, plugs in tightly and doesn't come out easily when pulled casually and even has a soft, leather type feel to it. If you're on the fence about it, just hop over and grab one. It never hurts to have the extra length when flexibility is needed.

Worked for DisplayPort Video on Dell Monitor/Lapto

I have a Dell 34inch video conferencing monitor along with a Dell Precision laptop. I was attempting to hook the monitor to the laptop with a standard USB-C cable; no video was being displayed but other USB functions worked. The monitor specs indicated that it used DisplayPort 1.4 over USB-C and therefore I purchased this cable because it explicitly mentioned support for DisplayPort. This cable allows all functions of the monitor to work, including video, so I was pleased. It's pretty short, and a bit pricey, but worked for my setup.
