It should be plugged into the wall directly. It charges good overtime but it's not a quick charging device.

Iphone Mini possibly to short to connect well.

I believe the problem is that the shorter sized phone sits to low to make a good connection and it was resolved by simply placing a plastic water bottle cap down to raise the height of the phone. None the less I shouldn't have to do such a thing and will be returning it. The watch charger worked flawlessly and if you have the larger sized phones it will likely work fine.
