Won't charge through thick cases

It would start charging, then stop. I have a z fold and the case has a card pocket on the back which is important to me, more important than wireless charging, so I guess its back to charging my phone the old-fashioned way! Of note, I gave the charger to a friend who's case is very minimal, and it charges his phone just fine.
