    Must-Have iPhone 7 Accessory

One of the biggest drawbacks to the iPhone 7 was the inability to charge and listen to a wired set of headphones at the same time. This accessory fills a void that I feared would take much longer to be produced. It works great, and I have no issues with it at all. The pictogram/instructions make it very easy to see that you shouldn't try to charge with two charging cables, and you can't listen to two different sets of headphones at the same time, but either lightning port will accept either a charger or headphones. I am very happy with this product.

After my hard switch to iPhone this device is much needed. Sometimes I would have to decide between charging my phone or listening to a video or snap on my phone especially while at work. And I would think to myself that something like this is Soooo needed. It's not too bulky and when I first used it I was soooooo happy I didn't have to make a choice between one or the other. I noticed it actually charged faster the only thing is all the wires can be a little annoying. But that is the price you pay now since there is no 3.5 mm jack. Halos a lot though

This is one of those products that I feel will have a very specific market. The average iPhone 7 owner will not have a need for this product all the time, but I do see it working for many people. Many people use their iPhones while they are charging. With the use of earphones, and couple that with the iPhone 7, this becomes a challenge. Specifically, you cannot charge and listen to music with the provided earphones. Charging: So as I mentioned, this allows you to charge and listen to music at the same time. So basically it is for the iPhone 7 models because of the lack of an earphone port. So it gives you two lightning ports from one, but with a catch. You can only charge and use lightning port plug in earphones. You cannot use this as a way to use two pairs of earphones. Things I don't like: I don't like the fact that you cannot use two pairs of earphones. Additionally, if you keep your iPhone charged all the time them there is no real need for this. Finally, if you have bluetooth earphones or headphones, you don't really need these. I have a pair of Bose earphones and a pair of Beats headphones and they are both wireless. So there is not need to use this when I am using those. Things I like: If you like the earphones that plug into lightning ports, and you watch a ton of videos or listen to music all the time, this is a good thing for you. Lets face it. Earphones and headphones are expensive and wireless ones are even more expensive. Therefore many people use the provided ones that work very well. They actually fit better than most earphones on the market, at least for me. Given that scenario, and if you use your iPhone a ton, this is something you should keep with you. In summary, using this product is dependent upon the type of user you are. I would recommend it for the heavy user for sure, which is really not me. Still, I would recommend the product as it is well made and I definitely see where it will work for many others.

Disclaimer - I received this product at no cost for a fair and unbiased review. The Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge Rockstar (I'll refer to it as Rockstar from here on out) is a product that shouldn't exist. Having said that, it's also a product that should have come out when Apple released the iPhone 5, iPad 4th gen, and iPad Mini. It does what it does very well. You plug a pair of Lightning-based headphones into one of the two ports on the Rockstar, your Lightning cable in the other port, and connect it to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running the current version of iOS (10.2 as of this writing). The iDevice will see the dongle as a pair of headphones that can also charge the device. I tested this with A9-based iPhones (6s, 6s Plus, and SE) and the A7-based iPad Air, all running 10.2 with a pair of Bose headphones that connect via Lightning. There was zero performance difference between having them connected with and without the dongle. My only disappointment with this cable is the fact that it's not really designed to be used on-the-go. You can leave it connected to your phone, but it feels like it'll be damaged if it's connected to your phone and in your pocket. Otherwise, I don't have any complaints about the cable. If I were to make a suggestion to Belkin for a redesign, I'd go with a "U"-shaped connector so this adapter rests on the back side of the phone, instead of hanging off of it, so people on the go can keep it handy. Please keep in mind that devices that aren't Lightning audio will not work with this dongle. That means no USB syncing, no camera connection kit functionality for SD cards, USB keyboards, and USB to MIDI adapters, and no digital AV or VGA adapter functionality. I didn't try a USB headset or USB audio adapter with the camera connection kit. This adapter is only for audio. All in all, it does what it needs to do. A little expensive for what it is, but it works very well.

Belkin Cures one of Apple's Problems

Like many of you I own the iPhone 7 which had the headphone jack made "obsolete" by Apple. This product serves to bring back, at least the ABILITY to plug in both power and headphones at the same time. The Belkin Lightning Audio + Charge Rockstar essentially serves as a splitter for your Lightning port. Plugging in in place of your cable, and giving you TWO lightning ports. This allows both music/headphone use and charging at the same time. Seems simple enough right? This product gets part of the way to solving the headphone problem, but not quite. You either HAVE to use it with lightning headphones, or you must use it with a lightning to 3.5mm audio adapter STILL to be able to plug in old school headphones. I assume Apple must have somehow disallowed that feature from being included with this product, but it seems like a no brainer. My other issue with this adapter, and it may be inherent in the idea of "splitting" the lightning plug, is that is it PICKY when it comes to chargers and cables. Some of my aftermarket cables didn't work with this, as well as other AC-USB power adapters. It works fine plugged into a 2.1a apple charger, but my computer ports that run at 2.1a+ wouldn't charge it at all. Overall this thing does what it's purported to do, and my complaints about how it should work are somewhat esoteric in the face of what apple will allow Belkin to build. This adapter works and that's what's needed for iPhone 7 owners.

With the iPhone 7 and 7+'s really big battery compared to previous generations, I find that I can go almost a full day on 1 charge now, and so I don't really have the need to listen to music with the included headphones while charging at the same time. However, it's still a great convenience to be able to charge and use the earphones at the same time. I've gotten used to using bluetooth headsets to deal with the issue, but it's nice being able to use the included earphones while charging at the same time.

A must need accessory for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

This is almost a requirement for my new iPhone 7 Plus. In the car, we have no bluetooth and have to use an aux cable via the adapter cable included in the iPhone's box, taking up the lightning adapter. I needed the ability to charge my phone as well. This adapter fits the bill and does exactly what they say it does. I'm able to charge my phone and utilized the remaining lightning port for the audio adapter. It's a little pricy at $39.95, but overall it's a must need.

Pros: - Able to charge phone and listen to music at the same time - Easy to unbox and use - Charges phone at normal charging rate - Case compatible - Compatible with Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter - White color matches color of official Apple cables - Genuine Apple MiFi certification (Made for iPhone) Cons: - Size is a bit inconvenient, works fine when using it on a desk or table, or in a car or bed but can be awkward to use when confined to a smaller area like in your jacket or pants pocket, or in a small purse. - Cable on adapter is stiff and adapter brick is slightly larger than what would be ideal - Cannot transfer data while using adapter - Does not work as a splitter for two headphone adapters or two power adapters - Will still need to purchase a Apple Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter to use normal headphones and earbuds - $40 is on the pricier end, in my opinion, for a product that acts a Lightning charger and headphones splitter. I do not recommend if you are looking for a mobile/compact solution or for use with a 3.5mm headphone/earbuds as you will still need a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. I recommend if you need a simple solution to charge your phone and listen to audio with headphones/earbuds that use the Lightning jack.

This is a simple device, not a whole lot to say about it. I just got an iPhone 7 Plus and had a few chances to use it. It works flawlessly allowing me to charge my phone while listening to music or podcasts. Fortunately there is not a lot that can go wrong with this device, it either works or it does not. In this case, it works just as it should, and I would heartily recommend it for those who have the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus and want to use the ear buds while charging.

Just what us iGuys needed. Quick charge and use of audio at the same time is priceless. Huge when using my phone as my GPS. I gave it only 4 stars due to the size. It is a bit bulky. They should have put the ports on top of one another instead of side by side. It does what it is supposed to do and anyone with an iPhone 7 will appreciate having this.

Charging and still be able to listen to music for my iPhone 7 plus is a must since they took away the headphone jack. It's nice to have this accessory for on the go just in case. Small so it doesn't feel like your carrying a lot. Keep in your car, pocket or purse and it won't feel bulky. If you have a 7 or 7 plus this is a good buy.

I wasn't so sure I would have a need for this item since I haven't had a problem with my battery life...until I went on a long road trip and was binge watching Netflix. Came in handy when I wanted to continue watching shows while my phone charged. It's a great option for those that opt to use the stock earbuds (iPhone 7/7 Plus).

Bought this when I was expecting to use regular headphones with my iPhone 7 since there are often times that I am at my desk and have my phone charging and listen to music. Now that I received my EarPods, that is no longer such an issue. It still is for my wife though so she will be using this from now on. It does exactly what it says it would and that is allow you to charge your phone while also listening to music through the Lightning port on your iPhone. The one thing it WILL NOT let you do is plug it into a computer to sync while listening to the music. It will charge but the phone will not show up in iTunes if you have it plugged in through the Rockstar. Belkin does not make the claim that it would do so and it is not really a big deal, but while playing around with it I noticed that it did not come up in iTunes and therefore I could not do a computer sync. Not a big deal, unplug the Rockstar for two minutes, do the sync and plug it back in. All-in-all Belkin made an easy to use solution to a problem many people will have with the new iPhones. If you too have this problem, go out a get the Rockstar.

Overheats and doesn't charge just after 3 months

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this splitter about 4 months ago and has already started malfunctioning. At first I thought it was my charging cord and so I bought a new one and same thing happens. This adapter overheats up crazy fast and will charge very slowly or not at all. I like to use it white I work when my phone starts to get low. As I listen to music and , podcast and movies as I work. But eventually my battery gets low but I don't want to stop listening as it keeps my momentum going. I'm afraid this adapter will damage my phone and battery which are very expensive. I prefer using m earbuds over the blue tooth as you have keep recharging them which in very inconvenient. Now I have resolved myself to using my blue tooth earbuds while I charge my phone. I bought this adapter so I wouldn't end up having to do this. I had another adapter a few months ago that I have had for a couple of years. It had became tattered with the wires exposed but it worked. Though I accidently left it at work and I would guess someone threw it away as it looked like it was time to retire it. I wish I still had that one as it worked even though it was unsightly.

Serves a Purpose, with Slight Drawback

This device is a solid product put out by Belkin to bridge the gap between lightning audio and charging your phone at the same time. Of course, the cable does just that, which is what it's supposed to, but does fall short in other areas, namely not featuring a headphone jack and not supporting playback from the external speakers when the cable is plugged in. Deal breakers? No, of course not, and the headphone purpose isn't what the cable is out to do. You can charge and play music through lightning audio as advertised. I haven't had any issues with the cable going out in such a short time, like other reviewers have mentioned, but at some point cables do need to be replaced and such. I also believe this is priced about $10 too high, in my opinion. All in all will do what's advertised, but little else.
