The sound quality of your Rockstar should be the same as directly plugged into your iPhone's lightning connector. To isolate, try another headphone and observe if you will get the same feedback or noise in the background. Been times when I was thinking no one is speaking but only figure that out when I turn on the speakers. Wish this was consistent

If you don't want to use wireless airpods, this is THE device to get so you can charge and listen to music/podcasts simultaneously.
