It's small enough and light enough to carry it around in your laptop bag all of the time, to have it available whenever you needed it. (Of course, you will also need the Ethernet cable itself.)

Handy device for USB-C to Ethernet connection

If you have a need to hook up directly to Ethernet through cable, like setting up a router for the first time, this is the device you will need. It plugs into your mini USB-C port. The LED status lights are handy for troubleshooting. Importantly, there is a USB-C charging port next to the Ethernet port so that you can simultaneously run Ethernet and charge your PC. This is very handy for a home office setup in which you prefer a secure Ethernet connection instead of going WiFi.

I use it to adapt my ethernet into a usc c for my Asus laptop. Once a week or so my laptop will say it can't connect to the internet. I only need to unplug it and plug it back into my laptop and it works fine.

Connected the adapter to my usb-c port and then plugged my cat-5 cable into the adapter- works great, no additional software needed.

Perfect for Chromecast with Google TV

Keep in mind that the USB C port on it is usb 2.0 so you won't be able to hit the full 1gbit, but 480mbit is plenty to steam 4k blu rays. You will also need a higher wattage USB C PD power supply to power both this and the Chromecast (at least 18w)
