The USB-A did not fit the cable connection properly. I chose this Belkin one, paid more for the brand. It works so far with USB-A portable CD/DVD drive and USB-A flash drive. I haven't tried it yet with all of my flash drives, so some might not connect depending on the length of the connection. Sometimes better to pay a little more for a brand product.

It can also be used to add an external hard drive to a computer with a USB Type-C port. I would recommend.
