The charger will work with phone case as long as it’s not the more than 3mm thick. And, a rubber will definitely hinder the communication between the charging coils and will cause disconnection. Slow Charge Stopped Working

Magnet not strong enough

If I pick up my phone while on the charger it falls off. If I just connect it and lay it down it works perfectly. My other charger stays connected just fine.

The charging pad is expected to hold Qi-compatible devices. Make sure that no phone cases used thicker than 3mm for isolation.
