I would expect the darkest setting to blacken the exterior of the bread. It chars it thru and thru. The next darkest setting also has the bread smoking. Keep an eye on your toast while in this machine.

Is a good toaster for most items. Is hard to regulate heat sometimes. Cook most things on just 1 or 2. Does cook fast also.

I really do like this toaster. The heat range is pretty large between very toasty and light.

This is a beautiful toaster! and it works great. At first it was hard to figure out the setting since my old toaster was really bad. This is definitely a more powerful toaster. The setting for 2 or 3 will be right setting to toast most everything.
