We used Krusteaz pancake batter which also gives directions to make waffle batter. Waffles came out light and fluffy. Not crusty and hard which we don't like. Followed the manufacturer instructions and were simply impressed! Naturally until we use it a bit more; batter did ooze out and run down the sides. Found it to be a bit hard to clean batter from hinged side.
