It's clearly mild steel with a nickel/chrome finish, not the fine brushed stainless steel appearance from the photo.

The only glitch is that we have to play with the lever to get it to stay down when we start a toast cycle. Other units may not have this problem; I can only review the one I got.

Great little toaster

I prefer not having the electronic dials and whatnot since they have a tendency to overheat with toasters, but this one is more analog and its aesthetic is pleasing. It toasts things well and since I have gluten intolerance, the Gluten Free button is great for ensuring that my bread isn't scorched.

It's a Toaster

It goes from moderately toasted to over-toasted in a flash. Once you get used to what setting does what to which type of bread, this is an easy unit to use and clean.
