There is a control to allow for change in level of browning and the timer that goes off makes it fool-proof. THe unit is rather large, however, it is well worth the storage if you want quality waffles.

It is easy to use and clean. The plates are not removable, but it has been easy to access and clean the iron after use. Once hot, it makes 8 big belgian-style waffles in about 20 minutes! We freeze them and then reheat them by putting the quarter-rounds into our wide-slot toaster. I wish I had this when my kids were small.....
