I had always owned TVs so I was very excited to give a projector a shot. After using the BenQ projector I have been completely sold on the idea of replacing my TV in my home theater setup. The main hardware feels well-built and is styled very minimally. On the back are 2 HDMI, 1 VGA and 1 component for video input, 1 RS232 for serial control, as well as audio in and out via 3.5mm jack. The projector comes with a remote which has all the same controls which are on the body of the project along with some handy shortcuts buttons to change the pictures mode and settings, convenient for making changes to the picture from the couch while you’re viewing. I setup the projector approximately 12 feet from the wall to produce the 110” image. The 1080p resolution in my opinion is sufficient for movies. The tv shows I watched looked sharp splashed up against my living room wall surface. According to BenQ they paid special attention to the color recreation and ability of the lamp to age and not dim significantly overtime or produce other artifacts. While I can’t test the long term aspects I can say that the images this projector produces are fantastic with colors that pop. The blacks are great too thanks to the LED DLP technology. The brightness of the projector is more than enough for viewing with the lights on though, really dark scenes will become a little washed out. Additionally, there is an option for switching to 3D viewing, but I didn’t have glasses to test this. The lamp is rated at 3000 hours which seems on the low side, but we’ll see how it performs! The projector comes with built-in 10W speakers which is okay, but definitely won’t replace a dedicated system or soundbar. Even though it’s an HD capable projector, the cable they include is a VGA. While this is probably a good choice for a project designed for PC use, BenQ advertises this as a Home Theater project so it would have been nice to see an HDMI cable instead. Overall, for the picture quality and price if your looking into making a small investment to add a projector to your home theater setup I believe the BenQ HT1070A is a great choice.

I have owned two projectors in the past and this BenQ HT1070A is by far the best in its class (entry-level home theater) by delivering excellent picture quality with a superior color performance at a very reasonable price. My first impression of the product was that the BenQ projector would be slightly better than my older projector but I was wrong; the exceptional lifelike color and sharp detail every image comes to life amazed me. I initially did not set it up in my entertainment room. I had special guests and I had to quickly setup projector it in my living room which had a bigger wall to project. They were all impressed with the image quality of my new projector. I did not use a screen at that time but the BenQ still gave far better image quality than my older projector. After that, projected in at a regular screen, it gives even better picture quality. The BenQ can project up to 25’ size screen and still give a good image. The best screen size is 100 inch for a permanently fixed setup. For smaller rooms, you can also make the 100” screen viewing in only 9.2 feet. Even though it is best to use the projector with a dark room without ambient light to bring brilliant colors to elevate your home cinema experience, this projector can be used with some room ambient light. The setup was very easy with very little adjustment required. This is great for quick setup when projecting at a different site other than its permanent cinema room. It has three quick mode setting for sports, TV and movie. My favorite mode to use this projector is the sport mode for most of the time. In conclusion, what I like about the BenQ HT 1070A is the excellent cinema/theater quality for home viewing at a very reasonable price. It gives brilliant, precise, and authentic color to project any type of image. It is a full HD resolution with spectacular clarity with depth and range. I also like the fact that if it is set up at a different site to project, it is basically a hassle-free setup with minimal adjustment. This is convenient and flexible to have in a projector. Thanks to this new projector, my family loves our updated home cinema entertainment to watch movies, sports, and tv on a larger screen.

Design: Upon opening the box, I noticed that this BenQ projector has a compact and lightweight design, which makes it portable and unobtrusive. It is almost entirely white with some gray/silver accent coloring, and the material feels like a durable plastic. For now, I have it resting on a small nightstand in our basement and it looks great. To provide ventilation, each side of the projector has slated openings. It can get warm after extended use, but I feel that it does a decent job regulating its internal temperature, so I do not foresee it ever overheating. The functional buttons on the top of the projector are rubberized, easy to press and self-explanatory. There are several different input options, but I especially like that there are dual HDMI inputs. This allows me to have two devices plugged in at once without needing to swap the HDMI cord each time I want to use the other device. Overall, BenQ did a fantastic job at designing this projector for portability, functionality, and durability. Setup: Thanks to the simple setup, it only took a few minutes to get the projector up and running. Just plug in the power cord and your desired device, then complete the setup wizard once the projector is powered on. Adjusting the height and lens focus was also easy. You can screw or unscrew the feet on each side of the projector to set it to the exact height desired and ensure that the projected screen is level. Additionally, you can rotate the lens adjustment to find the perfect image focus. These features allow you to set up the projector in a variety of locations without compromising image quality. The projector does have a small internal speaker, but you will want to set up another form of audio for the best experience. Image Quality: I was honestly blown away when I started watching a movie on this BenQ projector. The image is bright, clear and colorful. I am a first-time projector owner, and I will admit that I had some reservations about what the image quality would be like on such a large projected screen, but those reservations instantly disappeared. This BenQ projector delivers a true 1080p image with an exceptional range of colors and deep blacks. I am confident that you will be impressed, just as I was. Other Features: I feel that my review would not be complete without mentioning the DLP technology, which is the same technology used in most cinema projectors. DLP technology is used for a reason, and once you own this DLP projector, you will see why. Another feature I would like to highlight is the ability to choose different image modes. There are three modes: Sport, Vivid TV, and Cinema. Each mode creates noticeable differences in the projected image that enhance the quality of the content you are watching. I find it beneficial to switch the mode based on what I am watching, and this is easy to do this in the projector’s menu. Another feature I appreciate is the SmartEco Technology, which saves energy and extends the life of the projector. I expect our family to be using this projector quite frequently, so I am happy that it was designed to last. Verdict: For the technology and performance that you get with this BenQ projector, I do not know that there is a better value on the market. Whether you are watching TV shows, sports, movies, or playing video games, the image quality is exceptional. Not only does it perform well, but it also is designed for ease of use and versatility. I think this is a fantastic entry-level projector that is perfect for families or individuals looking to entertain. All in all, BenQ has made me a very pleased first-time projector owner.

When I took this projector out of the box I thought it was too lightweight to be any good. But after using for the first time I was very impressed. Initial setup was so easy and straightforward as are most projectors. There is a quick 4 screen setup menu when you first power it on and you are good to go. I hooked up an amazon firestick to it and my Bose speaker to the audio out and I was watching cartoons with my daughters in a matter of minutes. Very impressed with the big bright and brilliant display. The girls were blown away. All that was missing was the popcorn (we ran out). We had to stop watching only for dinner. This has now become our favorite in house activity, especially since winter is here. Overall I am very pleased with the projector and it has quickly become my family's favorite piece of tech.

Technology company BenQ is well-known for their high-quality monitors and they have recently risen to popularity among gamers and technology-enthusiasts. I had the opportunity to test a 27-inch QHD monitor out from BenQ earlier this year and it didn’t disappoint. When I came across this projector from BenQ, I decided to give it a try. This model of projector is an upgrade for the most popular BenQ projector — the HT1070. This newer model has a contrast ratio of 15,000:1 and a resolution of 1080p. There are three picture modes — sports, movies, and normal TV. Now, I didn’t have previous experience with the older model, but from what I’ve seen, BenQ didn’t waste time with a successful formula and they just made minor improvements. It’s designed to be consumer-grade and is more budget-friendly than other high-quality projectors (retailing for $649). BenQ provides software with the project on disc and it’s also available to download from their website. It’s for Windows machines only, but Mac users need not despair. The unit is essentially plug-n-play. You can connect to it as you would any output monitor and use your computer normally. The BenQ 1070A ships with a standard power cable, a VGA cable, remote control (with batteries), and a quick start guide. It’s very lightweight (just under 6 pounds) and it’s very easy to get started with. When I took it out of the box, I got it set up in our home office because we have our walls painted white. Unfortunately, we did have some furniture in the way when I tested this device out, but the quality of the picture on the wall was not affected. When I first started it up, the lens was a bit out of alignment, but a quick dial on the focus knob straightened that out. To connect my 2016 MacBook Pro, which only has USB-C ports, I utilized a Multi-port hub and then connected an HDMI cable to both the projector and the hub. The projector has an automatic detection feature and it sensed my computer’s information through the HDMI port and fed it to the projection on the wall. I watched a couple of YouTube videos and some video clips from Finding Dory on Netflix to test out the quality of the projection. I was shocked at how good the stream was. It was honestly better than our TV looks sometimes. I was able to read text that was projected on the wall and the colors from Finding Dory were as vibrant as they should be. I did not attempt to set up audio through the projector and instead opted to play audio using my computer’s speakers. Once I decide on a more permanent installation of the projector, I will likely run some audio cables to a set of speakers. Overall, this is an awesome projector. I’ve used quite a few styles of projector in the past few years and I’ve found that this one from BenQ is way beyond any others I’ve used. The only feature I wish it has was a wireless connection. I also found that at least one word was misspelled in the user interface. When you turn off the projector, a dialog box pops up and states “turnning off - please wait”. This issue could easily be dealt with through a firmware update of the device.

    Great 1080p Projector

I love my BenQ projector. I can now watch TV, movies and other things and the images are huge and clear. This model is a mid level projector but it does add some features that you only see other projectors that cost $1000. They say it is best to use this projector in a dark environment and they are correct. Images and viewing was good in my living room, but when I took the projector downstairs in my basement and watched a 1080p movie it was awesome. At a distance of nine feet you can get a 100 inch projection. I watched Spiderman Homecoming on it and was blown away by the picture and the size of the actors. I truly felt like I was at the movie theater. Some highlights on the spec are: it projects in full 180p full HD resolution. Most tv programs are 720 and most movies are 720 or 1080 with a handful at 4K. By the time this projector needs to be updated 4K will probably be the norm, but for now this projector's 1080p viewing is fine. The contrast ratio is 15,000:1 which really helps in dark scenes and prevents all of the blacks mushing into one. You ca see details in shadows and dark scenes much better. There are three modes, Sport, Vivid TV and Cinema. I preferred Cinema mode, colors and darkness level seemed the best here. Your connection ports are 2 HDMI ports, USB type mini P, IR receiver, computer in (15 pin) and RCA. You will be able to connect a lot of different devices to this projector. There are 2 W audiospeakers too and if that is not loud enough there are audio ports to connect speakers too. I plan on adding some speakers to make it a little louder. The only con I have is that there are no USB port to connect a fire stick or ROKU stick. So if you are looking to increase the viewing size for when watching TV shows or movies or playing video games, this projector is a great way to achieve that and by setting the size screen you want all with the twist of a knob. This particular BenQ projector, for being an entry-level really performed well with delivering sharp, bright and clean looking colors, clarity and images. It's very easy to set-up right out of the box and there isn't much you really need to do. I would highly recommend it.

BenQ claims to have the following, Best in class picture quality, full 1080p DLP using a 6 segment color wheel that covers 96% Rec 709 (RGBRGB to reduce a rainbow effect on the screen) Picture modes including 3d compatibility, and Dual HDMI inputs among others. I will have to agree the claims 100% , The quality of the picture is amazing! I side stepped the instructions (as most do) to see how hard the set up would be. I was thoroughly impressed and was up and running in less than 5 minutes. I powered it up with my Blue Ray player in the first HDMI input and my sound system in the other. The first screen you will notice is the set up. I took the default and was blown away when the movie started. The Picture was BRIGHT! (has 3 modes to select from) clear and crisp! (up to 2200ANSI Lumens) I noticed slight key stoning on the image, But thanks to BenQs keystone adjustment. This was fixed in seconds. I was amazed at the quality of the picture and this was just pointed at my wall. It increased when I used it in conjunction with my pull-down projector screen. So on to the directions… I wanted a 100-inch screen so as per the directions, I set the unit up 9 feet way from my screen, adjusted the keystone and used the adjustable 3 feet under the projector to level the picture. Once again, I could'nt believe what I was seeing, My wife made the comment we didn’t need an additional tv for our living room in the basement, this was more than fitting!! I agreed and added that this is portable and can be used in any room or even outside for the kids to enjoy a movie under the stars! The rear of the HT1070A has a USB mini-B, RS232, PC (D-sub), Composite Video in (RCA), 2 HDMI, Audio in/out. (The built-in speaker is not very impressive but wasn’t really designed to play great sound anyway.) The Bulb life depends on your setting (normal 4500 hours, Eco 6000 hours, and smart eco 10000 hours) The weight of the unit is a light 5.5 lbs., which makes it great for mounting near the ceiling. The on-unit buttons are clearly marked and user friendly to be able to accomplish everything that the included remote can do. The resolution is up to 1920 X 1080, 15000:1 contrast and can project from 30 inches to nearly 300. I have tested a 30-inch screen to over 150 so far and it doesn’t disappoint, weather you are pointing it at a wall, sheet or for best results use a projector screen. The 5 modes they offer (Bright, Vivid, Cinema, Game, User) The bright mode seemed to show a lot of blue and greens, not really for movie viewing, the vivid had sharp, crisp, concise colors, great for movies, the cinema seemed to less sharp but great still, the game was just a bit darker than cinema, and the user is for you to preset how you want it. Gaming was awesome, I tried it with Battlefield and Forza on the X box, and was blown away again. I am now mounting this using a ceiling mount and running my sound, Blue ray and Xbox HDMI to it. As far as I see it, there is no reason for a TV in this viewing room, this is your all in one go to box!! In closing I would say that, I am impressed at this low-cost Home entertainment projection system. I have been showing it off to friends and family and highly recommend this model. They were all very impressed.

Everyone would love a Home Theatre where everyone can sit back and watch a 100 inch screen, right? How about a 5 lb. projector that can do it for you? More affordable than ever, matched with the theatre-quality projection you always wanted. Take it outdoors during the nice weather at night and watch a movie against your house or other suitable backdrop! Great for parties and special occasions. The projector illuminates perfect color. The speakers on the projector are good, but a whole-room stereo system for your Home Theatre is easily via: • Composite Video, RCA • HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface for digital video and digital audio) • Multi-HDMI (Multiple HDMI connectors) • USB • RS-232 (Serial) WHAT DO I LIKE ABOUT THIS PROJECTOR: • Versatility. I can use it for business applications during meetings with others. I can also use it as part of a home theatre experience OR simply as an additional television! I can have it playing in the background while I’m standing in front of it during the use of exhibition booths. It makes for a great business display without having to drag a television with you. • Portability. Inside, outside, the office or on vacation. 5 lbs. That’s it. • More Possibilities. I can have it hung from the ceiling for fixed use (specific braces needed and are available for this specific model). I can also buy a “blow up” screen for outdoor use. Or design a sound system. Multiple HMDIs available. • Throw Cable away! Imagine setting up HULU or Netflix and stream it via WIFI to the unit. How cool is that????? Yes, you will be able to do that with your multi-HDMI ports. Also a USB port is available, but you must have a USB to USB connection vs. USB to USB Hub. There are no USB or HDMI wires in the box, so be ready to purchase those separately. • Comes with a remote control.

This way i could play my direct tv now as well as cast videos from you tube. I was fairly impressed with the quality of the picture. it was not a dark room when i tested it but the picture came out pretty good and sharp. As with any projector you need to adjust the legs to make sure that the picture is aligned well. this can be done using the feet of the project. The picture was 1080p and had good hue, color and clarity Based on their website, it is ranked ar around 2000 hours of operation which typically trasnlate into 3 years roughly assuming you use the projector everyday for 3 years After this you will need to spend arounf 120-150$ to replace the lamp to make sure it delivers good quality Overall, i like this device and comees close to replacing your tv as long as you have a nice fkat wakll and space to put thie in.

This unit checks all the boxes for a reasonably priced home theater projector. Setup is a breeze, with an automated menu that takes you through positioning and adjustments, such as keystone setting. The colors are bright and images are crisp, with very acceptable black levels. There is no hint of the DLP rainbow effect, which may be attributable to the high-speed color wheel. While the images are bright, you probably don't want to use it in a lit room. I did not try the built in speakers, as I used my home theater sound system with it. The unit is whisper quiet, so it won't interfere with your viewing enjoyment. Overall, it's a fantastic unit at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend it.

This is a great projector which has replaced the TV in my living room. I have been using this with a screen as my primary "TV" now. It is very easy to setup out of the box. I would recommend getting a wifi adapter with it to make even more effective, although that is completely optional. The picture quality is great with great contrast and deep colors. The 10W built in internal speaker is also good enough for day to day use and you can use the audio out to connect to external speakers if you want to have cinema experience as well. Overall a really good projector at a decent price.

Amazing DLP Home Theater Projector for the price!

This BenQ projector is an amazing value! Definitely competitive with home theater projectors costing 2-3X what it does offered just months ago. DLP technology is coming a long way and prices are falling - But this is the first projector I've used in my home that could replace a basic LED TV for the same spend! In my basement setup, the projector shines bright (2200lm to be exact - A little less in eco mode, but still as brilliant as my older projector's full-bright mode!)... Offers 3-D capabilities also (I didn't know about this one until I started playing with the options and reading about it... Only requires basic polarized glasses - Kept a few pair from my last 3d theater trip and they worked great!) This thing is also TINY compared to most home theater projectors - Its lighter, and mounts much more easily as a result. It offers 2 HDMI inputs which is standard for this category... Most people use an HDMI splitter to the source cabinet then multiple items can share the primary input port. Even without this, I was able to easily hook up my AppleTV and Xbox to the device for native switching. Games looked great on the display and I didn't notice any lag that seemed different from my TVs. Motion was smooth and clear for a front-projector, and color was AMAZING compared to my experience with this class. Good zoom, I'm using it at about 80-ish inches on my basement wall. There was room to grow this in other settings, but I'm only ~7ft back with the mount, and I have installed constraints by way of shelving and cabinetry around the screen area. All in all this is a great unit for the sub-1K class. Great brightness, color, and image controls. Would love to see more HDMI inputs, and a tilt function to the lens, but these are likely upmarket from this range of price. BenQ is really up-and-coming in this segment, and 3D was a nice surprise!

My 8-year old projector was struck by lightning, so it was time to buy a new one. I bought this one because the reviews were great and the price point was great. I also decided to go with DLP instead of LCD because I read that the picture was better. When I hooked up this HT1070A projector, I was blown away! The picture looks awesome, and the fan is super-quiet. The whole family watched a streaming NBA game on our 110-inch screen last night, and it was like we were at the game. After that, I connected my son's Xbox to the HT1070A, and he's in heaven! Highly recommend!

As TV's are getting bigger and bigger (and with seemingly shorter lives, IMO), i decided to "upgrade" to a projector instead of getting (yet another) "latest and greatest" television set. My needs are simple: Be able to connect to my A/V equipment (Cable/DVD/Blu-Ray/Amplifier/etc). Maintain quality I've become accustomed to. And as a third point - be reliable and have solid construction. This lead me to the BenQ HT1070A! Some have called this unit "the imax for the bedroom", and while that is certainly accurate in my experience, you must keep in mind that with virtually ANY projector, the room has to be darkened to some extent. To my delight, however, my existing shades and blackout curtains work (I work nightshift, so ;) - I knew it would eventually pay off.. Hahah). For now, I have the image projected on our bedroom wall. The unit itself is sitting on the other end of the room on a bookcase. With such a short distance between the screen and the unit itself, the unit (flawlessly, I must add) projects a crystal clear 100" image on the wall (though, it can be made as big as 180"!). The projector offers a feature which lets you tweak the skew of the projected image in case it isn't straight on. This fixes the problem that many other projectors have in which your projected image isn't perfectly squared (for lack of a better term). I was skeptical at first that a sub $1k projector could have such quality. But, my skepticism was (very) short lived. Watching DVD's/Blu-Rays feels like you are actually at the movie theater. To say I love this would be the understatement of the century! The unit itself has 2 HDMI inputs. One I am using for the Blu-Ray/DVD, the second, for my HDMI out from our HD cable box. I haven't had time (yet) to connect to our audio system, but, another shocker, is that the on-board audio is very decent! So this is good news for those that don't have elaborate audio systems. It's definitely "passable'. The projector has many different settings for picture quality, so you a free to tweak them to your heart's content (if that's your thing). However, I found that many of the "out of the box" settings were perfectly fine. The only thing you may need to manually tweak (actually, I'm 100% sure you will) are the physical focus and zoom knobs on the unit itself. This is rather straight forward, and any non-techie person could probably pull it off. If you are building a special media-room; even better! This projector, like most would probably benefit from a ceiling mount (though, again it's perfectly fine just sitting on a book-case), as well as having it be window-less or in a minimal light environment. With that said, if you just close your curtains/drapes/shutters/etc - that should provide satisfactory light reduction, IMO. To sum it up - if you are in the market for an HD projector that won't break the bank - get this one! it has features that were, until this model, unheard of in a sub $1k unit. I for one, am extremely pleased with this projector!

This is a very capable entry level projector. It offers a bright high resolution (1080p) image on the cheap. While there's no 3d, advanced keystone features, or 24p it still offers a solid image at a good starting price. I would recommend this for anyone looking to dip their toe in the home theater waters. Untested: but they claim the bulb last 4k+ hrs...this is a huge plus!! Bulbs can be an unplanned expense in the HT world. Lastly, for those who keep knocking the projector on it's sound quality need to reevaluate their expectations. No tiny speaker in a project is going to be worth a darn.

The BenQ - HT1070A 1080p DLP Projector provides a pleasing home movie theater experience it provides up to 2200 lumens (depending on energy settings) to deliver up to a 15,000:1 contrast ratio even in moderately bright rooms when used with a good reflective screen, and projects a 1920 x 1080 HD image to capture and display every detail in the majority of today's video. This BenQ projector has dual HDMI ports, so you can connect multiple HD devices. The setup was simple and fast. The on-screen menus are well thought out. The noise level is very acceptable for relatively small spaces. The wide-angle lens is great for 100" wide display. The projector itself is reasonably small and light weight.

Really like the BenQ - HT1070A 1080p DLP Projector. The set-up was easy and picture quality is great. We will use it for our in-home theater and for outdoor use in the summertime for movie night. It easily hooks up to the Blu Ray player and our sound bar. The picture looked really nice on our screen. So far, so good!

The video quality is really good. Audi quality is very bad but I guess nobody would want to use projector's inbuilt speaker anyways. Noise and heat are comparable with others in this range or even better ones.
