    Nice little MagSafe Charger

I like this little MagSafe charger. It has enough magnetic strength that my phone doesn't bounce around and I don't have to worry about it falling off the charger when I hit a bump or something. I also like the fact that it has an extra USB port on the back of the 12v plug so my wife (or someone else) can charge their phone at the same time. Additionally, the charger provides enough power that I can even increase my battery's charge percentage while using a map app/GPS to navigate. With some of my older chargers, they would only maintain my existing battery level while navigating and wouldn't add to the charge of the phone. The only things I really don't like about this, hence the 4 stars and not 5, is that it was frustratingly difficult to clip the charger into my car's air vents. (However that difficulty is also the reason that the phone, and charger doesn't fall off while driving.) Additionally, wire management is frustrating and the cable that connects to the back of the charger is difficult to squeeze in-between my dash and radio like some older chargers I had. Overall, I would recommend this as its good for the price.

I was more than a little excited to get to try this magnetic car charger out! I’ve owned previous car chargers in the past and the experience was very lackluster. You had to install weird plates in between your phone and the case. They didn’t support the weight of the phone so the phone would be falling all over the place while you drive, so eventually I just went on sans phone charger and went back to the old school charging cable. Fast forward to getting this bad boy in and WOW - how far we’ve come. Cars are interesting spaces because all though engines and technology evolve, the car interior still remains a space that is mostly the same (think about that tight space between your seat and the middle console where everything falls - no one wants to address that? No one?). My car does come with a small space on the side of the shifter where you can lay a phone. It barely accommodates my iPhone 13, but it’s at an angle where it’s leaning and mostly the phone is outside “slot” than it is inside. Because I do have a heavier foot my phone ends up falling out on turns and then it’s taking off across the passenger seat and into the dark enclaves that are the spaces between my seat and middle console and seat and door. After installing this mount, the first thing that struck me is the grip. It actually grips onto the vent in a way where it doesn’t pull the vent downward like previous experiences with car mounts. Initially I mounted the phone towards the right-hand side of the of the middle vent (closest to me as a driver), but eventually I’d move it over left because if you use CarPlay the height of the phone blocks the screen that I would be predominantly using (the car interface screen). Other than that, I loved the height, it was just off to the left side of the car’s built-in screen but still cleared the steering wheel so I didn’t feel like I was going to bump it or knock it off it’s holder. For an iPhone 14 Pro series, with the new always on display, I could see this being an optimal placement as you can see more information on your lock screen than what your car’s built-in display may show. The magnet in this charger is phenomenal. I took some railroad tracks pretty hard to try to make it shift or fall and it clung into place, un-phased by my efforts. It’s also nice that in addition to a super strong magnet, it was charging my phone up. So after running all my errands, my phone was in the 90’s charge percentage versus less than 50 when I started. I will call out that I DO appreciate Best Buy’s honesty in marketing this. A lot of third party manufacturer’s pull this sly marketing trick where they market these wireless chargers as fast chargers and they can get away with it because on Android they are. Because this car charger is strictly for iPhones and it’s third party, it’s limited to 7.5w of charging power and I appreciate Best Buy not playing word twister to try to market it as anything other than what it is — which is faster than those old bricks that came with say an iPhone 4-X/XR/XS but about 1/3 the speed of the new USB-C wall plugs you can use with the newer iPhones. But if you’re going to be driving around and it’s sitting there charging, this works out to be a reasonable amount of power and it’s also safer for the overall health and longevity of your phone’s battery. One thing that surprised me about this charger is it actually eliminated me getting temperature (heat) warnings on my iPhone. I live in the south where on a “good day” it’s in the high 80’s, low 90’s so one of the issues I frequently run into laying my phone in the slot next to my shifter is the sunlight is beaming in on it from the passenger and front windshield and often times I’ll be listening to music and it will just shut off and it’s so commonplace now that I already know what happened — sure enough when I flip the phone over it says it needs to cool down. The angle this sits at and because it’s below the dashboard and somewhat almost behind the steering wheel, it creates a nice little shaded enclave where it dodges direct sunlight and bonus, when I’m driving with the AC on, it may also be contributing to keeping the phone cool since it’s directly connected to the vent. I tried to find a con - I was honestly more impressed with this than I thought I would be - and the only con I could think of are these: (1) there’s no CarPlay support. Because this plugs into a cigarette port to provide wireless charging versus say your car’s USB-A or USB-C port, you end up running extra cabling because if you want to take advantage of CarPlay, it means you’ll need to run a separate USB cable. While the charger DOES give you an extra USB-A cable back, this port can’t be used to interface with CarPlay since it’s going thru the cigarette port and not the actual USB interface. If your vehicle has wireless car play, then this wouldn’t matter, but mine is a little older and doesn’t. (2) Because the wireless charger plugs in via cigarette port, it may limit you using other accessories in your vehicle. Luckily, my dash cam runs via OBD port, but many others DO use this for power, so that could potentially be something to consider. TLDR summary: Best Buy really showed up and showed out with this and there’s a few things if you really wanted to be knit picky but for me I would buy this and recommend this for others in a heartbeat. At the right price, this could also be a very easy stocking stuffer for the holiday time too.

    Decent Wireless iPhone MagSafe charger

This is a standard no-frills wireless charger for iPhones and associated cases which support MagSafe charging capabilities. For reference, I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and my husband has an iPhone 13, and on both we use Apple branded MagSafe cases; I have a silicone case and my husband has a clear case. We have tried and used both of our iPhones on this Best Buy iPhone car charger. It has a nice long but not-too-long cable between the charging pad and the power adapter part which plugs into the "cigarette lighter" port of the car. It is a bonus that the power adapter has an additional USB-A port which you can use to charge something else at the same time. The strength of the magnetic pull when placing the iPhone onto the charging pad is good; it is strong enough so that you won't be worried that your iPhone will bump off or slide off easily with the slightest bump in the road, while at the same time it isn't too strong where you would need to pry your iPhone off with two hands when grabbing it off the pad. As someone who is very used to plugging and unplugging my iPhone several times daily in my car, it is really nice to simply lift it off and place it on the pad when getting in and out of my car. There is a caveat, however--if you like using Apple CarPlay, you will have to make sure your car supports wireless Apple CarPlay; otherwise, you will still need to connect your iPhone physically, using its lightning connector. If your car does not support wireless CarPlay, you can still use this product to wirelessly charge your iPhone and not use a lightning connector, where you would be interacting with your iPhone using your car's standard Bluetooth connection for Siri, listening to music, etc. Overall I think this product, at its price point, does the job decently; however, where it fails somewhat is how it attaches to the car vent. There is no adjustable or solid clamp mechanism, which I have utilized before in other smartphone car holders which attach to car vents. Instead, there is something which looks like a bird's triangular beak from the side, and you shove one of your car vent's slots in between the upper and lower "beaks". There is nothing to secure it further onto the car vent slot, so even with a slight push from any direction, it will move. It is a somewhat stable enough connection, but is in no way a rock-solid clamped-down, fully secure, will not move unless you purposefully knock it down, type connection. Again, I say this because I've had about 3-5 other smartphone car holders which attach to car vents, and they've all had much better, much more solid and tight connections to car vents than this one. For this reason I docked it a star in my rating.

So wireless charging is where it is at now days, but is getting to be a challenge with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, because of the new style of camera area. Some of the previous wireless charging options, just don't work, and you need to go with a magnetic style. So Pro: It charges, and seems to be fully compliant with the MagRing for Apple, as the phone does detect it as a mag-ring charger (visually able to see that when the charging starts). It seems to charge at a pretty quick rate, but I haven't broken out the timer on it.. but I can get 10% charge added to the phone, during a short trip. Looking forward to try it on a long road trip, with navigation going. Two downsides though: The clip to the vent, there is no way to adjust it. It is really really tight, and you slide it on.. but if your vent is a little thick you may have some problems, and be very careful, not to push to hard, you could break your vent. Bigger downside... the plug. WAY to thick and big, and really looks/feels cheap. And the wire does NOT come out of it. The way my car is designed, these thick 12v plugs, push into the cup holder, and I lose that one for drinks. I can't swap this out for a different one (like a mini Anker). It does have a 2nd USB port, but no indicator on what the voltage rating is on it. Not sure if I will be able to charge two iPhone 14's on it, or not yet. Good/Bad, the cord is REALLY long... for many installations, the cord is way too long. It works, but there are many options out there, and this one really doesn't do anything different, and lacks in a couple areas.

The perfect iPhone companion for your vehicle!

I have been using the charger for a while. I even took it with my on vacation when we got a rental car. This is a definite must have companion for my MagSafe iPhone in a vehicle. It is built very well and is very sturdy. The mounting clamp for the car vent is only by friction. So you have to just force it on. But It holds the vent very well and doesn’t move. I do wish it was a clamp or screw clamp so it would be a little easier to install. The magnet it very strong and hold the phone very well and the phone does not move one millimeter while it’s attached to the charger. The charging works very well on the unit. I was running GPS and Bluetooth and the battery stayed at 100% which is a huge plus! I hate when I have a charger that can’t keep up with my usage. Not a problem with this charger. The lighter jack plug also does have a usb port built into it so you can charge something else. This is great the lighter plug isn’t just used for the unit. I definitely recommend this charger. It is a great must have MagSafe Charger for any car.

    Very Good Charger

I had been looking for a wireless charger to put in my truck for several weeks, and I received this Best Buy Wireless Car Charger. When I took it out of the box I was very reluctant as if it would hold up because of the way the clip was made, I was soon proven wrong. I clips into your air/heat vent which makes it easy to move around in the vehicle, which I really like. The one I had previously that broke after a month or two took an Act of Congress to move from vent to vent. I placed it on the left side of my steering wheel, the vent closer to the drivers window, and used the plug located in my console to plug in the charger, the reason I shared that is it comes w/ a cord that is very long, in fact I ran it under the steering wheel and into the console close to the dash. I really like how strong the magnet is on this charger, it is exceptional, and I like the fact that I my phone attaches to my truck through Bluetooth, which allows me to take hand free calls all the while my phone is charging. Best Buy did a good job w/ the manufacturing of this charger. I highly recommend this product.

Finally, a charger that works with my Wrangler

I’m my Wrangler, I have the vents that rotate 360 degrees in all directions. None of the regular vent clamps stay put, even the ones with the hooks (which have been invariably too short). This Insignia one has “wings” and locks in nicely. By spreading over the surface of my vents, the louvers are prevented from spinning, which keeps everything tight. The magnet doesn’t feel like it has as much pull as some of my other MagSafe stuff; that’s both a positive and negative. On the bright side, it has a bigger surface area for support that makes it feel sturdier when it’s attached. It also makes removing my phone feel less likely to pull the clamp off my vent. Conversely, the non-round configuration of the charger makes the locked angle the only angle your phone stays in unless you want to adjust it. The adjustment mechanism for the angle/orientation of the MagSafe attachment point uses a finger-tightened locknut on a ball head. Once you have it tightened down, it’s not moving. Coupled with the aforementioned “wing” clamp, the whole set up is very sturdy and shouldn’t fall during normal use. This is now my go-to car charger, as I’ve been using CarPlay with the phone attached to a cable in my center console before now. CarPlay isn’t as good as having the phone right on the vent, so I’m happy.

Solid MagSafe Charger/Mount for the Price!

This car charger securely held both an iPhone 12 Pro and my iPhone 14 Pro Max, nicely. It should hold any iPhone that has MagSafe, with ease - all while wirelessly charging at the same time. Mounting was pretty simple. I did find it somewhat hard to open the ‘jaws’ that clamp onto my car’s vent fins, but once I did, if feels like the right amount of grab to keeps things in place without damaging anything. I also like that the clamp has some tabs to the top and bottom, letting it support itself on my car’s dash. The charger is very helpful when using directions on your phone without draining the battery in the process… and while I placed it above my car’s center screen, I don’t feel like the cable gets in the way. The plug itself does stick out decently far out of the cigarette lighter port, which could be a consideration for some, but it was fine for me. I also appreciate the extra USB-A charging port this provides, though I would have preferred USB-C. While this is an ‘essentials’ branded item, it actually has a premium feel to it… or specifically the metal chassis surrounding the edges and back of the charging mount, which appears to be similar to an anodized finished. I expected this to be plastic for the price, but it’s a very welcome element here. In short, I’m impressed by this charger - it has both great charging and magnetic mounting ability, with a minimal footprint and looks to match. I received this product as part of a review program, in exchange for an honest review.

Charges well, does not hold through the phone case

I like the idea of charging my phone without having to fumble with the cords and special attachments, especially in the car! This phone holder/charger plugs easily into the 12v sockets in my truck; I have them in the front and the back. When I laid the phone on the circular disk part, it signalled that it was charging! So far, so good. Next I adjusted the air vent holder portion and got it arranged at a perfect angle. Even though my phone connects to my truck via bluetooth and I have a big screen on the dash, I figured it would be nice to have the phone closer in the air vent. Alas! My phone will not adhere to the magnetized section of the charger while in its protective case. I removed my phone from the protective case, and it immediately attached itself to the holder. Thus, my conundrum! I can keep the charger in a cup holder and charge the phone without removing it from the case, OR, I can remove the phone from its case and have it attached magnetically to the charger in the air vent. I was quite disappointed that the popular name brand phone case prevented the phone from attaching via the magnet. I think they should have stated this somewhere in the literature.

Perfect to Charge Two Phones at Once

This little device filled the need to charge two phones at once. Installed this charger on an air vent in the car. Then next I could charge an iPhone attached to the device magnetically - which is most of the time for me. Also it held the iPhone in perfect view for maps and directions and for taking calls. This device also has a USB connector on its car 12 volt plug. I utilized the USB connector to charge a second phone or other device at the same time. It should be noted that this device will charge a magnetically attached iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13, iPhone Mini, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Mini with the MagSafe cases. I did see that if I charged my iPhone just directly with a USB cable, it charged a little faster than with this device, but I have found this charger to be much more convenient since it can be easily used in the car all the time. Be sure you place the center of your iPhone onto the round circular demarcation on this charger. What is helping me a lot is that I can charge my watch, another phone for another family member or even earbuds a the same time because of the extra USB port. I highly recommend this very useful device.
