Not worth it for a Mac

So I downloaded what I thought Bitdefender Total Internet Security for 5 devices and installed it on my Mac. The devices it is supposed to cover are Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. Bitdefender Total Security has a slew of interesting features ransomeware protection, password manager, wifi safety monitor, web cam protection ( I really liked that idea,) password manager and more. Here is the problem, all of that is true if you install it on a Windows device. When installed on a Mac, you get Bitdefender Antivirus and that is it. The antivirus software does offer your typical antivirus and anti-malware protection that you would expect to find in any decent security software. That includes quick scan features, plug in’s for browsers etc. It does give you an option on “Safe Files” to protect certain files from alteration and abuse. I understand the program is cross platform and I would expect reduced features on mobile platforms but not the OS platform. It was very dissappointing and not clear to me in the software advertisments that you cannot use all the features, functions and benefits unless it is installed on a Windows based system. Got to Bitdefender’s website and take a look for yourself, it clearly states "Complete protection for Windows, Mac OS, iOS and Android.” It is only clear when you scroll down and click on each operating system . There you will see a significantly reduced feature set on Mac. For a 1 year subscritption and the limitations for the Mac, I cannot recommend this for any Mac user.

Hello. While the feature set does vary between Windows and MAC operating systems (certain features are not available on MAC devices) the level of protection offered by Bitdefender on both platforms is the same. This is because Bitdefender uses the same engines to protect both devices regardless of OS.

In terms of features, some of the features are not available on Apple devices either because they're not necessary (such as the cleanup and optimization features) or simply because Apple's implementation/approval process won't allow them.

Please know, at Bitdefender we are always working to synchronize our feature set between platforms and offer you added value without sacrificing performance.

We want you to be a satisfied customer. Should you have any questions, please contact us at Bitsy@bitdefender.com BitDefender

I am logged into a hundred thousand things and that's just at work so to have something to help me through my personal life and all of those passwords as well as giving some protection I couldn't think of a better piece of software. This is a must-have if you have a million passwords. Nowadays most of us do.

Bitdefender Total Security is a premium security suite that offers cutting edge defense against cyber threats and malicious content. Installation & setup are pretty simple. Once the license is applied and the updates are applied, you can rest easy knowing your data is protected. I was really impressed with the mobile security. I can protect my phone and tablet (iPad) and keep them safe from compromise. The management console is very intuitive. You can check the status of your protection with the click of the mouse. One of the most impressive elements of the Bitdefender Total Security suite is that it in not resource intensive. I do not see any performance impact on any of my devices (Mac, Windows, iOS) after installation. When I check the service for the application I see it is using minimal CPU/RAM resources. Even during system scans, there is no impact to the performance of my devices. I would highly recommend this security suite to protect your systems.

This security software seems to run very well in the background without slowing down my computer. I've used other security software that does slow down my system. This one doesn't seem to slow it down. It also doesn't seem to have the annoying pop ups that some other software has.

Bitdefender was easy to install. It seems to operate very well behind the scenes. Only noticed a few instances of performance slow down. It detects a lot the my previous protection did. It. Make sure you research before deleting things. Overall good and safe bet

Bitdefender has been my go to protection software for years. This new version looks even better. The user interface is very easy to navigate. This is great for those who are not that computer suave. I enjoy the tools that Bitdefender offer and their Parental Advisor. I am able to apply filters to block inappropriate websites and how much they are using their social media. This software is all encompassing, for the price, its functionality, how I can manage multiple devices, I hands down would recommend this software for anyone who is in the market! You would not be disappointed.

I’m very happy with the bitdefender. It’s fast, and simple, especially with autopilot. It’s really a set it and forget it kind of software that takes all the worrying from you. Not only that, it doesn’t bog down your computer when it’s running. It doesn’t eat a lot of resources. Total security includes browsing privacy, password manager, privacy when browsing the web and ransomware defense not to mention startup optimizer, disk cleanup and ever anti-theft! This software works with windows, mac, android and IOS too! AND one license works on FIVE devices! Can’t beat that! The software is very user friendly and easy to navigate. You won’t be disappointed using bitdefender!

I downloaded this product to my MacBook Pro and so far so good! Installing in my opinion works better with a decent speed wifi and once downloaded, the software takes you to the different steps. I currently do not have any other antivirus program and I haven't had one since my Compaq laptop back in day. I ran all of the scans and of course I am not surprised that Mac had any threats but I am really curious to try on a PC. Overall, the software is really easy to set up and I would definitely buy if I ever purchase a PC.

I have tried a few AV programs to try and find something decent, without costing hundreds of dollars. For years I have used AVG free, which does a decent job, but still seems to miss on certain viruses and malware. Using Bitdefender, I was eager to see the difference. It installed super quick, and gave me no issues. Upon running a system scan it detected a few things that AVG free never did, so that was nice. It runs smooth and does not slow down my system. I've used it for about a week and am very happy with it.

I received the registration code via mail. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. I installed it on my smart phone a tablet, and my laptop. So far it has eliminated some pesky pop ups on my smart phone. It doesn't drain the battery on any of my devices. Nor does it interfere with how they operate. When I install a new app or update an existing app it verifies they are virus free. Bit defender is customisable. On my smart phone it can lock or wipe it remotely if lost or stolen.

This software was very easy to download and install. So far it seems to be protecting my computer just great. It has blocked a few programs that run on my computer from starting but it is easily fixed. Has caught a few emails that contained viruses. The software is managed through a control panel on the company's website that lets you see what devices are connected and you are able to enable/disable various features for all the devices from one.

I was eager to try this out. it seems to work pretty good overall. like any AV, it catches things others don't, but then others catch things this wont etc. my only complaint is that it had me delete another AV as they don't work together. I did not mind as the other one was not being used. but should still have had an option to skip and allow. other then that, its an easy to use AV and does not use up a lot of computer resources to run it.

Nimble and smart antivirus. It recognizes when I am playing video games and will not bother me or take up too many resources. I have had issues with anti virus software hogging computer resources, resulting in a poor gaming experience. Bitdefender has various independent 3rd party anti virus lab certifications which shows this company knows what it is doing.

Like a lot of people I've been worried about my files and personal information getting on the web and being used in ways that I didn't wanted to be used. This software is a nice piece of security to protect your sensitive files. Very good user interface as well I would definitely recommend it if you have stuff that you want to keep yours.

    Very disappointing, bloated features

So the biggest reason that I did not like Bitdefender is that it seemed to interfere with my everyday usage of my computer, and often at times felt like it was bloatware in of itself. While yes it did not have an effect on the performance of my laptop it often felt that it stopped me from doing things on my laptop. A couple of really good examples is that whenever you are making an online purchase or checking online banking information it will open up a specialty browser of sorts, but the problem is that it doesn't take over the information that you had put into the previous browser. So if you were ready for checkout from say Best Buy and you were going to run your transaction through you would all the sudden not see your items in your cart and in this specialty browser you would need to go do all of your shopping again and also need to sign into the website where you were doing your application. You also can't back out of it and it makes it difficult to do simple things like check your online banking because if you navigate away from the specialty browser then whenever you load another page from your normal browser it will bring this specialty browser back up. So it is a nightmare and there seems to be no way to turn the feature off. Coming from the perspective of an IT person I also find it infuriating that you cannot completely uninstall this software from the computer without doing an Operating System reinstall. That is absolutely insane. I can completely remove the actual anti-virus, but you can't remove the "Bitdefender Agent" that reinstalls it back onto your computer. Oh and it also have the issue with conflicting anti-virus. It turns off Windows Firewall which I expect it to do, but does not turn off Windows Defender when it is installed. It is literally one of the most consumer unfriendly anti-virus software applications I have ever seen. It does get a point from me for truly not being heavy on system resources and that is a strong mark for it. Honestly I prefer Windows Defender granted I rarely have issues with viruses on my computer.

      Hi Lerotz,

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and let me assure you that I will do everything possible to make Bitdefender work for you.
For your first point, the fact that Safepay doesn't always take over information from your other browser this is caused by the way that certain websites identify a browsing sessions and our engineers are working on finding a solution to this. In the meantime you can disable Safepay from starting up automatically by following these steps. Open up the Bitdefender interface > Click on the Privacy section > Hit the Safepay button > click on the hamburger menu in Safepay and select Settings > Select the Do not recommend me to use Safepay in the first drop-down menu and then close Safepay. After this Safepay will only open up when manually selected from the interface.
For your second issue, the fact that you cannot uninstall Bitdefender from the Control Panel. This is not the default behavior for Bitdefender, and the Bitdefender Agent should also uninstall alongside Bitdefender. For the rare cases where this doesn't happen we've created a dedicated uninstall tool which can be found here https://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall/
As for the disabling of Windows Defender, this can happen for two reasons. On Windows 10, the Defender services will remain active as this is a requirement from Microsoft which we cannot supersede. On older versions of Windows this can happen because the Defender API does not correctly respond to Bitdefender's calls.
I really want to make you give us a second chance and I'll do anything it takes as I said. You can reach out to me at [email protected] at any time. BitDefender

I have been with Bit defender for over 6 years. I spend a good deal of time on the web and have never had one problem with infections. The Total Security has functions u may not need but since the price for most of the levels are the same get the Total Security. I have tried others and this is the best for me.
