Blade Runner 2049 is Denis Villenueve's masterful sequel to one of the most influential and classic Sci Fi movies of all time. Cerebral and a visually impressive, younger viewers who go in expecting an action type movie will be disappointed...and are frankly, missing the point. Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Lared Leto, and Robin Wright are fantastic, as are the rest of the cast: Sylvia Hoeks, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Lenny James, and other's too numerous too mention. Oh, and this film SHINES in 3D...it's a HUGE disappointment that 3D is being phased out in the US. Hopefully my two 3D TVs (55" Samsung LCD and a 72" Mitsubishi DLP) have many years left in their life span.

If you enjoyed the original blade runner, you will enjoy this. The film, a direct sequel to the 1982 original, is a masterpiece of cinematography. To use a cliche, "they just don't make them like this any more." Unfortunately, its length, direct narrative connection to a 30-year old film, and long establishing shots that break up the action (but really help to create a sense of place, and make the payoff for the action scenes much more impactful) may have hurt it at the box office. If you're a fan of sci fi, cyberpunk, and questions about the role of technology in society, I highly recommend you add this film (and its predecessor) to your collection. The special features provide some interesting background, especially if you haven't seen the original, and if you have, they also cover some of the events that happened in between. This is a package that's well worth owning.
