Used it only one time when tried to make smoothie but the milk leaked out at the bottom where the blade installed. Returned it and very disappointed when Bestbuy's customer service did not honor a replacement with the sale price =$250 "Deal of the day". Bestbuy would replace it in full price = $400.

Great blender? But is it really worth it?

The Blendtec Designer Series 8-Speed Blender is a VERY impressive blender. But at a price of almost 300-400 dollars is it REALLY worth the price difference compared to other brands? I asked myself this question while putting this blender through its tests. I must say, the blender itself is very well made and the fact that it has an 8 year warranty gives me great peace of mind. But for the price point I'm not so sure it's really worth it. I think they could include a little bit better quality mixing container. Compared to the Ninja pro blender I already have in the house I think the top lid is pretty cheap. The ninja came with a lock on lid and a spoon to help loosen things if need be. Now I must say that I think the Blendtec is much more powerful, so maybe it doesn't need a spoon but for what I really use it for which is mostly milkshakes and smoothies I believe both are comparable. I think the difference could be grinding up a huge amount of items that could possibly overwhelm the Ninja. I think the Blendtec is a fantastic blender and the smoothies I've made so far have been creamy and delicious. But I always wonder why with some of the company's pre made settings that they insist on blending something for so long. For example the smoothie setting is 60 seconds. After about 15-20 i would consider it to be completely blended and anything else is overkill. Not sure if they're thinking you are making smoothies for 6, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary blending. Luckily you can manually do whatever you like, but sometimes i feel like companies try to overcomplicate the blending process. I think this blender is great and I can't wait to use the recipes they include and really explore this blender more. But for me I probably would save your money and get a comparable blender at about half the price and add in an additional item like an espresso machine or something!

You can use for smoothies, agua fresca, and sauces. And you can follow any of the recipes on their web site to make things like sherbet, dog treats, and muffins even. Very easy to clean, Does well with frozen fruit and ice, and lots of other things. So easy to use and you'll use more often then you thought. Loving it.

I was skeptical when someone told me I’d be eating soup from the blender... Well, I was shocked and we’re now making soup, smoothies and ice cream on a weekly basis. This thing rocks. I have never used the competitors version personally but this Blendtec 8 speed blender is great. The various presets will start out and end in just about perfect speed and timing in order to ensure you don’t over blend a mixture or heat your ice cream but then knows how long to go in order to get the bowl of soup just right. Before school just about every day my kids are making smoothies with just fruits, peanut butter and even some Cheerios in order to change the flavors around a bit. As long as you peel the fruits with skins, such as a banana, you can put just about anything else in including the seeds, let it run and you’ll have a healthy, vitamin packed smoothie. I definitely recommend this blender!

Great blender with a couple of flaws

Before I even used the blender, I had issues. First, the instructions caution to not put hot liquids in the blender, but then has a setting and instructions for ‘hot’ soups. How does the manufacturer think you make soup? You cook ingredients and then put them in the blender hot. So, do I have to cool it completely, blend it and then reheat? My cheap Oster blender lets me go straight from pot to blender by leaving the lid off and covering with a dish towel. Then you read the cleaning instructions, which say the blender jar is dishwasher safe, but only on the top rack! Who has a dishwasher with a top rack tall enough for this jar? I am sure both of those issues are due to the jar being plastic. For the price of this blender, you can’t make the jar from glass? That said, it does a wicked good job on cold things. In fact, it doesn’t even need the amount of time it defaults to on the presents. I made a Strawberry-Banana smoothie. Put the strawberries in whole and chose the smoothie setting. I stopped it half-way through, after just 30 seconds. Not a single chunk. I did use ice cream, so perhaps the preset thinks you’re using ice cubes that take longer to chop up. I did also make soup out of leftover Thanksgiving roasted butternut squash. Just put the whole casserole (butternut squash, onions, blue cheese) in the blender – cold – with some chicken stock and chose the hot soup setting (still don’t get the ‘hot soup’ setting when they say don’t put anything hot in). Again, it took a fraction of the time to blend it all up and was smooth as silk. I’ll have to debate whether I want to test it out and make butternut squash soup the way I normally would, which would be to cook the squash in stock and put it in the blender hot. So, for blending performance, I give this machine very high marks. Great for cold beverages. But, the limitations and plastic jar make it not worth the price in my book.

This is my 2nd Blendtec Blender and I love them both. The most powerful motor available. The 3-peak horsepower means quicker and more powerful blending, but you might never need that much force . However, the 3-peak horsepower motor means that since you may never need the full force of the blender during typical use, the appliance will operate under less load – lessening the stress on the motor, and resulting in longer motor life. The unbreakable, wingtip blade is made of stainless steel and is 80 percent thicker and ten times stronger than blades from other blender manufacturers. Although the blades can ferociously grind and cut through frozen or dense food (or even an iPhone) while blending, they are not sharp, making clean-up less hazardous. And best of all, it has an 8 year warranty on the motor

This is a great blender that I found simple to use. I love the 8 different speed settings. As a person who loves and enjoys smoothies, I tested this blender by making a smoothie and man I was thoroughly impressed with its ability to blend so well. With the holidays in tow, this will be put to great usage in my home as I do a lot of entertaining this time of year.

Love It! Commercial quality in a home package. Looks great on the counter. Heavy base makes it stable when blending. Love the sealed touch area for quick cleaning. This has a 1500W, 3HP motor. A 36 oz pitcher for blending is large enough to handle jobs for our family of 6. The touch area has illuminated icons to ease of selection for cycles. It also has the pulse function which I find comes in handy from time to time. I have had no issues blending ice and frozen fruit... And it has an 8 year warranty. What more could you ask for.

OK, let me first say that a blender that costs as much as a washing machine is a luxury item, and I'm pretty sure a "casual" blender user won't even be looking at a device like this. That said, this blender is super awesome. It works fabulously on any task you throw at it, and it looks so nice I leave it out on the counter all the time. I especially like the touch-screen control panel, for two main reasons. One, it looks super cool, and two, there are no seams or crevices to collect residue from spills. My only minor gripe is that it is pretty loud. I hope that it lasts for a long time!

If you are serious about your blending, this blender is worth its price. This is the heavier, larger version and if you blend on an uneven surface or you blend with a lot of frozen food stops the blender from bouncing and moving like other blenders. This is a blender for those who can't boil water. The blender uses SmartBlend technology that senses and id's potential problems. I don't know how it does it but it blends a little bit differently when I blend up Chia seeds or a smoothie so that the bits are truly to a minimum and superfine for the Chia. This blender is the absolute best for blending/grinding seeds and nuts to a superfine powder. Works great for nuts and seeds to turn it into different types of flowers. This blender, for me, makes the best smoothies. I use 4 cups of kale, a lemon, cup of blueberries, 5 large strawberries and it is the consistency is super smooth and not chunky. I put it in a thermos and with a simple stir later on in the day, the smoothie goes back to being smooth and chunk free. The blender comes with 6 preprogrammed cycles + 10, Smoothie, ice cream, Whole Juice, Soup and a clean cycle. It cycle comes with a count down timer and the cycles work well with different items too. The capacitive touch slider acts as a multi speed pulse for 8 different speeds. I love that feature for when I am making a vegetable based soup, so much easier than cutting everything up. We also own a Blendtec blender that is close to 8 years old and still works great. We use it at least twice a day. We did have to have it repaired and replaced and it was super easy and the replacement unit was shipped quickly. The customer service and warranty is also top notch. If you blend everyday and use a blender with your everyday cooking, this is a perfect blender for you.

    Nicely comparable to the Vitamix

I appreciate the simplicity of this blender. The last couple that I've tried have been the "bullet" style blenders, both from Magic Bullet and Ninja. Both of these come with a mass of jars to use, different attachments, which generally sit around taking up about 3 cu.ft. of space with rarely being used. This is just what you need. The blender base, the blades, and the jar. It also looks really nice! The only real difference between this and a Vitamix (which I've used as well) is the missing plunger to push things toward the blades. If you use the right amount of liquid, you don't need that. Also, it's nice not to need to clean it. The controls are very simple and intuitive, and I really appreciate the warning lights. If the blender just stops, it's nice to know if it is overheated, or something more serious. The pre-set settings for different foods seem to work well (though I haven't tried all of them as yet). I really appreciate this over the bullet style blenders, however, as there is no rubber gasket to randomly get sucked up into the drink. Whenever this happened with the others, the drink is ruined and the blender is unusable until you get a replacement gasket (assuming you can find one; my Ninja has been unusable for months). Simple to use and clean. Time will tell with the durability, but I'm pleased thus far.

Inside the box you will find a base, pitcher and lid. Unlike other blenders there are no extras. However, this blender does have a heavy duty feel and it performs exceptionally. Ice and frozen fruit don't stand a chance. Its so powerful I contemplated throwing some rocks into it to make some sand.

Wow, talk about power. I've had blenders in the past that blended the ingredients but always left pits, rind, etc. at the bottom of the container. I've see Blendtec's "Will it Blend?" videos and even though I have no intention of blending my iPhone, I wanted to be able to make great smoothies. This blender made me the best smoothie I ever had. At the low speed, to start, it was as fast as my old blender's fastest speed. When I upped the speed to the maximum, I thought the blender was going to take off into space. If you want the best, smoothest drinks and more, the Designer 8 Speed Blender is definitely the way to go.

With this blender chopping nuts, crushing ice, blending batter, making (really smooth) smoothies, making ice cream you can hardly consider this just a blender. Brings blending to a whole new level. It has different blending levels for your different needs by the push of a buttom, varying the speeds for individual needs that differ from ice cream to chopping nuts, i.e. different consistencies needing different blending cycles. It is self-cleaning by adding water and a drop of dish soap. Can't wait to make some hot soup (using below boiling temperatures) and then the other extreme...ice cream.

    After 8 Years

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We've had the Blendtec Designer Series for 8 years now and used it virtually every day so here's the good and the bad with the bad first in hope that it gets attention: Bad: The jar. It's plastic and pits very easily. We put seeds in our smoothies like chia and they cause the jar to pit and stain. You can feel the roughness on the sides of the jar after only a couple of months of use and after a year of use it is very badly stained (especially if you use cocoa powder like we do) and no amount of cleaning will remove it. Replacing the jar costs $110! Highway robbery if you're doing it on an annual basis. With a blender this expensive, the jar should be made of glass and built to last. It should also be dishwasher safe. The "Use & Care" says "top rack only". Who has a dishwasher where this jar will fit on the top rack? As proof they have jars loaded on the bottom rack in the photo they have for "Use & Care"! The other issue we had was the ground tong of the plug came out after only a couple of years of use but not a big deal. Good: Despite the jar I don't think we could have bought a better blender. The fact that the base has lasted without issue for 8 years is proof of this. It blends like no other blender we have used. We tried a Ninja, for example, and it couldn't properly blend chia seeds like the Blendtec can. It's a also a good looking blender. Overall, I would recommend, just wish they would improve the jar.
