      Hi Mickey,

Sorry to hear that you were having trouble using your Yeti Nano. Note that the gain and pattern control is accessed through Blue's Sherpa software which is free (https://www.bluedesigns.com/products/sherpa/). I've also attached a link which has the the complete startup guide as well as any additional info you may have questions about. https://support.bluedesigns.com/hc/en-us/articles/360034566013-Getting-Started-Yeti-Nano

      Hope this helps,

    Skip the snowball

At the time I bought this mic Snowball approx $60 Blue Yeti approx $125 Nano approx $85 At 2020 $100 Snowball sounds muffled unless you have a high pitched voice. Not great for deeper voices. That plastic shiny ball look is tacky. Original Yeti has great quality but big and heavy. Have to buy more expensive accessories. Has a million settings when all I need is cardioid. Nano - Super clear and crisp. Absolutely better than the snowball. Not as rich as the Yeti's mid range but the difference barely disernable. Light and easy to mount. What makes it my top choice is the presence of timbre. It has more timbre than the snowball and the competitor, audio technica at2020, which comes in real close in crisp and clear sound. Considering timbre, the Yeti and Nano are about as close to a xlr mic I have heard from an affordable usb mic. 2nd reason I got the nano, I only use the super cardioid setting for business calls, gaming, and recordings. I appreciate the options but realistically have no need for them. Dont even miss it or wonder. One thing to be careful of - the 24 bit + 48k hz recording rate means higher quality pick up but also higher sensitivity. Sound dampening, acoustic treatment, turning the gain down close to 50-60%, filters, and proximity to the mic are a must. Otherwise all kinds of background noise, echoes, and hissing gets in. I also use a foam cover to help block the noise from the pc fan. Fyi the blue yeti sherpa app is useless. I use voicemeeter with it just fine. I highly recommend this mic.

Excellent sound, build quality and software

I have been using this mic for the past two days on a number of Skype calls. All others on the call have noted a major improvement in sound quality. Many pros to this mic: 1) Fantastic build quality --- metal grille, housing and stand, protective rubber underneath stand base, solid/flexible USB connector. 2) Mute button right up front -- press for live (green ring around button) or mute (red ring around button). Button serves double duty as a volume knob for headphone monitoring, a 1/8" jack underneath the mic serves as a connector for zero-latency headphone monitoring of mic recording 3) Fast/easy selection of cardioid (speaker-focused recording) vs. omnidirectional (all in the room) recording via two buttons on the back of the mic 4) Outstanding pickup quality -- great rejection of computer/ambient noise (especially in cardioid mode) 5) The Sherpa app is easily downloaded and allows for screen/mouse-based muting, pickup pattern selection, recording sample rate, input and gain levels (highly recommended to install this). Overall, an excellent value and a huge improvement in sound on laptop-based conference calls. The mic is probably not quite portable enough to take on the road - but it is possible if you have enough room in the suitcase.

The ability to change patterns is very handy. The issue with that feature is that there's no indication of what pattern you're on. The volume dial doesn't change input volume, only output volume. Input volume has to be changed via settings. Overall, this microphone gets the job done but could stand to work on usability.

I had the original Blue Yeti on my desk previously, and had many comments about how large it was. The new Nano has great sound quality but blends into the surroundings much better.
