I've wanted a Blueair for over 10 years and was really excited when Blueair brought in the affordable Blue line. There are many reasons why I like this product. Check out my quick and complete review at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6uB4uWNdaE

Great for dust, but smells like charcoal

This purifier does an excellent job of clearing dust, making the air clean. However, there is a distinct charcoal smell from the filter that just won't go away. You can really smell it if you leave the room and come back. I ran the purifier for 3 weeks hoping it would just go away. I believe the fault is in bad design, as they designed the charcoal filter as the last filter in the process. Nearly all other purifiers put the charcoal filter first or middle, and then the HEPA filter. This model goes HEPA filter, then charcoal, then out it goes. Or it could be Blue Air uses better charcoal in their premium line. I returned it and got the Honeywell HPA300, and finally clean smelling air. If they ever fix the charcoal smell, this would be a great purifier.

Hi there! Clearly this isn't the experience we want our customers to have. Our filters shouldn't be giving off any kind of odor at all, this would defeat their purpose. If you decide to ever give us another chance and experience a filter giving off an odor, please contact us immediately. 888-258-3247/[email protected] blueair

great dust collector.. compared to dysons

if you need all the features and super high filter quality then use different brand. this is like a mini ac box. standard filter.. but great bang for the buck sq ft wise.. fan noise is very good quiet but not the quietest. but has a good gentle pitch. i needed something that collect dust as priority and this was prolly one of the best i had... i loved my dyson hp06 but really suck at collecting dust compared to this.

The pre-filter makes this unit much better than the brand I had previously. You get what you pay for when it comes to air purifiers.

Blueair uses ionizers and hides it.

This product specifically states it does not have an ionizer, but it does. I just received it and the instruction manual lists the ionizer feature, which cannot be turned off. The specifications on the Best Buy website says it doesn't, and the company also hides this fact everywhere else it's sold. It's vertu deceptive, the ozone produced from ionizers can be very harmful. The company claims, when asked directly, that the input doesn't produce harmful amounts of ozone - but how can you trust a company that is already being deceptive, especially when ionizers /ozone is not regulated and we have no way to know if it's safe to begin with?

We do apologize for any misunderstanding regarding ionizers as Blueair by no means want to deceive or hide facts from our customers. Blueair's HEPASilent™ technology uses a combination of mechanical and electrostatic filtration to capture and remove particles from indoor air, which it does so specifically and strategically: an ionizer component is designed to only charge particles at a very low current in order to increase the filtration efficiency in the air purifier’s filter and achieve an efficient Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR).
Blueair has conducted ongoing independent testing to ensure our air purifiers do not release harmful levels of ozone. All Blueair air purifiers are tested in accordance with UL Standard 867 demonstrating ozone emission levels far below the mandated California Air Resource Board (CARB) ozone emissions limit of less than 50 parts per billion (ppb). All Blueair air purifiers are CARB certified.
At Blueair we take our customer's health seriously, we are in the business of helping people breathe easier and always strive to provide excellent products and user experience. We appreciate your feedback and hope you will continue to explore and support Blueair products with confidence and satisfaction. blueair

    Charcoal Odor

    Posted .

Overall it's well designed, however it adds an odor to the room from the charcoal filter. Very noticeable after leaving the unit running for a while then coming back into the room. I've had it for 1 week and it hasn't improved. Disappointing. Who buys an expensive purifier to make the room smell worse?? I'm going to return it.

    Very Disappointed, DON'T BUY

I bought this air filter 3 weeks ago and I have been running it regularly. It produces a very bad smell. The air is not clean or fresh. I am very disappointed and will be trying to return it. I will be buying a different air filter that filters down to .003 microns. Don't waste your money on this machine!

Many new products release a new smell upon opening and using right out of the box. This is also true for filter media. Filter fibers can absorb a smell from other materials during the packaging process. This smell and all components involved during our filter production are harmless and non-toxic. This newness smell should move through and out of the filter within 48 hours of use. If you have run the air purifier for 48 hours and are still experiencing this issue, please email [email protected] with the serial number directly off the filter and your shipping address. We would be happy to send you a replacement filter at no cost to help make this situation better. blueair
