This is a well-integrated and refined machine. It will do everything you want except record streaming content. Its performance is killer. Unfortunately, it comes with a chain around its leg. A $15 a month service fee from TiVo. In short time this chain will have a ball around it and you find yourself paying hundreds of dollars in service fees to TiVo for a machine that's only worth a couple hundred dollars. Killer

TiVo is the best DVR... The new TiVo product line is one of the best all in one entertainment packages are systems I have seen or used. This system allows you to have your own DVR and not pay your cable company for DVR fees. This system also allows you to access many features such as Netflix Amazon Hulu Pandora and with some cable providers on demand content. While there is a monthly fee for TiVo service I'm a more than happy to pay that. I have two main DVR boxes and one of the tiVo mini boxes for an ad on TV all boxes network together with no issues. If you don't have a network jack available these boxes support a mocha network which allow Internet to connect to your devices with the same coaxial cable for your Internet or TV service. This product brings multiple products and solutions together and can also provide you a clean or more simple looking display for your entertainment system set up there's no 15 boxes for different services sitting on top of the TV stand it's all in one box that's very modern and uniquely designed.

I've wanted a TiVo again for years, this hasn't disappointed. After getting a few cable card issues worked out, it is lightning fast! No delay opening apps and the guide blows away charters. I now have a TiVo mini attached and got rid of the $10 amonth box fees, and no dvr fees, highly recommend!

There are other dvr's out there, each with pros and cons, according to the reviews. I settled on this model and am completely satisfied. It has enough storage for my needs (we record many shows), has an easy to follow guide and supports popular add-ins such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. The monthly subscription fee is often mentioned in negative reviews. This is subjective; if you mind paying it, then it's a negative, but a program guide is a big part of what makes a dvr useful, and can't be provided free. Unlike a cable box that I rent, I own this now and can still use it if I ever decide to go back to cable tv. Currently I have an HD antenna connected to it. It did require a booster to get the same quality signal I got when connecting the antenna directly to the tv.

I bought the 500GB Bolt to replace a TWC cable box and put the $25 per month cost towards something that will save me money in the long run. As soon as it came on, I noticed that the picture was clearer with better color. The guide is also very easy to follow as it has the ABC, Fox, NBC, etc logo next to the channel and the times and shows listed in an easy to follow format. My cable box said WHIO, WHBC, etc so I had to figure it out. The OnePass feature is great for recording a season worth of episodes and easy to set up. The only negatives are that It did take about 30-45 minutes to set up and remove the channels from the guide that I don't get, the $150 per year TiVo cost, and I do have to rent a cable card for $2.50 per month. It will take me about 20 months to start saving , but I plan to have the Bolt for many years to come.

Prefere Tivo over satellite or cable dvr boxes. They suck in comparison. I could not give five stars because I find the subscription and prices of them a bit ridiculous. There is also a delay in the software or hardware that makes it slower in response than it should as well as the remote will pause and double the command when you press the button at times which is annoying when you trying to select a menu and it doesn't move and then moves a lot to something else. Would like channel setup able to scroll through the channels to add or delete. Sometimes the show labels aren't correct. Good over all and better than the cable and satellite dvr's because of the remote and menu. God bless.

I love my Tivo Bolt. It is so much better than the DVR Cox sent me. It knows what I want and has not messed up once. The Cox Contour was often missing my shows or they could not be played. The Tivo Bolt will save me a lot of money and will lower my blood pressure.

I love tivo. Our household cut the cord (and by cord I mean satellite) about a year ago and we purchased the Roamio OTA which was awesome. Both the Roamio and the Bolt incorporate all of the things we love, all our extra subscriptions (netflix, hulu, amazon video, youtube, plex, and the bolt included xfinity on demand with our cable subscription) We decided on the Bolt when we switched internet providers to Comcast, who offered better speeds for the same price with an added tv cable package as AT&T's JUST mediocre internet speeds (even after the first year promotional prices) so we would be saving money our first year and receive the added 140+ cable channel package and the same amount as just paying for 25 Mbps At&T offered after the year was over and having incredible upload and download speeds. Tivo is for people who know before hand they don't want anything but the provider providing the signal. I knew before hand I did not want to purchase any extra boxes, modems, routers from Comcast and I didn't really get the freedom to do so with att much less direct TV. If you have satellite you have to check and see if they offer tivo services in your area before you make your purchase. I would say the likely answer is no. I also have a TIVO mini in the living room. We don't get any of those extra charges for extra boxes or router and modem rental fees which is one of the things I love about TIVO. The con: There is a yearly fee on top of the purchase price you can either pay 14.99 a month (one-year commitment) or pay 149.99 for a year's service. If your household has more than 2 TV's it might be worth it because of the extra charges you get from the cable company's extra boxes, usually one is free and the rest are extra, Plus you get a tivo: searches every path to get the shows you want and makes pretty cool recommendations, records television for you, and as a person that hates commercials, it now offers one button skip commercials for some channels and shows (BTW it only works after the show has finished airing. So shows will only skip with the single skip button after the show has aired and ended completely) it comes in handy for some movies that air on certain channels. I love Tivo as a company, I have owned a tivo off an on since the early 2000's and was devastated when DirectTV stopped using them. if you are tech savvy you'll love it, I think you might even if you are not. Getting it connected to your computer through the plex app and having all your movies at your finger tips and all your subscriptions up on your tv without having to worry about roku, chromecast is a cool plus for us. Installation was a hassle because the Comcast guy had no idea what was happening and had no idea what the tivo was. You will need a tivo card (maybe a few) I ended up doing the installation on my own through the phone and had to pick up the 2 tivo cards. All and all it was well worth it.

I've been the owner of two Series 2 TiVos for about 10 years now. Since one of them started flaking out, I decided to get the new TiVo Bolt. First of all, the Best Buy price for the 500GB was hard to beat (~$150 when I purchased). I was a little concerned whether 500GB was going to be enough space (since it appears you have fewer options about recording quality with the newer TiVos), but so far it hasn't been an issue. You can get an external drive for more storage space if needed, but so far TiVo has locked down purchase options (I believe only one model of Western Digital drives is compatible right now). The most welcome feature was the multi-tuner capability. Since the switch to digital cable, my Series 2 TiVos have been single-tuner boxes, since it requires the additional cable box for tuning. The 500GB Bolt has four tuners (utilizing a single multi-tuner CableCARD), allowing you to watch live TV while other programs are recording. The product itself has been a very pleasant experience. Switching to the apps (e.g. Netflix) is pretty snappy, and I like the integration of local recordings with options for streaming. There are some new features such as QuickMode (which is a quick-motion playback useful for speeding through long recordings such as sporting events) and Skip Mode (for skipping commercials). I do occasionally use QuickMode, admittedly just for playing around; I wouldn't miss it if this feature were removed later. Skip Mode is theoretically useful, but it's only available on some channels/programs, and isn't available until a short time after the program finishes. So far I haven't had much opportunity to use it. The CableCARD slot is a bit of a design annoyance. First of all, it's on the bottom of the device, so you have to flip the entire thing over and unhinge the opening to access. Flipping the TiVo upside down while it was on was a bit unnerving, but that's the directions I read online. Also, the lever you press to release the CableCARD from the slot is plastic and my cable technician broke it rather easily (requiring me to now use a pen or screwdriver to release the card), so be careful if you need to remove the card for any reason. Dealing with the cable company is another matter. It is obvious that they only begrudgingly support CableCARDs, and with the minimum support possible. I went through five CableCARDs before I got one that worked. They only provide them to you one at a time, and have no way of testing them in the office... you only know it works once you take it home and try it. The ones that didn't work were obviously used/refurbished and not taken care of (i.e. dents/scratches on the outside and not in a protective sleeve or box). If you get a technician that isn't familiar with TiVos and/or CableCARDs, they will quickly dismiss any issues as a "problem with the TiVo". Of course, you're in service limbo, as TiVo will blame the cable company and vice versa. If you use your TiVo for cable service, hold a rabbit's foot or something while calling the cable company, because it's like winning the lottery getting someone who knows what to do with CableCARDs and getting a card that works in the first place. Besides the service issues, I'm very pleased with the product itself, and would recommend it to everyone who still enjoys watching cable or OTA channels.

Got the Bolt and the satellite unit and after some minor setup glitches they work great. The cable card in the main unit is the only piece of carrier owned hardware I have. If I could have gotten Sling on the Bolt I’d have only bought the internet. Antenna wasn’t enough on its own.

Good DVR. Too bad you have to have a subscription. Not happy that you have to have a cable card even if you don't have to have a cable card for your cable service (if you set it up for cable use). I had to buy a cable card from ebay to get it work. The box also works with OTA antenna so you can use that as well if you don't have a cable subscription. Not happy that it doesn't work with Satellite service. Also, the subscription price is a little high considering the TiVo service itself is not that much better than what most cable providers already have.

Bought this since we got tired of paying for cable dvr subscription fees. It works like a charm after getting it set up. Getting it activated with the cable company was difficult the first time but that is no fault of the tivo itself. Great device!

Yes it is a strange shape and color but overall it is an excellent product. It was easy to install and program. You do need a multi stream card which you have to rent and probably a tuning adaptor which is free from the cable company.

I had tried to cut the cord two years ago, but wife and daughter kept demanding that I get cable back. Well, I wasn't going to pay for their equipment, their DVR upgrades, etc. The TIVO Bolt is smart, easy to use, and exactly what I needed. I used the Comcast cable card for access, get all of my HD channels and I can set it to record a show and then watch it almost immediately on my mobile devices. It was easy to setup, but I had to call Comcast and have a Tech on the phone to plug in the specs.

Much better performance than previous Tivo models. My only complaint is the monthly Tivo service charge combined with a monthly charge for the cable card from the cable provider.
