Customers are saying

Customers find value in the 500 Series dishwasher's quiet operation, excellent cleaning performance, and convenient third rack. Many appreciate its ease of use and capacity, along with the sleek design. However, some users note that cycle times are lengthy, and a few have experienced issues with reliability and an unusual odor. Concerns have also been raised regarding fingerprint resistance and the intuitiveness of the controls.

I Love that it’s so quiet. But it would’ve been better if the center rack was adjustable. Tall things have to be placed in a slanted position in order to fit. Even so, I still would not trade it for anything other dishwasher. (4.5 stars)

Dishwasher is great. Quietest one i've had. It was/is missing the brackets to attach the toe kick plate. Installers said it would be a couple days, it's been 3 weeks.

Quiet, efficient, our glasses sparkle and our unrinsed plates come out clean. Dries pretty well in auto air setting Only thing I could ask for would be some way to see how much time remains in a cycle.

Looks great. So quiet I kept going into the kitchen to make sure it was working. I did not do any pre-rinse and dishes were perfectly cleaned. Love the three shelves and stainless steel basin. Great product and would buy again.

    Bosch is King

What Sony is to TVs, Waste King is to garbage disposers, Bosch is to dishwashers. I struggled with which dishwasher to buy. Online user reviews were confusing at best. Most of the top rated items on Consumer Reports are Bosch, but user reviews didn't reflect the same high scores. I decided to go with my gut and get this Bosch model - my first Bosch product. After one week, my initial evaluation is that it's flat-out awesome - the best washer I've ever owned. Pros: 1) Dishes come out completely spotless 2) The Air Dry feature works extremely well. No dishwasher gets everything bone dry, but this thing is darn close. Most of the negative feedback I've seen is around drying - not just with this dishwasher, but all dishwashers. This dishwasher gets everything dry enough to go straight into the cabinet. I don't agree with the negative feedback I've seen on this. 3) Organization - The interior is highly flexible with lots of options to put dishes in different places 4) Third rack - I was skeptical of a third rack - concerned over it taking up additional space. But things get very clean and because the second rack is adjustable, it doesn't take away from the ability to put what you need where you need it. 5) Quiet - It's so quiet you wouldn't know it's on except for the red light that shines on the ground telling you it's running 6) It's a sleek looking machine that blends in well with my kitchen. Cons: 1) The interior seems a bit on the small side. However, because of the flexibility of the interior racks this really isn't an issue. I have installed all the other dishwashers I've owned but I did not install this one. The Best Buy crew did it in 1/2 hour and everything seems great. I can only assume it's easy to install. I have only had it a week, but unless something breaks, this is by far the best dishwasher I've ever owned and would definitely buy again. I highly recommend

I can’t believe how much i like this dishwasher. Everything gets clean. It is amazingly quiet. I thought the 3rd rack would be useless, but we put all the silverware and most utensils there. We removed the utensil racks on the bottom and have more room for pots and pans. It has a different way of drying which took some getting used to. But after I read the manual I understand it and use the auto wash and air dry which pops the door open after the cycle. The filter is easy to clean and put back. It was easy to install. Overall a really great product that was engineered with forethought. Very very happy.

    - Great cleaning! - Many different smart ways to arrange dishes with changing configurations on racks (though racks are a relatively primitive feature on any dishwasher). - love the auto-air feature that opens the door ant the end to enhance drying -it really works well. Even plastics in the middle racks come out dry. - Love the larger capacity dry/rinse aid fill-up, so we don’t have to fill it up aa often as we did in our previous KitchenAid. - Super quiet. - Energy saving seems great but I still don’t understand why choosing Regular instead of Auto is better and takes more time. Tip: we did discover that the Finish brand tabs work far better here than the Cascade brand. Especially on our copper cookware which it actually shines instead of oxidizing. I have never seen this happen before in a previous dishwasher. We came to this from an expensive KitchenAid that was too expensive to repair after 4 years. Our entire extended family on both sides and in 3 different countries swore by their Bosch dishwashers and even though the North American models are a decade behind the euro models -we can see why they love them. It’s a night and day difference in terms of cleaning, drying, rack arrangement, capacity, and noise management. The KitchenAid was prettier but I will never buy KitchenAid (or any of these Westinghouse brands appliances) ever again. Parts breaking and falling off all the time crude assembly quality, replacement after such short time because the unreliable parts are more expensive than a new dishwasher, its landfill pollution not to mention washing quality that’s mediocre at best on these. We are delighted with the Bosch!

Doesn’t drain a dry properly since day installed

2-year warranty expired recently, but drainage has always been a problem. I’ll clean the filter and I still get the errors, practically ever wash. E22 or E24. Always annoying because usually have had to run the rinse cycle after a wash and them air dry since the hot air dry no longer turned on. Unlike my old Whirlpool, Bosch does not have a dry cycle but only a pop open and air dry cycle. I was skeptical but purchased it in the basis of reviews. I have been disappointed. That said, when it works it is quiet and cleans well, but now I need to call again for someone to fix the drainage. Note this has happened since the first week it was installed. A guy came back and giggled everything and said, see it works. Sure, every other time but NOT reliably. It’s possible it’s the installation and not the machine but the old machine drained fine so I doubt it. I never needed to call for a repair for 20 years with the old machine. This one is 2-3 calls in a couple of years.

This dishwasher is quiet. The dishes come out clean and dry. I love the feature of the third rack for flatware, it makes putting away the knives, forks, and spoons so much easier. You don't have to bend down to get to them. The dishwasher is attractive, I think it adds to the kitchen. It is all you ask for in a dishwasher

Pricey, but great washer. Very quiet snd cleans well. Replaced a 20 year old Maytag. Love the stainless steel inside. Easy to maintain and the racks work well with a large assortment of items. 3rd tray is a plus. Time it takes to wash seems longer than it might need to be, but I am ok with that. The air dry option is great if you need to have everything super dry.

My last dishwasher was 20yo so needless to say this was always going to be an improvement but I am flabbergasted. I am having to train myself out of pre-rinsing all my dishes. This model really is just scrape and place and it is saving me loads of $$ per load. I love that all the controls are hidden from the view of my toddler and that there is no obvious bar for them to pull on. The stainless steel is covered with finger prints but I've encouraged them with all the play magnets I've placed on the front. I love that a light shines on the ground when this is running. I'm sure in a whisper quiet household you would be able to hear it running, but that is not ours! There is also a light on the panel to say the dishes are clean, should some wonderful soul in your life do them without your knowledge. The design in thought out through and through. The extra top shelf frees up more space below and I love that you can not only lower and raise the shelves but do it on only one side, letting you tilt around awkward objects. I'm calling it Mrs. Pots

    Poor Quality

I purchased a 500 Series in May 2020 for a new home we were having constructed. We moved in and started using the appliances in November 2020. It is now March 2023 (28 months later) and the pictures show the state of our wonderful new Bosch Dishwasher. (Used by 2 adults, 1-2 times a week) I had done a TON of research before purchasing the Bosch. I was so excited about their units that I "splurged" and jumped up to the 500 Series...figuring we would have this for a while! We had been experiencing a few drips and leaks, but always figured we were not loading the unit correctly, or that we hadn't closed the door correctly. Frankly, we were just too busy to follow-up. It was easier to wipe-up a bit of water than to pull-out the files and contact Customer Service. 100% our mistake. Finally, we called Customer Service this weekend. We are out of warranty. (No beef there, we are.) The guidance given was that for repairs, Customer Service would/did send us a list of approved Bosch technicians who would, "Give you the cost to come to your house and then give you an estimate for any repairs." Well...we are passing on that and getting a new dishwasher. (It won't be a Bosch) Warranty for 1 year. Terrible leaks after 2 years. It's a great unit. No problem with cleaning dishes, super quiet, we loved it. But way, way, way too expensive for a 2-year appliance. I recommend that you look so someone other than Bosch (as we are now) for your dishwasher needs.

It took me some time to figure out how to use this machine, but once I learned its quirks and the best settings for each type of load, I love it!! The AUTO-AIR feature is a MUST HAVE on an energy efficient low heat machine like this. It basically uses hot water and evaporation in lieu of heat pumps. This auto air not only gives you the most obvious indicator that the dishes are done, but improves the drying time and keeps the dishwasher from smelling moldy/musty. There is an EXTRA DRY and SANITATION feature that uses even hotter water and dries the dishes better, but I found that you should only use that for pots/pans and heavy duty items. I had some plastic containers that warped on that setting. So be careful when you use that setting. The only downside is that most dishwasher settings take a long, long time to run. But they do have a HALF LOAD quick wash feature you can choose. Also note that you must hit the auto air button to activate that feature, and while it appears to add time to the cycle - it doesn't really, because it is only including the recommended time to wait after the cycle completes and the door opens to air dry. At this point, the cycle is done and you can remove the dishes if you want. I wish they used a GREEN button instead of RED to indicate that the machine is running, but I got used to it. Highly recommended.

We've been using this dishwasher for about a month now. It's strange to say but it's been tough getting used to using it. If you have all the same size glasses, cups and dishes that are in the instruction manual for how to set them all in to the trays, you will probably be very happy with this machine. However, if you have a variety of dishware that you've collected over the years, the racks don't support glasses and cups very well. For some reason that's beyond me, the middle rack where glass go doesn't have flat bottoms where you would set them in a row to they fall inward. Bowls even a little larger than small salad bowls do not fit well between the pins (I don't know what they call them) so you can feel them bind up when setting them into the lower rack and they don't lay down to create a larger space for larger bowls. This leaves me feeling like any food that gets pinned in, won't get cleaned off. It probably does but... If you must have a Bosch, be sure to get the model with the 3rd top rack. It works really well for silverware or small items. Again, be sure to stack the silverware together, spoons next to spoons, forks next to forks, etc. I should say that it cleans well, as a new dishwasher should, but since it's "energy efficient" it doesn't have a heating element to dry the dishes. It depends on the temperature of the water to make the dishes really hot (130 degrees) so that it evaporates the water off with the absolute help from a drip dry solvent over a long period. Don't use this machine without a drip solvent. What that means; be sure you have your water heater set to 'hot' (which defeats the purpose of being energy efficient) and start the dishwasher before going to bed so the dishes have time to dry. We were told by the Best Buy sales person that the door would actually pop open after it finishes the cycle to help to bring in air for drying. NOT. We had a GE for almost 20 years without a single service call. I don't expect that I'll have any technical issues with the Bosch but, bottom Iine, I should have stuck with GE.

I mean, why do we buy dishwashers? To fill that gap between the kitchen cabinets? To waste huge amounts of electricity, soap, and water? To make obnoxiously loud noises in the kitchen? These are all things that my older, less expensive dishwasher did. We literally had to wash the dishes before loading them in the dishwasher (we called it pre-scrubbing because we were in denial). I bought this Bosch for our family after extensive research, and I mean I looked at a ton of different products in the same price range, read the reviews, etc. before making the purchase. This Bosch cleans the dishes so we don’t have to. I have even put dishes in there that had food residue dried on them and it came off. The only thing it struggles with is cooked-on residue, but I’m willing to take a few seconds to knock that off before loading pots and pans. Other than that, I take the filter out and clean it every couple of days, because there is no hard food disposal, but again, I am ok with that. Compared to our old machine, this is minimal work. It cleans 99% of the dishes with no “pre-scrubbing” required. That alone justifies the product to me, that it fulfills its primary advertised purpose. Other nice-to-haves: it’s quiet. And when I say quiet, I mean I can’t tell if it’s running unless I’m right next to it, except that it shines a red dot on the floor as a visual cue. There is a feature that automatically pops the door open after the cycle ends, to help dry the dishes. The handle is recessed, which in my kitchen setup is necessary because there is no room for a towel bar. The controls are hidden, so my little “helpers” are less inclined to mash buttons and run it randomly or throw off the settings. It is very nice to look at and a nice addition to our kitchen. I installed it myself, and it wasn’t any more difficult than any other dishwasher. The only real con is that there was a bit of a learning curve for me in terms of detergent, drying agent, etc. but that only took a few washes to get straightened out, and that was likely on me for never having owned a legit dishwasher before. I got a great deal buying open-box from Best Buy. YMMV if you go that route. There was no box (just bubble wrap) when I picked it up from my local store, we had to wait a few days for the power cord to ship to us, and the mounting brackets were missing so I had to buy those online (less than $20). It was still a great deal and a few months later we continue to be quite pleased with our purchase.

Well, I've only been using it for 3 days, so I haven't even had a chance to try all the settings, but it's a very good dishwasher so far. It makes virtually no noise, it gets dishes clean, and the third rack is a nice feature. The detergent dispenser door slides open rather than flips open, which is nice because I've had other dishwashers where the dispenser door gets blocked by cookware and then things don't get clean because the detergent pod doesn't fall out and dissolve. If I have any complaint, it's that the middle rack doesn't hold glassware as well as I'd like it to (things get a little wobbly when opening/closing the rack), and at the lowest setting for the adjustable middle rack, the upper sprayer rotor hits my dinner plates.

I purchased this Bosch at the recommendation of family and friends who already have one in their homes and are very satisfied. I replaced a 12 year old Jenn Air dishwasher that was no longer performing. I don’t know why we waited! This unit cleans exceptionally well, is energy efficient, and the only way we can tell it’s on is by the small red light on the bottom right side of the unit that shines down onto the floor. Very quiet. I love the third rack at the top that gives you even more room to wash utensils. I have so much room at the top to wash utensils that I can remove the utensil basket on the bottom rack to make room for more pots, pans, or dinner plates. Definitely gives me options. Was a great help during all of our holiday entertaining! I highly recommend this dishwasher!
