Great dishwasher, but the latch is an issue

We bought this dishwasher based on the positive reviews and also after talking with the associate in the store. I read about the issues with the latch that other customers had, but I thought that it should not be something that happens often. I was wrong. We had the dishwasher installed and happily turned it on for the first time. It could not finish the very first cycle. It stopped and the timer started blinking. There was water inside still and I had to hold the latch of the door until the machine finished the cycle. I had to call Bosch and they directed me to an authorized repair service. It was frustrating that they did not have the "repair kit" in stock and we had to wait until they ordered and received it. They finally fixed the dishwasher by installing some reinforcement to the latch. It works fine now and I am hoping that it will last. Latch aside, the dishwasher is great. I like that it is very quiet. The dishes and glasses are very clean. I don't have a problem with the condensation drying, because I always try to load and run the dishwasher at night. The dishes are clean and dry in the morning.

Basic Sanitizing Dishwasher that cleans very well

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Top rated consumer dishwasher, but reviews stated it was not a good dryer...This is NOT my experience. Even absent a heating element, if you follow the manufacturers directions which tell you to use the sanitize button, use a rinsing agent and use the block detergent, my dishes dry 100 percent better (even plastic) than my old dishwasher with heating element, which was also a consumer best buy only 3 years ago. It was a Maytag quiet series and it stunk on every level...wasn't even quiet. But, THIS BOSCH is quiet, washes extremely well, has a manual filter that is easy to clean, dries completely and has just been a real pleasure to use. The only cons are the long wash time, which is about every dishwasher these days, the fact that the German-made racks are not as deep from front to back as other American-made models. As a family of 5, however, we manage to fill it completely once per day and run it overnight. It's so quiet, I have to put my ear up to it to make sure it's on. It is not heavily feature ridden, which to me is a positive. Some noted in reviews that it would be nice to have a "time remaining" screen, but I find that isn't really necessary. There is also no spring-loaded latch to open and close the dishwasher -- you simply pull to open and push to close. Over time, I wonder if that will be a pro or a con, but for now, it is really easy to open even during a cycle if you want to throw in that one last cup or fork. If I had to strain, I would also add as a con the quality of parts that the dishwasher is made with -- all the plastic components seem very flimsy, but again, this seems to be the case with all appliance parts I saw, even the really expensive ones. The racks are sturdy and the exterior is adequate. Overall, I am rating this excellent and agree that it is a consumer best buy for the quality wash and dry, quietness and price (about $500). Having been without a dishwasher for almost 6 months, I had a lot of time to think about what I needed in a dishwasher, and this one goes above and beyond. I am very pro-Bosch right now. Get out and get one!

I bought this dishwasher and tried to get it installed for about a month. The company that Best Buy uses to do installations is terrible! No customer service. Rude. I could go on and on but the bottom line is never hire best buy installation. Find a different installer.

I've had it for a week and I still can't believe how quiet this washer is! It is easy to use and does a great job of cleaning dishes and pots! I love to cook and this machine has ample capacity to handle larger loads. Dishes come out spotless! I've run both china and crystal through (with fingers crossed) and they came thru fine with the delicate wash cycle.

    Technology has Changed

I bought this dishwasher to replace a not too old Frigidaire that was experiencing a terminal rust problem. Our new Bosch has a nylon rack that looks bulletproof compared to the old rubber coated steel one. Themachine is extremely quiet while operating and best of all the dishes come out clean. The machine does not have the traditional heating element but utilizes convection to dry the dishes thus saving energy. I was a little skeptical at first, but the dishes are 99% dry after the cycle ends. wait an hour and they are fully dry as if it hade a heating element. I love the stainless interior also. Detergent use is half of what our old machine was for the same level of cleaning. I am a happy customer.

Read the Manual = Outstanding Results

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The #1 complaint I hear from people regarding Bosch dishwashers is that they do not dry well. Read the manual; they dry differently than most other dishwashers. The instructions state that if one uses the auto cycle with the Sanitize function along with a rinse aid, then dishes should come out with minimal drying necessary. Also; stick with the recommended loading instructions as best you can. Instead of using the exposed heating element, these use an internal element which performs with the final rinse, (when Sanitize is selected,) on a higher temperature. After the rinse cycle, the element maintains a temperature, but the dishes dry though static evaporation instead of circulated air. Much more sanitary and energy efficient. The other nice thing about this is if anything plastic should fall to the bottom, it will not be melted/warped. There is also an option for an extra dry cycle to be added at the end if you choose. Many do not know that this exists. Most people are opening the dishwasher way too early. Start it before you go to bed. (You won't hear it running.) In the morning the dishes are clean and spotless. --------- Did I mention how quiet this is? Seriously.....they say that a whisper is about 40dB and a conversation is 60dB and this operates at a peak of 51dB. I had to open the door to reassure myself that it was actually operating. VERY Satisfied.

My dishwasher will not clean my dishes. Bosh has sent our two technicians that state the product works however when I show them the dirty dishes and glasses they say it's pre-existing. Further Bosh will not replace or refund me.

I recently bought this dishwasher from my local Best Buy to replace my dead Kenmore. The Kenmore had never cleaned as well as the machine it replaced. I assumed that my results due to the newer machines being built to be energy and water efficient. I was dead wrong. My new Bosch does an amazing job and I couldn't be happier. I recommend this machine unconditionally. It is also very quiet and light making it easy to install.

    Only missing one thing!

I did not give my new Bosch dishwasher 5 stars on the features line for one reason. The only thing this dishwasher does not do is put the dishes back on the shelves in my kitchen. I am hoping....some day. The Bosch is replacing a 43 year old Maytag. The Maytag outlasted all my other kitchen appliances by 8 years. That is a amazing. So when the thing that spins around and splashes the water.... snapped off....it was a sad day. That Maytag was LOUD and slow. It sounded like a freight train in my kitchen and we had to turn the tv to full blast for the four hour wash cycle. But it sure got the dishes clean....but not too dry. Back in the day, they used a lot of water. Like a fire hose up in there. I used it this morning for the first time. Loaded the dishes and fired her up. "you just push the start button and then..........ummmm...and then....um and then you have to refer to the manual". Actually it is quite simple and does have a lot of options. For example you can go to the option mode and set the amount of rinse aid you want to dispense. You can also set it for "Extra Dry Heat" or turn that feature off. The dishes where dry without the extra heat. I did not use the rinse agent stuff. The Maytag did not need it and neither does the Bosch. That is one less thing in my life that I have to worry about. The other thing that was nice is that the dishes where not only clean....but totally dry. That was nice. No more hand drying the tupperware. Friday night (tommorow) we are going to try it out on Beer glasses.

I had it picked up and chose another. Who would think that a dishwasher does not have a heater to dry the dishes. They should include a supply of dish towels in every unit, then. You can dry them by hand!

A Great Dishwasher - But Not a Miracle Worker

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We bought this dishwasher when our 6 year old Kenmore died. As fate would have it, it was on sale with free delivery and installation, so the whole thing lock, stock & barrel cost under $550. Chose this model because Consumer Reports loved it. All in all we're very happy but there are a few caveats. Like all modern dishwashers Bosch claims you don't have to pre-rinse the dishes. Well... sorta. Now, in the Bosch's defense, they want you to use a rinse aid which helps the water to sheet off of the dishes and helps to prevent food from redepositing back on them. For various reasons, I don't want to use a rinse aid, so I've found that in order to get good results I have to either pre-rise or scrape REALLY well (like using a spatula). I don't think this issue is unique to the Bosch, I think all Energy Star machines that use so little water have this issue. I haven't been able to get baked-on food to come clean either, but I suppose that's to be expected. To be fair, I haven't tried enzymatic detergent or using the heavy setting (I've just run it on automatic) so both of those things might help. In terms of drying, I'm quite happy. To qualify that statement, I've never used the drying feature on a dishwasher before because I had a few bad experiences with melted plastic and I also didn't want to expend the energy. But the Bosch turns all that on its head. It doesn't actually have a heating element, instead it heats the water as it enters the machine sort of like an on-demand hot water heater. The drying is accomplished by the stainless steel interior, which acts as a giant condensing plate. The water condenses on the sides, and then runs down where it is pumped out of the machine. The racks are designed more for dishes rather than pots & pans, but I haven't found anything that I couldn't make fit yet. Some reviewers have complained that they thought it was too small... can't really figure that one out - we tend to run out of dishes before we can fill it up! The silverware racks are fantastic... they have little slots to put each piece in so they don't get nested. Also the fact that there is a separate sprayer for the top rack makes loading the thing much easier, because you don't have to worry about stuff on the bottom rack blocking the top one. But the best thing about this machine is how quiet it is. We have a small home with an open design so this makes a really big difference for us. It's not silent - but it's quieter than the furnace or the refrigerator, so I'm very happy. All in all, this is the best dishwasher we've ever owned, but it's still a dishwasher, not a miracle worker.

I love this Bosch dishwasher! I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Plenty of room for all my heavy thick Fiesta dishes. It gets everything clean even my pots and pans. Everything comes out dry except the bottom of my glasses where water tends to pool up inside the deep dimples. Not a problem for me. I love the sanitizing and half load features on this dishwasher. It's nice and quiet so I can wash dishes anytime of the day without worrying about the noise level. Decided to go with black instead of stainless. It goes really well with my other stainless appliances and I don't have to worry about all the water stains and fingerprints. If you decide to go with this dishwasher, you won't be disappointed!

    Does the job well!

I have done my home work. This thing cleans better then by hand. All I hear is the meditative sounds of water splashing about softly as I sit in front of it. I can barely hear at 10 feet away. I have read all the poor reviews to get a picture of what can or could happen. The smell of foul water is the most common. I know for a fact that this is caused by incorrect installation of the drain hose. It should be raised up the 23 inches and then down to the drain. This is done to create an air dam so the sink cannot overflow into DW when there is a clog. The next drawback for some is the rack tines being to close together or incorrect for odd size items. I believe operator error is at play. This washer is European. Simple and well thought out. The next complaint is the fact that you have to manually turn off the unit for the digital screen to clear the Clean light when done. Not an issue for me. I want to know what it is doing and what is done. This model may not have all the options, but it gets the job done. I don't need all the bells and whistles. The Bosch name has a great reputation that continues to outperform the competition. On a side note: I was a little perturbed when the salesman mentioned the installation kit. He said that the warranty could be voided for not using the one they provide for $70. This is so untrue. It would be like saying you need to have new plumbing and electrical in your home too! The kit is just the 90 degree brass fitting, water supply line, and an extension cord . These items don't add up to $70. I think the manager wanted them to push these kits so they can make a ton of money. He tried to feed me some fear. I plan on bringing this up with the manager when I price match and save another $40. I always price match after I purchase a big ticket item and have saved a lot of money in the process. Buy this DW if you want clean dishes. Spend more if you need a quick wash option. I have never heard a verbal complaint from the dozens of Bosch owners I have known. In fact, they have always gone out of their way to mention the positives. I am now another proud Bosch dishwasher owner.

    Great dishwasher

I have had this dishwasher for a little over a month and I love it. It really gets the dishes clean! (I had one from another company that shall remain nameless in order to protect the truly guilty and useless). I can even put in cooking pans and they usually come out clean. It is quiet...sometimes I turn it on and don't realize it is running. You learn to watch the lights on the front. You can pay more for models that are "quieter" but I doubt it is worth the extra money. It is a little difficult to load until you get used to it. As a read in a review somewhere, if you open the door while it is running, you will get splashed because the jets are strong. Easy to learn just to open it a little of a second until it stops, then open it all the way to put something in. Great dishwasher!

I did not know Bosch made dishwashers, but my husband said they have one at his workplace, so we got one, so glad we did, though we paid a little more than what we started out to do; however, we learned a long time ago that you get what you pay for! It has more industrial construction, gets my dishes so much cleaner, they even smell better! it is much quieter; though not 100% silent, significantly quieter than my last machine, which is what we specifically looked for. Even though this dishwasher does not have a dry cycle, (which we did not realize until we had it installed), it STILL gets my dishes almost completely dry compared to my last washer, which i had to run through 2-3 drying cycles to get dishes dry. Just use rinse aid, crack the door for a short time, and the dishes are dry in no time at all. The cycles take alittle longer, but its more energy, water, and detergent efficient, very pleased.

Turns out one feature I always thought was important on dishwashers really is not important at all with this Bosch dishwasher. Delay start is not needed because, unless you get down on the floor and put your ear on the door, you cannot hear this machine operating. Trust me, it will not disturb you in the kitchen or anywhere else so why bother to delay running this machine. Looks to me that it is simply made better than other dishwashers. Take the sound insulation, for example. Instead of loosely wrapping this washer in something that looks like a thin piece of the fiberglass material many of us have in our attics, Bosch first glues on a heavy black rubber like material that seems to absorb vibration. Then on top of that they install a better looking and fitting blanket of fiberglass - 2 good layers instead of one poor layer. Another great feature is the stainless steel interior. BEWARE of units with stainless only on the outside. The inside is where the action is and while stainless on the outside may look pretty - understand that the extra $$$ for a stainless skin is cosmetic, not functional. What a package at this price point. Why pay $750 or more for this quality when you can get it for about $200 less at good old Best Buy with their rewards points thrown in for good measure. Also, Best Buy went the extra mile by price matching what I would have paid at Home Depot for the same item with a military discount. Some merely talk about supporting our troops, in this case Best Buy actually did something to show support.

    Very Small, But Quiet

Very quiet dishwasher, sounds like a small trickling waterfall when running. Dishes come out clean, but the inside does not smell "fresh" yet, maybe a few more weeks?? Racks are very small, about 1.5-2" smaller on each side than most other dishwashers. Was difficult to get used to the size, going from an older Kenmore that seemed huge comparatively. It is a challenge to fit pots and pans and especially large cookie sheets. The tines are very close together on the bottom rack--was told by a salesperson that this is because Bosch is a European dishwasher and dishes there are generally thinner than in the U.S. Not very easy to open, in fact, before installing, we Googled how to open it... we just found the advise of "pull hard". I have a new dishwasher being delivered tomorrow, returning this one.

My last dishwasher was only about 8 months old and came with my new home, but it sounded like a freight train! Not only is this dishwasher beautiful, it cleans everything I put in there and the only way to tell it is running is to stand right in front of it. Why did I wait so long to make this purchase? Lots of settings help you run the right cycle for the load without wasting energy or water. This is a great dishwasher!

We purchased this model to replace a 21-year-old Hotpoint that finally gave out. I love this dishwasher. It is soooo quiet, I have to really get close to even hear it. I have to agree with the other review about the rack placement especially the bottom rack. It definitely does not hold as much as my old one and there is no way to rearrange the racks, only the utensil holder is removeable. It cleans very well, though, which to me is the most important asset. It also looks beautiful in my kitchen. I really wanted one with the controls I could see and not hidden as I read there were a lot of problems with "hidden" controls. Overall, great dishwasher, great salespeople at Best Buy, and great easy installation! Would definitely recommend this product and purchase at Best Buy!
