    Excellent headphones for preventing sleep

Got these as a gift for Christmas. Sound great, noise cancellation work great. Biggest issue with these headphones are the alerts that come through for things like turning on, turning off, connecting to devices, etc. Bose has received thousands of complaints regarding the absolutely obnoxious sound that plays when turning off. If you listen to music or a podcast as you fall asleep or are doing something that requires you to focus for a minute, and the track ends, and you don't do anything for a few minutes, they power off. No big deal, right. WRONG! When they turn off, out of nowhere the headphones play the loudest BAAAAJONG!!!! in your ears that will scare the crap of you EVERY SINGLE TIME. Who designed this??? And WHY??? And after more than year since their release and thousands of complaints about something that is so obvious, why hasn't Bose fixed this simple issue. I don't understand. Another terrible design idea is the bright LED light that's always on when the headphone are in use. Want to relax in a dark room as gentle soothing music draws you into a deep sleep? Don't plan on it with these headphones. The bright white LED will illuminate half your room. And if that doesn't prevent you from falling asleep, your tachycardia will after the "BAAAAJONGGG!!" makes you leap 3 feet off your bed. These had/have the potential to be great headphones. I'm not sure why Bose refuses to address the sound issue. Obviously they aren't using their own product. Lastly, I have problems with connectivity on these. I own all Apple products, and I don't know if the issue is Apple or Bose, but it's not uncommon for these to just randomly disconnect while I'm using them and it takes going and finding my other Apple products and turning off their bluetooth to get my connection back. At this price point, I'm glad these were a gift, otherwise I'd return them..probably for Sony.

    Pearly Whites Got Me

I was debating giving these a test run but when I saw the "soapstone" limited edition I had to do it. So are they a keeper? They survived the parking lot audition (I didn't walk back in to return them) so a promising start. So here's the scoop. (Reference point: I own several headphones including the XM3s which I use in the gym and for walking in the park. I'll only reference other headphones such as the XM3s when there is a contrast or useful example). Comfort: they are fine. The Beyerdynamic Custom Pro Plus I use on my computer are the final word in comfort from what I own but these are good. Connectivity: a few hiccups at first but now they connect fine. I had one "scramble" in the park but other than that they were fine. App: uh oh! Bose promised an EQ (the XM3s have one) but what's here works ok. The app doesn't realize the headphones are connected sometimes but that doesn't affect the operation. Since Bose promised it I feel they should deliver an EQ in the app but I didn't buy these assuming they will anytime soon. Noise Cancelling: I like this feature but to me these and the XM3s are more or less the same. They both cancel noise fine for my purposes. They are better than the others I've tried. Volume: The QC35IIs weren't quite loud enough with my softest music but they were super comfy (only demo'ed in store with my phone). These are in fact loud enough with even my "softest" music. Not quite as loud as the XM3s (but oddly these achieved good volume with all my music, the XM3s have a few albums where I could use more). The one quirk is that the volume goes from "i need a bit more" to "too much" in one step. I'm going to try to get used to the lower volume level. Note: since I have music mastered in the 80s at a lower volume this is an issue for me. The modern pop music is perfectly fine, its those old 80s albums that not all headphones can push to rockin levels. Since its something I look for, I included it here. Sound Quality: this is what we came for. Clear, detailed, thumpy. This is what I like. However the upper mids are a bit much (hence hoping for an EQ). Warmth isn't always there though warm recordings come out that way. Some voices do sound a bit "digital" though. I sense the sound could be fatiguing at times. Note: I haven't "burned them in" yet (if that's a thing, I think it is somewhat but so are the pads loosening up and getting used to the sound signature. For my part I notice after listening to a pair of headphones for a few days I can dial down the volume a bit and highs are a bit more natural. The XM3s out of the box are muddy & bloated to my ears. But their EQ allows them to achieve a really good sound. The Bose 700s sound that good naturally. Note: because of the angled drivers placement on the ears is important. Small adjustments gave noticible improvements. You also will not put them on backwards lol. So far I'm very pleased. I think they are a keeper unless I find a fatal flaw soon.

Not for the faint of heart

Pricey? Definitely. But you can't put a price on complete silence - since buying these, my roommates have given me exactly five (5) heart attacks, simply because I did not hear them coming. The aliens could descend and blow up the neighboring apartment complex and I would still be peacefully watching lectures with complete focus and premium sound quality. I do not recommend these if you are jumpy. I do recommend if you, also, have an aggressive need to completely shut out the train-wreck of a year that is 2020.

    Great headphones with disappointing feature

20 hrs.... only if you aren’t still for 10 minutes. What is not advertised is there is a feature you can’t change or disable on these. If it doesn’t detect any motion after ten minutes it turns itself off. Google “Bose 700 motion” and you will read a lot about disappointed Bose fanatics. People planning on using these for sleep, meditation, travel, conference calls are all finding them useless because of this feature. So far Bose has done nothing about it. If you are die hard Bose, stick with the QC 35. Otherwise look elsewhere. Really disappointed. If Bose changes this feature I will probably buy them again. In their current state... these headphones will be returned.

      Hello QueenBose,

Thank you for leaving your review of the Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.

I am sorry to hear you had issues with the motion-detection feature of the product. This feature was designed to prevent occasions where a user accidentally fails to turn the product off. A motion sensor continually observes movement and when zero movement is detected, the headphones will turn off automatically. This should detect something as faint as a heartbeat in practice, so phantom shut-offs during regular use should not occur.

I will certainly feed this back to our developers, however, and I thank you for considering the Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.

      Kind regards,

They sound really good, the sound control is cool, the app has really cool features but these just wont connect consistently. i owned them for a day and I only got them to work after like 15 minuets of messing around with my bluetooth and bose music app. Dont waste your time on an old product when the sony XM5 just came out
