    Interesting concept, sensitive ears bewarned

I do have fairly sensitive ears as far as pressure and comfort go. Earbuds can always be problematic, so others might be able to wear these the whole night, and on their side, but I could not, even with the smallest earbuds. These are NOT noise cancelling, they are noise masking, playing a limited number of set sounds while you sleep to help you not react to other environmental noises at night. They do a pretty good job at that, I was able to fall asleep with these on and operating. The case has its own battery, to recharge the buds when you are away from power. You have to get the buds in the case just right to charge, but there is a light that comes on to let you know you did get it "just right". They do come with a range of comfy inserts for different sized ears, and the build quality on the case and earbuds themselves is very impressive, much as you would expect from a premium Bose product. The app worked well for its intended purpose, and more functionality supposedly coming in the near future will make these more useful, like the ability to add your own sounds/music.

      Hello Sall,

Many thanks for leaving your review of the Noise Masking Sleepbuds.

I am sorry to hear you are not entirely satisfied with the product.

With regards to the sounds, we have a full library of sounds that can be downloaded via the Bose Sleep app. You are not limited to just 4 as mentioned in your review.

I hope this helps. If you wish to discuss this further, you are certainly welcome to reach out to our support team via the Bose website.

Excellent Product that Helped My Sleep

This is an excellent device for what it does. The price tag might seem high from an outside perspective, but for some it will be very appropriate for a good night sleep. For me, these earbuds worked better than any white noise machine or other earbuds when it came down to drowning out night noises and helping me sleep. It is important to note that these earbuds do not play your own music, just to be clear. It comes loaded with 10 different sounds or tones that you can cycle through and select, such as stream, waterfall, wind through leaves, etc. I found the sounds to be high quality, with different pitches and without noticeable loops. The earbuds are controlled solely by an app that I felt was very clear and easy to use. I appreciated the alarm feature for the earbuds via the app, too. Since I imagine most people will use these night and thus will be using the app at night, too, it was important to make it easy for a groggy person to operate and Bose succeeded. I will note that if you have a sleeping partner that sleeps lightly, they could find it annoying when you turn on your phone in the dark to operate the app. There is simply no other way to control the sound options or volume of the earbuds. The earbuds fit very nicely in my ears. They are quite small and felt soft, but also stayed in my ear for as long as I wanted without falling out or becoming uncomfortable. It comes with three different earbud sizes, and the app helps you determine which size should provide the best experience. I will note that there can be a noise from the movement of the hard plastic on the outside of the earbud as it moves against a pillow case. It isn't outrageous but I did notice it. It also comes with a very nice quality case, as expected from a Bose product. The case made the earbuds easy to charge, and the case was easy to use and operate in the dark. The only issue I had with this product was that they don't shut off automatically, which would have been a nice feature. For example, if you take the earbuds out and place them in the case, they will continue to play all night long or until you turn them off manually via the app. This was more of an annoyance than a deal breaker for me, but I wish that at the very least there was a manual on/off button on the earbuds themselves just to alleviate needing to open the app one more time. Overall, I feel that my sleep has improved noticeably using these earbuds. They don't block out everything, as they are just earbuds after all. But it is hard to beat the combination of performance and comfort. Just be aware of what this product does precisely, and know that you'll need to use the app to control everything. I have really enjoyed using these earbuds and I look forward to better sleep!

    Blocks my snoring spouse

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was hesitant to make this investment mainly due to mixed early reviews, particularly concerning the effectiveness to block noise from a snoring spouse. However a looming out of town vacation with no spare room bed to escape the snoring prompted me to take a chance. I’ve been using the sleep buds for about 10 days and so far they have been a game changer. For the first time in forever I can actually enjoy uninterrupted nights of sleep in my own comfortable king size bed. Most reviewers have agreed that the buds are comfortable to wear. I am a side sleeper and they never feel at risk of falling out, nor is there too much pressure on my ears. They are not perfect though and by the morning I am happy to take them out. As I have already hinted, they work at blocking my wife’s snoring and for that they are worth their weight in gold. I do have a niggling worry that they are almost too good at blocking noise and I might sleep through a future middle of the night emergency. If my kids were still young I probably wouldn’t use them. I read some reviews about trouble connecting the buds to the charging points in the case. I’ve not experienced any problems. Easy to dock the buds and in my view a very clever design. I can understand that they will be a very personal experience and won’t work for everyone but so far these have been a fantastic investment for me.

    Deliver on their promise

The Bose Sleepbuds promise to help you get a good night's sleep (or a decent nap) by masking external noises and providing restful sounds. Let's look at how well they accomplish this goal. First, Bose is very clear about this, but so there's no confusion - these do not play music. They play pre-recorded sounds provided by Bose, and that's it. Out of the box, the packaging is simple and well executed. The charging case is elegant and feels like it's built for the long haul. The Sleepbuds fit perfectly in the case with magnets, and lights indicate that they are in place, charging, and what the case's current charge level is. Pairing with your mobile device is simple, although not intuitive (you have to glance at the instructions). Or, you could just read here: Plug in the case with the Sleepbuds in place; download the Bose Sleep app; remove the Sleepbuds from the case; watch as the app finds them and guides you through setup. This includes selecting the proper silicone fittings for comfort. In order to ensure the units' effectiveness, Bose needed to incorporate battery life for a full sleep cycle. They do not disappoint, lasting throughout the night. The case provides a charge for a second night. You'll notice that the Sleepbuds are much smaller than wireless earbuds, as you want to be able to lie on them without discomfort. With the proper fitting in place (see above), the earbuds effectively and comfortably block external sounds while staying in place as you move around. You'll still hear the smoke detector, but the neighbor's dog should be someone else's problem now. The sounds provided are the standard ones, like campfires and rain. The odd duck here is the inclusion of airplane noise (from the world's quietest jet, apparently), as one use of these would be to block precisely this sound to sleep on a flight. One would hope that Bose will add more sounds to the app, but for now these will work. Just find the one that relaxes you, and you're off. The Sleepbuds are a one-trick pony, and the cost of enjoying that trick is rather high. But they perform the trick admirably. If you have any issues sleeping - at home, on a plane, in hotels, wherever - the price is a small one to pay for solid, consistent sleep.

The perfect size and the most comfortable earphones ever made! The charging case is awesome and I just leave them plugged in next to my bed. The only down side is that they only play the installed noises and you can't listen to any type of music. For the price, with only a handful of sounds, the price is crazy high, That being said if the price isn't an issue, and you are ok with just preinstalled sounds then you will not regret this purchase. I can not restate how comfortable they are.

As my partner is a light snorer, I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this new product. Given the Bose reputation along with my satisfaction with previous products purchased, I was expecting these would be the end of my sleep disturbances. However, there are a few flaws that prevent this from being a top notch product. My biggest issue is that i was expecting these to have at least some level of noise cancellation built in. Not so. These will do a pretty decent job of negating light snoring, but if there's a tv playing, conversation, or a neighbor's dog barking, it's gonna come through. You can crank these up to the maximum and filter out some of the ambience, but i believe true noise cancellation circuitry would have been the better way to go. The sleep buds also have a major annoyance - you have to fiddle with them to get them to work! Just what you want to do when you're ready to crash into bed. They're supposed to engage when you pull them out of the case, but it's hit & miss. If they fail to connect, you need to go through a procedure of re-seating them in the case, unplugging the case, plugging it back in. Sometimes more than once. Fun. Especially when you're dead tired. Maybe this can be fixed with a future update, but for now it's a fail. Speaking of updates, the app went through an update when i first loaded it. You know the feeling you get when your pc freezes on you? Should i wait? Is it still downloading? I didn't clock it, but seemed the update took a good 10 minutes or so, & i'm connected to hi speed wifi. C'mon Bose, add a progress bar! One more issue I had - if you're a side sleeper, with the earbud contacting the pillow, there is some conduction of noise if you move your head - kind of like the scratching you'd get from touching an open mike. On the good side, the fit & build of the buds is excellent. It's the mechanics of it that needs some thought. As they stand, I can't see these helping against anything but some light snoring. It's really not going to do much more than a $50-$75 white noise machine. For $250, you're reaching up to the price point of a good set of noise cancelling headphones or earbuds. Think about it.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your Noise-masking sleepbuds, ferrari. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the fit and build quality of the product. We're sorry to hear that the sleepbuds didn't completely meet your expectations. This model was engineered with noise-masking, as this method was tested to perform best to block out high-frequency sounds. We appreciate your feedback regarding the performance of the masking, as this helps our engineers improve our future products. A progress bar while downloading updates sounds like a fantastic idea, and our product team is always looking for ways to improve the Bose Connect app. Thank you so much for giving the sleepbuds a try, and have a great day. Great Design - But Disappointing In Action

Bose’s Noise-Masking Sleepbuds are amazing in concept and design - but in use, they are pretty worthless. These sleepbuds are like true wireless earbuds - except they do not receive music - they were designed as, for lack of a better term, peace-enhancers. They work in tandem with an app (everything has an app!) that allows you to pass peaceful sounds to the sleepbuds (running water from a stream, crackling of a campfire, waves on the shore, wind, etc.) - they are solely for relaxation and sleep. Naturally, the app includes an alarm feature. You might think that it would be annoying to sleep with something in your ears, but these are incredibly comfortable - surely more comfortable than any earbuds I own - as soon as they are in my ears, I have no consciousness of them being there. The buds charge in a case which also charges - so the buds can be recharged from their case (one time) even when the case isn’t charging. A power adapter and charging cable are included with the set. And because the buds don’t have to communicate constantly with the app, the battery lasts a LONG time. But I’m really disappointed in the functionality of these sleepbuds. Instead of including Bose’s great active noise reduction technology, they threw-in something they call “noise masking” - I’m not even sure if it’s a technology. According to Bose, the peaceful sounds you listen to are generated at (basically) the specific frequencies of snoring and voices and TV that typically interfere with sleep - supposedly, at lower volumes, the brain will choose the louder of the two sound sources (the sleep buds) and will ignore the other source (people). Except I didn’t find that to be the case - to me, external sounds were muffled but still there - I wasn’t aware of any reduction of situational noise other than what I would expect if I put my fingers in my ears. So for a hefty price tag, you get something with incredible design that kinda fails in practice - but they really nailed the comfort part here. I thought these were a great idea but they are quite disappointing.

      Hello VADarkstar,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your review of the Noise-masking sleepbuds. We're happy to hear that found them incredibly comfortable to sleep with. We understand however it did not live up to your expectations. Noise cancellation technology is most effective in environments with lots of low-frequency sounds (airliners, buses, etc). Masking works because of the way different sounds combine in our inners: if they have the right match of frequencies and one ( the masking sounds) is just enough louder than another ( the disturbing sound), your inner ear and brain cannot detect the disturbing sound.

Thank you again for your interest in our Bose products! if you any further questions, please contact Bose Sleepbuds Support.

      Take care,

When I received these Bose Noise Cancelling Ear Buds, as soon as opened the box I was impressed. The storage case is a light weight metal that has a charging connection to the back. To open, the lid just slides back smoothly. Inside, the ear buds have their own little magnetic spot which keeps the buds secure while charging. There are easy step by step directions to connect the buds with your device ( I used my IPhone) which is how you can control the volume. Super duper easy. The ear buds come with a couple of different sizes of bud so you can get the perfect fit. They are really comfortable and stay put in your ears so they do not keep falling out. What I really like is they are cordless so you do not have to worry about getting tangled up in a cord or bothering your partner... even though he’s the reason your using these noise canceling earbuds to begin with!!! Once you are connected, you can see there are 10 different sounds to choose from. I really liked the Rustle, which to me sounded like being in the desert during a wind storm. I also liked the Altitude sound. It took me back to flying on an airplane and the engine noise. Love that! The only negative thing I could say, would be volume control. To really drown a big noise, like the bark all night dog next door, the volume needs to be pretty high. This could affect being able to hear danger noise, like if someone were breaking in. All in all, I think these are great and I would surely recommend them. Thumbs up Bose. You did it again!! This product was it at my disposal without any compensation in order to share my unbiased and honest opinion. Once I complete my testing they will be returned to the manufacture.

Got as a present for hubby. Been using earplugs for years due to his snoring and other sounds easily waking me up. Used to use a white noise machine but he hated listening to it. This was the perfect solution. The sounds of rain and the ocean are the most relaxing sounds to me - which are two of the ones available. The medium ear buds fit nicely. I do not even notice they are there - even lying on my side. The charging case remains on my nightstand - where the buds stay during the day, and remains plugged into power. When ready for bed, I take them out and put them in my ears. Open up the Bose Sleep app. The buds pair up to the app (most of the time) and I select the sounds. I do have some problem with the app trying to find my buds., and it will take several times putting them back into the case, closing and reopening the app etc. The sound of the ocean - the perfect relaxation for me and I find myself falling asleep faster. Sometimes I even have less broken sleep - which for someone with chronic pain, is a blessing. I would say the only con is the intermittent initial connectivity issue - No music is needed - ocean or rain, other water sounds and I am happy.
