The microphone is abysmal; after using this for over a year, there is nothing spectacular about these. The earmuffs have worn out although I do not use this liberally and the silver color has faded out leaving a black layer underneath. The bluetooth crackles sometimes and the wire provided is way too short.

Another Great in the Bose Lineup

These things are amazing. Before conducting this review, I had access to a borrowed pair of the original QC 35s - I can confirm that Bose has worked to make sure that this product matches the same expectations the original pair set. What’s good: If you are reading this review, one can easily guess that you are here for the noise cancelling properties of the headset. They’re fantastic. I work in an open-air office and have the fortune to have an air conditioning vent set to “always on at 100%” right near my desk. The cancellation software in this headset is fantastic. The second you turn it on you can hear the din of the office and that lovely vent disappear to what is pretty close to pure silence. Then you populate the emptiness with the sound quality that Bose has come to be known for with dynamic highs and deep lows, all filled in with just the right amount of bass. To further supplant the noise cancelling functionality of this headset - I regularly get startled by people coming up to my desk while wearing these. Trust me, I’m not that good of an actor and I’m not that ignorant otherwise. It’s very easy to have people start trying to hold a conversation only to realize I’ve heard literally none of it outside of the highs and lows of their voice which frankly hides pretty well within the music. However, it’s what’s new that what really adds to the value of the headset. Google Assistant is now built in. Face value, it means you can press a button and BAM! Google Now on tap. What it really adds though, is the ability to ask for anything and have Google do it. Want to listen to your Spotify Starred playlist? Just say “Play Spotify Starred.” A few short seconds later and Google responds with “Playing playlist Starred from Spotify” and you have blissful music. But there’s more than that. Google Assistant can manage the headset to a degree that you previously would have had to download the Bose app for. Want updates? Already built in. Want to know the battery level? Part of your Android already. The only thing I do not see in its stash of tricks is changing the noise cancelling level. But wait! There’s more that that one button can do. What if you decide that having Google Now on tap is not something you’re going to utilize? You can change the button to change the noise cancelling level - something that I’ve praised one of Sony’s models for having and that I lamented the Bose not having. For the time being, I’ve set my headphones to use the Google integration. I think that I might be changing it soon for reasons to come further down in this review. What’s not: Every product has its own set of weaknesses - the biggest one I’ve come across thus far (which was a problem in the last generation) is that while you can change the noise cancelling functionality, it is only preserved for that session. The second you turn it off or plug it in for charging, noise cancelling goes right back up to high which is a bit bothersome. The settings change mentioned above is pushed by the means of the Google Assistant access method. The outward appearance is that you are talking to yourself with one hand on the left ear muff and suddenly experiencing a sense of joy at seemingly nothing. It’s cool and all, but I don’t need to give my coworkers another reason to add to the list of “reasons why Shawn is potentially insane.” Finally, the software on this version seems a bit slower than the previous generation. Last generation, any action involving headset giving the user feedback was almost instantaneous, with exception to the initial bootup. This generation, some of the interactions take half a second to a second to go “oh right, I’m doing a thing.” Best example is the power off sound - which while it falls into the realm of “who cares,” does take some time from flipping the switch to actually having the device shut down. I’ve had these for a relatively short period of time - so there are some things I can’t say these do any better than the previous generation (or do at all), but the last generation had some performance features that were fantastic that I expect to see again in this model. The best example of noise cancelling I’ve seen has been while flying. I had a seat behind the wing of the plane wherein the noise was immense on takeoff. The second I flipped that switch though, silence. Performance was about expected for loud children on the plane, so I guess your mileage may vary. Finally, there are a few things that are neither positive nor negative but need to be mentioned. The previous generation had come with a nice slot in the case for a headphone adapter for airlines. That’s gone in this generation, but I am not sure if I’m losing anything (seriously, do planes still use those?) This edition continues the trend of the headset having a 2.5mm jack for audio input. It’s not a problem nor a stunning feature, but honestly it just feels like a way to make sure I really feel the cost if I were to lose the provided 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable. The headset also feels lighter. I can’t quantitatively measure that, but it doesn’t feel lighter in a _good_ way. I guess it will help reduce neck strain for long listening sessions though. Ok, decision time. Would I buy it again? Yes - by miles yes. I’ve used other noise cancelling headsets that have not cancelled noise as well, have not sounded as well, and have cost relatively close to the same price. These are fantastic in all regards and while I think the going rate is a bit high, I’ve gotten significant value out of the functionality they have provided.

I am a big fan of Bose from headphones to speakers and have been using them extensively for quite a few years. I have the Bose SoundLink around ear which I absolutely love. I wanted to try a noise cancelling headphone but the experience was pretty bad. The noise cancelling sound managed to give me a headache within 10 min every time. It was so bad that I had to return it in a few weeks.

      Hello BigLou,

Many thanks for leaving your review of the QC35 II noise cancelling headphones.

I am thrilled to hear you have enjoyed the sound quality of the headphones, but I'm sorry to hear of the headaches you have been experiencing. This may be an effect of the 'pressure' sensation that is common to all noise-cancelling headphones. It certainly affected me when I first started using them, but after a while you learn to get used to them, and any discomfort will no longer bother you. Please continue to use the headphones, I'm certain this sensation will go away soon enough.

If you wish to speak to a member of our team, you are welcome to reach out via the contact page of the Bose website.

Many thanks again for your review, and for being a Bose customer.

      Kind regards,

I loved these headphones when I purchased them. It's only been 2.5 years since I've had them, and the pads are already wearing off. For how expensive these headphones are, I would have expected them to last a lot longer. Great sound quality and noise-canceling.

I purchased this product prior to a long distance trip. It lasted halfway, for a grand total of 3 days until the right headphone started crackling. I'm disappointed that bose would sell something so expensive that has poor build quality. During the very short time it worked, the noise canceling was effective.

Bass didn't dial in for me. Mids were midiocre. Brought them back and returned them. if you want good headphones get beyerdynamics dt 770 pro. Sure, they are corded, but I put them on a portable amp and they rock, even off of the amp the 32 ohm pair rock pretty good, just with the amp it gives you more headroom.

The Bose QC35 Series II Headphones bring all the amazing sound quality and noise cancelling you had in the last incarnation with some nice new features. One of the biggest improvements is the ability to control the amount of noise cancelling via the Bose Connect app or via the new action button. This makes it easy to reduce noise cancelling when you want to be able to have some awareness of the sounds in your environment, but don't want to keep pulling your headphones off over and over again. The most important new feature in these headphones, however, is the integration of Google assistant. When you press and hold the new action button, you can begin to give commands to your connected device. Just a few examples of this: "OK Google, Play Music or Call Home, or Read my text messages" etc... There are many, many possibilities and this really increases what you can do without having to pull out your phone. Design and comfort are as expected, fantastic. Earcups are very soft and I experienced no fatigue or discomfort after usage for a few hours. The overall build quality is excellent, and see to be built to last.
