The Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra 2 earbuds have some pretty nice features, and they has become my favorite earbuds to use when I’m at work. They have good battery life, a decent amount of customization, and a comfortable fit. However, there are some drawbacks—like wind noise cancellation, case and earbud size, and removing / replacing the earbuds from and to the case.
The Bose earbuds come with the medium-sized rubber fitments already installed on the earbuds. Large and small sizes are also included in the packaging. For me, the medium size seemed to fit well and are comfortable. The Bose app allows you to check the “seal” against your ear and provide advice if the fit is good for the noise cancellation and immersion features. The app indicated that the medium sized fitments were the best for me. On extensive walks, the earbuds are secure in my ear and did not need adjusting. I have not tried them yet while cycling, but based on the way other earbuds have felt in my ear, I do not think these will have a problem staying secure, with an “every now and again” double-check (because I’d hate to accidently lose an expensive earbud). I’ve had the earbuds in for as long as almost six hours continuously without any discomfort.
I do think the Bose earbuds are a bit large, especially compared to my coworker’s AirPods. They stick out of my ears noticeably more, but it is not offensive. Accordingly, the case is also on the large side, but still small enough to fit in a pocket without issue.
Removing and replacing the earbuds from and to the case is nothing short of horrible. I have been using these earbuds for almost a week and I still cannot find a way to remove the earbuds from the case with one hand. In addition, there is a very particular way to grasp the earbuds to remove them without fumbling and dropping them or having them plop back into the case. Putting them back in the case is equally as aggravating, as it is difficult to see the proper orientation and they often don’t go in all the way on the first try. Very poor execution.
Sound quality is what most people consider for earbuds, and these Bose QC Ultra 2 earbuds do not disappoint. I am most impressed by the Immersive Sound feature. When I first set it up, I was literally blown away with how the earbuds simulate the direction of the sound. Playing music from my phone and looking at my phone, I would swear the music is coming from the phone. And if I glance up to my computer, I would swear the music is coming from there. I have never experienced anything like that before. The noise cancellation is mostly amazing. I work in a busy office setting and these earbuds can completely drown out external noise when I am listening to music. For podcasts, most of the background noise is drowned out, but not completely. Outdoors, the background noise is reduced, but certain sounds still come through—which for me, is good, because there should be some awareness of background noise during most outdoor activities I participate in. I have yet to find an earbud algorithm that drowns out wind well while walking, running or cycling. This set of earbuds does it better than most, but it is still marginal. Bass and treble response are really nice, and both music and voice come across very rich and crisp.
In the app, there is the ability to add customized modes. In addition to the 3 standard ones (quiet, aware, and immersion), I set up one for work and one for running (you can’t change the description). In each of the custom modes, you can adjust the amount of noise cancellation. In the app, you can select which modes are your favorite, and then you can change between favorite modes using (in my case) the left earbud. I personally do not use the Aware mode because I find it deafening, especially with wind. Instead, I use the custom “running” mode with a specified amount of noise cancellation. The equalizer has much to be desired, as there are only three settings (low, normal, high) for three frequency ranges. I would hope a future software update addresses that.
The touch sensors on the earbuds work really well for changing modes and for play / pause, track advance, phone answering, etc. Other earbuds don’t execute this well, so this very well designed system was quite welcoming.
Battery life was about 5.5 hours with near-constant use. The case charges the earbuds quite quickly and the earbuds can be charged a few times with the case before the case needs recharging. The app shows the charge status of the earbuds and the case, which is convenient.
For connectivity, the earbuds can be paired to two devices at a time, but you can have it “remember” well more than two devices. When you put the earbuds in your ears, they indicate what devices are paired at the time. I’ve had no issues with the earbuds changing between devices—specifically, my computer and my phone. It is seamless.
This might seem like a minor consideration for some, but it’s really nice for me. When using Microsoft Teams and joining a meeting, the earbuds will chirp once in each ear to let me know that Teams has recognized the earbuds and will be using them for the call. When the meeting is over, the earbuds indicate that the call has ended. Both of these are minor, but really nice touches!
Overall, I am happy with the Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra 2 earbuds. They have replaced the earbuds I have been using for the last few years because of the better sound quality, the significantly better noise cancellation, and an app that is actually useful. Even though they are a little large and a bit cumbersome, the well designed features make them my top choice.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your feedback. The battery life of the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) is as follows: Immersive Audio Off: Up to 6 hours Immersive Audio On: Up to 4 hours Charging Case (fully charged): Provides up to 18 additional hours
These are the advertised specifications. Since they are in-ear earbuds, they are naturally exposed to sweat. However, there's no need to worry, they are rated IPX4, meaning they are water-resistant and can handle sweat and light splashes.

These are the best AirPods that I have bought. The noise cancellation is amazing. I travel for work and it is amazing to be able to hear my music or movies.

These ear bus for being so expensive was not working out the box. I get i needed to update, but even then constant disconnects or odd behavior when swapping from Windows laptop to android is a pain. They sound amazing when they do work i give it that. But honestly, i should not have been frustrated and chosen instead my 4 dollar dollar tree earbuds that i bought as an emergency one day to be able to talk and hear in a meeting. The battery life is horrible. I ended up getting new ear muffs for my 4 year old Bose quite comforts instead as this honestly was just not doable to work full time with.
