Furthermore, the good news is that the level of noise cancellation can be adjusted using the Bose app to better match your listening preferences:
Quiet Mode: Maximum noise cancellation to help block out distractions.
Aware Mode: Lets you hear your surroundings while listening to audio.
Custom Modes: Create up to two personalized modes with your preferred noise cancellation or wind-blocking settings.
Note: The headphones default to Quiet Mode when powered on, but you can use the Bose app to have them start in the last mode used instead.

The noise canceling function makes me nauseous, and the aware mode makes for some strange feedback if you're doing anything that makes noise. Hammering a nail in while using these in aware mode scared the crap out of me.
