Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the exceptional sound quality, ease of use, and impressive bass of the Smart Soundbar 600 with Dolby Atmos and Voice Assistant. Many appreciate its convenient size and straightforward setup process, although some experienced connectivity issues and found the price to be somewhat high. The user experience with the app and remote control also received mixed feedback. While some praised the sleek design, others found the remote control less intuitive and the app somewhat problematic.

Thank you for posting. Dolby Atmos is a gamechanger for bringing theater-like immersion into your living room. While the library is growing, most content is not Atmos-encoded, yet. This is why you are not experiencing it from the soundbar. If you have further questions, just reach out to us here. https://bose.life/3UXLDwp. We would love to help.

      Hello Anthony,

I'm surprised you had trouble with the Soundbar after the update, and I understand that is the reason you returned it. Should you decide to try again want to start the set up process from out of box at any time. I'd recommend performing a factory reset following the instructions here https://bose.life/3EWMNBC as that will let you start fresh.

Of course, we'd love to help if you need, it please contact us https://bose.life/38DNELy to get started.

Bose is the king of getting large sound from a small package, and this sound bar is no exception! I hooked this bar up to my TV super simple with only 2 wires. 1 is the power wire, the other is the HDMI cable. It took me a little while to get everything up and running at first, so I did the old standby trick of just unplugging everything, the TV, the WiFi, and the Soundbar, waiting a minute, turning it all back on again and then everything synced up nicely. I watched a few movies, and some Online videos, and I switched back and forth between my TV built in speakers, my surround sound system, and the Bose sound bar, and while the soundbar couldn't compete against my 5.2 channel surround system, it did crush the built in TV speakers, and it did a great job of mimicking the surround system, while sitting nice and neat right in front of the TV barely taking up any space, where as my surround system has a separate AV receiver, lots more wires, 5 large speakers, and 2 huge subwoofers. I Say that's a win for Bose! 80% of the sound, while taking up 5% of the space! One issue that I do have with it is that if I'm not using it, it shuts itself off automatically after a few minutes, which wouldn't be an issue except it also turns off everything connected to it through HDMI... That wouldn't be a problem for most people unless they hook up multiple systems together like I have mine set up. I ended up just unplugging the soundbar when I'm not using it as my main source. 1 other thing that is kind of annoying is that the bar is only usable from my phone if I go through the app. I can't use it like a blue tooth speaker. When I try to link directly to it through blue tooth I get the message that it's only usable through an app. The app is pretty cool though, and it lets you link your various music playing apps like Pandora etc. Overall I really like the Bose smart soundbar 600, and I can easily recommend it for it's powerful performance, great sound quality, and minimal space needed to set it up.

      Hey Chris,

It's so great to hear that you're impressed with so many aspects of your new Smart Soundbar 600. I appreciate your patience when setting up the product and performing the reset to resolve any minor issues you had!

Regarding the auto power off, you can adjust this within the Bose Music app under the product Settings. Under the Power section, select Standby Timer. You can then set this to Never so that your soundbar does not power off when in use.

It's also strange that you're not able to connect to your speaker through Bluetooth without the app. You should be able to put the speaker into Bluetooth mode by using the Bluetooth button on the remote. Then, go to the Bluetooth settings on your device and select the soundbar.

If you have any trouble with the above steps, please do not hesitate to reach out to our customer support for further assistance - https://www.bose.com/en_us/contact_us.html.

      Thanks,

There’s no doubt Bose knows sound. The Soundbar 600 continues Bose’s legacy of creating compact speakers that punch above their weight. Using the eARC port and setting the TV to passthrough mode lets the Soundbar 600 do its thing of delivering crisp, sharp audio. TV from a cable box or antenna is broadcast sub-optimally at best. This results in bass that’s mild unless you add the optional subwoofer to the speaker system. But, watch a program from streaming app (especially one with Dolby ATMOS) and you’ll forget that you don’t have a subwoofer. You can further customize the soundbar via the free Bose Music app. The app has some rudimentary controls for bass, treble, center speaker and height channel. That last setting is especially useful for adjusting background or ancillary sound. For example, in an action scene, you can enhance the rumble of helicopters or tanks. In a dining scene, you will better hear the stirring of a coffee cup. By punching the height channel up, the sound feels more resonant. Where Bose could do better is in its integration with the built-in Alexa and Bose’s own Voice4Video. Enabling Alexa is straightforward via the Bose Music app. Once set up, the soundbar will act like an Amazon Echo in that you can control Alexa through the soundbar. You can also then integrate connections to other Alexa compatible devices in the home. However, one annoying aspect of the Alexa integration is that the volume of Alexa is loud compared to any source you ask Alexa to play. You’ll find yourself adjusting volume constantly, and there is no way to reduce Alexa response volume by itself. The Soundbar 600 also has a new feature from Bose called Voice4Video. This feature will let you use Alexa to turn your TV off/on, and tune to a station on your cable or satellite box. Unfortunately I was unable to get this to work for my Xfinity cable box. It may be early in Bose’s rollout of supported boxes, and hopefully my box will be compatible soon.

Good Soundbar but Better with a Subwoofer

For my review of this Bose Smart Soundbar 600, I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Out of the box the installation of this soundbar to my TV was very straight forward. Attach the power cord then to an A/C outlet, then HDMI Audio Return Channel to the soundbar. Then download the Bose Music app to your smart device and then pair the soundbar to the app. What I did find upon the final set-up was that the soundbar has no message window to tell you the selected input source or the volume level. I do have some issues with the volume level showing upon the TV screen. Sometimes it will display and other times it won’t. Even the app itself has no volume level scale which I hope will be fixed in a future app update. The app does have some great features to allow for the output level customization of the center channel, height channel, base and treble. The dialogue mode setting has to be one the better features I’ve seen on a soundbar. It just doesn’t increase the treble but increases volume across a broader 1K Hz frequency output. The app does support the addition of music streaming apps such as Spotify, Amazon Music, deezer, iHeart Radio, pandora, SiriusXM, Apple AirPlay, Chromecast, and Tunein. Sound is produced by 5-speakers, 1-left side, 1-right side, 2-upward firing supporting ATMOS, and 1-center channel. The sound produced via music streaming is very crisp with a fair amount of base and separation. As for TV streaming, I watched “Dune” that possesses Dolby ATOMS. The movie audio did fill the room but was lacking in both base and separation. If you are going to do a lot of movie watching, I would recommend the addition of a subwoofer. I hope you enjoyed reading this review and it helps you in your purchasing decisions.

I will starr with the end and say I definitely recommend this soundbar. And if you don't want/like too much, this will be sufficient. If you want more and don't mind buying the sub seperately, get 'em. This soundbar is a very small form factor, considering. And light (as in not heavy). Setup is pretty quick. Follow the directions. Put the app on your phone. Like it tells you, make sure the tv and the app arw on the same wifi network. You will see on the app, that you can use it as a remote control (power, volume, source, etc), to equalize the sound, and other settings. In the app, you can also connect to specific music streamers, such as Pandora, Amazon Music, Spotify, etc. The soundbar itself is not only light in weight but also light in visual response. There is a light bar the flashes slow, medium, stays steady, flashes with a push of a button, appears as a different color during setup, etc. It is a linear light. That is how you know younare doing anything. The soundbar actually sounds super amazing. It is so crispy clear!!! It will have you like, "wow!" The clarity of the sound from the soundbar is amazing and, to me, the best thing about it. Also, surprisngly, for a standalone sounbar, it gives some good base. Again, I mean for what it is. If you arw heavily into sound like me, you would still want a sub. But rhis thing puts out nicely decent base. It differs by source though. When watching tv and Netflix, the base is present and surprising and nice. However, with regular music via bluetooth, the base is not present. I don't know why it's different (maybe HDMI Arc vs bluetooth?... I don't know). I should also mention, as is pretty well known now, connecting via HDMI Arc allows your tv remote to control the soundbar. You can also comnect vIa optical cable if you choose but then the tv remote can't contol the soundbar. Nonetheless, the box contents include cables for both. I ahould also mention, and this is just sone side info, that I had problems keeping this sounbar connecred to my tv. My tv is a *rhymes with Bambung* and did not like to stay connected. I strongly believe this was a tv issue and not a soundbar issue. With all that was just said, customer service was great in helping me to troubleshoot. As I stated before, I highly recommend this soundbar.

I was really interested to see what Bose could do when it comes to Dolby ATMOS, especially with such a small footprint. While there is a noticeable difference when you feed the soundbar an ATMOS signal, the smaller form factor definitely has its limitations. I would say that a 50 inch TV is the limit to pair with this soundbar, and it does best in a smaller space with side walls to reflect sound. This really comes down to the lack of stereo separation due to the Bose 600's physical size. The sound quality is great and a huge step up from any TV speakers. Voices are nice and clear without being overly separated from the rest of the sound. The upward firing speakers do a good job of adding height to sound, albeit in a relatively narrow stage. With ATMOS content you are able to perceive objects moving up and down the screen, the opening scene for 6 Underground on Netflix is a good showcase for this with the propeller sounds. Overall, I'm very happy with the sound quality and ease of control the Bose 600 offers for a limited space situation, but I would likely purchase a larger model and a sub to use as my primary setup.
