Disappointment

I have had to call tech several times and now they coming to replace it. Not the way to start of with a new TV and New Bose soundbar.. Not a happy camper.

Absolutely the best soundbar we've ever had.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We installed the Bose Soundbar 900 in our living room and were immediately impressed. The Bose replaced another soundbar with a subwoofer. After going through the Adaptiq setup, we listened through several shows and a movie and were surprised at the clarity of audio - particularly dialog as well as a surprisingly strong bass response considering we have not attached a subwoofer to the setup yet. While moving around the room with the Adaptiq headset was an odd experience (and the long cable was easily tangled up with itself), the result was impressive - we clearly heard subtle sounds we hadn't heard before. We could clearly hear the faint rustling of clothing during a musical number, for example. The app required for setup is minimal, but gets the job done. I would recommend turning off the standby timer - our TV didn't always wake the soundbar from timeout. Otherwise, setup was completely straightforward using an HDMI cable for an ARC connection. We didn't try the optical cable. We weren't even aware that the Bose soundbar could also be used as an Amazon Alexa (or a Google smart speaker). We were able to move the Echo Dot we had in the living room to another room and get massively improved sound from our new living room smart speaker. It's no surprise that Bose turns out the best sound we've ever gotten out of a soundbar. I was pleasantly surprised by the bass response without a subwoofer, though we will probably pair the 900 with a wireless subwoofer eventually just to give it a little extra kick. Bottom line: This is far and away the best soundbar we've ever had and that's comparing it to other soundbar/subwoofer combos that were in the same price range.

Upgraded from a mid-range soundbar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a mid-range soundbar that has a 4.8 star rating at Best Buy. It was a 3.1.2 channel Dolby Atmos soundbar with subwoofer that I got on sale for about $400. It was a pretty darn good soundbar for the price. Then I upgraded to the Bose Smart Soundbar 900 and man... as good as my previous soundbar was, this one is flat out amazing. It has better clarity, wider range, bigger bass (even without a subwoofer!), and just an overall more satisfying sound when watching shows and movies. It's nice for music too! I know some people say the bass is lacking and you should purchase the an additional subwoofer, but thats totally subjective, and for me, its perfect out of the box. I wouldn't want any more bass than it provides. But I'm also not the type of person that wants bass that shakes you to your core. And like I said earlier, this has stronger bass than my previous soundbar which included a separate subwoofer. 100% recommend this soundbar especially if you can grab it on sale or refurbished direct from Bose (which is what I did).

Awesome sound quality

The design is sleek and modern. I didn't know what to expect with the setup, but it was surprisingly easy. You just take it out of the box and connect the cables. The Bose app is really helpful in setting up the rest. I was able to set up Alexa with it and love that as well. It was up and working in less than a minute. The ADAPTiQ is a great feature especially for my situation because I live in an apartment. It optimizes the sound from the speakers to fit your room. There's a device that you connect to the sound bar when you are first setting it up that you wear and Bose has you go to 5 different locations in your room and optimizes the sounds via location. I can definitely notice a difference when I don't have the ADAPTiQ on. Dialogue Mode is another feature that makes a big difference in the sound. It enhances the dialog in movies, tv shows, etc. I noticed that the voices are crisp and very clear. I like to have it on when I'm watching movies mostly. I think this sound bar is great and will make an excellent addition to anyone's home theater system.

The Bose Music app allows you to easily set up your soundbar and access the Wi-Fi enabled features. If you did not want to use these features, you can just plug the speaker in and play your TV’s audio.
Regarding the bass, we have some great EQ options in the app, to change the levels for your needs. It sounds like you have already found these settings, but to be sure you can find it in the Bose Music app under Audio and explore the bass, treble and center console levels there.
Included in the many features of this soundbar is Bose Voice4Video. In addition to controlling the Smart Soundbar 900, you can turn on and control your TV, cable, or satellite box with just your voice. One simple ask to Alexa and you can jump to your favorite station, even if your TV was on a different input.

Absolutely Amazing

I replaced my 300 with this and the difference is night and day. I also have the surround speakers that work great with this.I watched a Dolby Atmos movie last night and helicopters were flying overhead and bullets were wizzing by my head. Even my wife, who was against the upgrade, was extremely impressed. Now for the crazy part. When I checked the Bose App it did not show it was in Atmos. Turns out the stream service I was using didn't support it. So this soundbar does what it says it does. It makes non Atmos into Atmos which is insane. I can't imagine this could be better with and actual Atmos movie but can't wait to find out. By the way, a child could set this up so anyone who complains about the setup is lying.

Incredible surround sound

I am duly impressed with Dolby Atmos too, since this single device does an astonishing job at simulating movie theater sound. I initially thought that I would need to supplement the soundbar with a dedicated woofer, and indeed this is an option. However, there is plenty of bass punch from this unit by itself, and so I am going to hold off on getting additional speakers for now. Setup is mostly intuitive, but I would recommend reading the directions, and familiarizing yourself with the Bose App that acts as a controller. Once set up, there is also a simple remote control for volume adjustments, so that you don’t have to use the app for most daily tasks. Bluetooth and network connections allow for streaming from the web or any connected device, and this works very well. (I reviewed this product as part of the Best Buy Tech Insiders program.)

Excellent Sound but combability issue with LG C1 T
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have purchased Bose soundbar 900 along with Base module 700 and surround speaker 700 directly from BOSE. Installation is not complicated; just connect the TV with HDMI cable supplied by BOSE to the eARC port, install Bose music app and follow the instruction step by step. Soundbar 900 has only one HDMI-in port and cannot connect to multiple device other than the TV. It do not do any upscaling also. They sound really great but soundbar 900 having a serious combability issue with my 2021 LG TV model C1. Soundbar 900 getting frozen while changing TV channel with the TV remote (TV is connected with optimum AlticOne mini set top box with HDMI 2.1 cable); only way to recover from it is unplug the soundbar from power and re-plug in. TV does not get frozen, it is the sound bar. I contacted Bose technical support; they were very helpful; and sent me a New replacement. But the replaced soundbar also having the same problem. Bose tech support spent hours with me and tried different settings; swap new HDMI and optical cables but nothing resolved the problem. It may be HDMI CEC conflict between two newest product in the market. By the way, this 2021 77" LG C1 OLED TV have no issues with my old soundbar from a different brand. I love the sound this soundbar can produce together with base module and surround speakers. It does not have any issue with Bluetooth music from my phone or built-in music streaming apps like Spotify or Amazon music. It have no problem with TV tv built-in apps like Prime Video or Netflix. Only issue it is having when you are watching TV channel using set top cable box and try to change the channel. I do not want to return the whole system as I have 90 days return window from Bose; I hope Bos will found the problem and fix the issue with a firmware update.

Excellent Soundbar with Atmos Support

I've been using the soundbar for about a week in my living room with my 55" OLED TV, and it's replacing a older 2.1 sound system. Out of the box, setup was simple. Connected my soundbar to my TV's ARC HDMI input (my OLED does not have eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel), only ARC (audio return channel), as part of the HDMI... more on that in a minute), powered it on, and connected it to my network. To setup the soundbar, you need to download the BOSE music app. Doing this walks you through step by step on how to connect the soundbar to your TV, get it connected to the network and to do acoustic sound tuning through the included audyssey headset. On playing TV and Movie content via my streaming device, sounds were immersive and fantastic. For me, I can audibly tell the difference between content coded in Atmos and older audio content that supported only 5.1 or 2.1 LPCM output. Atmos is significantly immersive. Eventually I would like to pair the soundbar with rear satellite speakers and a dedicated subwoofer, but for now, the soundbar itself is a significant improvement over my older setup and blows my TV speakers out of the water in terms of quality, clarity of dialogue, etc. Other things to note: The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is one of the lowest profile soundbars that I've used. It actually sits lower than my OLED TV on my entertainment center and doesn't block the bottom of the screen. My TV sits on top of a corner entertainment center in my Living Room, and is not mounted on a wall, so this was very important to me. If you have your TV mounted on a wall, or are planning to wall mount the soundbar, then this is probably less significant. I had to play around quite a bit with my setup to eliminate lip sync, in that the audio was playing behind the video. This is not the fault of the soundbar, but a common complaint with owners of some OLEDs. My TV does not have eARC as an output, which, when combined with the eARC on the soundbar, is supposed to automatically reduce or eliminate this. With an ARC HDMI connection, you need to manually mess around with settings. Ultimately I was able to correct this by eliminating any artificial lag on my Nvidia Shield streaming device (it has a setting), reducing lag on my TV (it has a setting), and adding 10ms through the Bose Music App. If you have a newer TV (released in the last 1-2 years) that supports eARC, and use this soundbar, I believe you won't have to manually change settings. Or you may not be sensitive to the lip sync like I am. I just found it distracting until I corrected it. Another thing that I liked about the app... it tells you the format of the audio stream that is playing. So you can see if the movie, tv show, etc. is playing Atmos, 5.1, DD +, or LPCM 2.0 content. The soundbar can be wall mounted, but I did not need to do this for my setup. Overall, I really like this for the sound that is played, and I am also able to use CEC functionality which allows me to control the soundbar volume with my TV remote (a Harmony remote), or via app. You don't need to use the included Bose Remote, which is perfectly functional. I prefer to just use a single remote to control everything, and I can. Overall, this is a great soundbar and one that allows for expandability if you want to later pair it with a subwoofer or satellite speakers. Over time, I expect to do this myself, but for now I will enjoy the great and clear sound from the soundbar itself.

Never works

It always disconnects from the tv… the bluetooth now isnt even worming after 1 month of ownership. Requires internet to set up with is ridiculous. That alone causes more frustration when setting up. We will be returning this tomorrow and going with something more reliable.

Requires Hard Shutdown Often

The soundbar often requries a hard shutdown by having to unplug it. This has been required about three to four times a month. The optical auto detect works about 50% of the time. Boss quailfy has clearly slipped and they have become just another overpriced speaker.

Bose, continues to impress

The changes made to the design of the soundbar with placements of the additional sound ports really enable it to fill a room. The room tested in is fairly large and it really complimented the room placed in. The various sound option now available that were not in previous models is great. Dolby Atmos seemed to be easily discovered and utilized from various streaming entities when avail. Voice4Video is one of my fav’s as it allows control of the devices I use every day using my voice from turning on a show or film, to even streaming music. Sound clarity has gotten better to include the surround sound feeling for using only the bar alone.

The bose soundbar 900 unfortunately was a bad experience. I got the system to work twice. Thats it. Found the system to be too complicated. I ultimately returned it and started my search for another system.

Great Sound

Bose sound quality is one of the best and this lives up to its reputation. Fills the room really well. App connects to soundbar allowing easy connectivity to music apps and selecting input. Will be able to connect to satellite rear speakers and a subwoofer. Looking forward to this becoming available and will rival any surround sound system out there. Setup was a bit complex and I’m still trying to get this to be controlled by my TV volume like my much less expensive sound bar did. I spent over an hour trying to get this configured but am confident it eventually will connect.

Two of the three worked for a few hours then failed to sync with the TV. Unfortunately Geeksquad could not get the Bose 900 to work so we returned all three and went with another brand/sound bar.

After many years Bose is still the leader!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually was going to go with the JBL 9.1 but at the last minute decided to get the Bose 900 and am I glad that I did. I am an Army vet with bad hearing and listening to the center speaker that produces the voice sound was like being healed of my hearing loss. I can understand every word that is spoken and with no hearing aid. this did not take away from the deep bass sound of action movies nor the rain sounds and music. Bose has been the leader in sound since I don't remember when and this sound bar, sub and rear speakers proves that they are not ready to relinquish the lead. This piece of equipment is just AWESOME!!
