Unfortunately, the corporate drive for profits and relentless cost cutting means quality control and customer service are afterthoughts... Boeing comes to mind here Twice I ordered an open box Bose speakers which are supposed to be in "excellent condition', which means all original parts and accessories are included, but twice I received speakers without a power cord and I had to return it. Very disappointing

You are correct, the Home Speaker 500 does need to be connected to a power outlet to work, as it is not a portable speaker.
However, if you like how the Home Speaker 500 works but would prefer the speaker to be battery powered, then definitely check out our Home Speaker Portable! It's also a Wi-Fi connected smart speaker and does have an internal battery so you can take it with you!

Quick and Untimely death

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially wouldve given higher rating but ive had it only 3 weeks, never have it above 60-70% at its loudest and now it crackles and rattles with any bass. Like a speaker blew and its not even a full month old. Im out the money already so ive contacted bose to see about repairs but the fact theres ANY issue this soon out the box with occasional use is concerning . I used to think of Bose as quality product and this experience leads me to believe otherwise now.

Alexa All Pumped Up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using the Bose - Home Speaker 500 for about a month now and I feel confident recommending it to anyone who is considering buying it. While it might seem pricey to some, it has sound unparalleled by other Alexa enabled devices that I've listened to. The sound is full and rich with moderate but not quite stellar bass. Considering the size of the device and its' location in my dining area, I'm very impressed with how well it sounds. Given that I've not used an Alexa enabled speaker in my home before, I was pleasantly surprised with how much use I got out of the device beyond just listening to music. My kids who are in elementary and Junior High school loved being able to ask questions for school and just for curiosity on the fly. They also enjoyed the Alexa enabled games and trivia. I was able to link Pandora and amazon Music which gave me a diverse list of music to listen too. The pt device is relatively small considering and once I was able to connect it to my wifi network it is has stay connected without issue since. It connected to my Nexus 5x via bluetooth with out problems using the Bose app. If you are considering purchasing the device and you are hesitant, go ahead and take the dive. If the cost isn't prohibitive my guess is this is the best device of it's kind out there.

Good Sound Quality, Terrible Technology

However, if you're looking for features, you should think twice about purchasing this. First...while it says it supports Google Assistant, that is only partly true. You can not use this to stream music from any of the Google services. They seem to want to force you into a subscription to some obscure 3rd party service. Second...you can stream via bluetooth, kinda. It is difficult to set up, and often takes 3 or 4 times to connect to my S10. I've been unable to get other devices to connect to it. Third...even the aux in port is meh. Using a cord that I use for another setup, I noticed significant sound quality loss. If you only have one device that you would like to keep paired 24/7, this might be an overpriced option that works for you.

Sorry to hear that you've returned the speaker. You can certainly enjoy music from YouTube through the speaker via many different connection methods. The speaker features an auxiliary input for wired connections, and also Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and even AirPlay 2 for wireless connections!

Amazing sound for small device

Whilst your speaker is actively connected to WiFi, it will show available to use in the Bose Music app. Any interruption or interference to this connection may result in a drop out. I'd advise to relocate the system closer to the source of WiFi if needed - to improve signal.
