This small unit packs a big punch and is cable of providing good sound in my open floor plan house. I'm sure it would sound even better in an enclosed room, but by far it is the best soundbar I've ever owned. I previously had Pioneer & JBL soundbars... Do yourself a favor and get the Sub-woofer to complete the experience!!!

We had some glitches at the beginning with the speaker cutting out when the phone that started the music app left the room, Bose did an update and it's now fixed. Overall we are pleased and really like it, the sound is slightly less great then I expected and we find the app a little cumbersome, but other than that, it's really good. A bit expensive for what you get, but then again, it's Bose.

The sound is amazing, as always, the connection process, that’s a different story. It takes way too many steps, to get it connected to the tv, pair with the phone, etc., quite a pain. Once everything is finished, it’s great. This will not stop me from buying Bose products, but come on, simplify the process, I shouldn’t need an app to connect a sound bar to my tv!!!

I bought this sound bar with the optional woofer and surround speakers. I did look at the 700 but did not want to spend the additional money. The 500 is an excellent system. Great sound with plenty of bass. I would recommend adding the sub woofer as I did. You won’t be disappointed.

I just got this product and did a setup with my Samsung 8 series TV. yes, it beats the TV sound, its crisp and clear. To enjoy fully, you got to add the Boss - Bass Module Subwoofer with it and then it completes and gives you what you need. Will add that in next buy. Its little pricey, but Bose comes with a price tag and more or its like an status.

This is priced less than the 700, but in no way has the quality been compromised. The sound is crystal clear and you can hear stuff that you have missed out earlier. May seem a bit expensive but it is definitely worth it. Add the subwoofer and you will have an elevated sound experience.

This soundbar was super easy to set up, pretty much plug in and go. And the sound is amazing for my living room. I love the Bluetooth and Alexa capability. Sometimes during sporting events, the sound is delayed and I'm still troubleshooting how to fix it. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Positive: Soundbar 500's sound quality is awesome. Those who prefers clarity over bass will be really happy with this product.
Negative: 1. Although the clarity is awesome, the soundbar lacks a little bit in Bass area. The bass produced by the bar was little less than expected. Hence, to get good amount of bass, the buyer need to buy the Bass module which costs another 400 bucks (painful).
2. Initial setup is really painful and some what confusing. The User Manual provided with the bar is not that much of a help for initial setup. But once the initial setup is done, the bar works perfectly fine.
3. It seems to me that the cost of the soundbar is much more than it should be. I bought only the bar which costed me 530$ after tax. And I am not completely satisfied with the bass produced by the sound bar. Now if I have to get the desired bass, then I need to buy the bass module which costs 400 + tax. Soundbar with bass module cost will be around 960$ which seems heavily overpriced according to my honest opinion.
Still I always loved Bose and will so in future. I will buy the bass module & rear speakers probably next year to complete the full set. Can't do it now due to monetary issues :(

The Bose Soundbar 500 is well designed and provides sound well above the competition. The app works well and allows control of the system using any smart device. It blends well with most furnishings without taking much room and is not noticeable as a focal point within the room.
And the sound is great!!

Bose needs to improve the setup process as it is over simplified to the point of confusion. There are almost no instructions and if something fails, as in my case, it is difficult to diagnose the problem. Almost nothing worked correctly as indicated. Had a heck of a time getting the IOS (also tried Android) app to connect to the device and once it did finally connect, there was a lengthy software update to the device, followed by no sound output. I could not get any sound from the TV with the included HDMI cable even though my almost new Samsung TV had the proper HDMI output port for audio and was set to output sound through that port. I finally switched to an optical cable and everything worked. Once it was finally up and running the sound quality was/is outstanding and I really like the Amazon Prime integration allowing for easy streaming of my music from Amazon. Alexa integration is not working and I think that may be due to an IOS incompatibility but that was no issue for me as I didn't want Alexa anyway. I would give it five stars if it not for the poor installation experience. I recommend it, but just be prepared for some up front hassle.

I purchased this item looking to enhance the sound on my television. This one does the job and then some. The sound without the sub is tremendous sounding. It packs quite a punch and provides you with movie theater quality sound in your home. The added alexa feature allows it to be a smart speaker as well.

The Bose 500 sound at provides a much needed improve to the standard television volume. The soundbar syncs through the phone and is a definite improvement and highly recommended purchase. Looking forward to pairing with the subwoofer in the future.

Love how Alexa can control the sound bar. The Bose soundbar sounds great. Was a bit hard getting the bar set up with the app but we were able to to do with no problem. It took time and a little patients. We love the Bode System.

I got this soundbar with the Bose 500 subwoofer. You absolutely need that subwoofer as this soundbar can't output enough bass by itself.
I got this soundbar since it was small and it didn't take over the entire wood TV console we have in our living room. It looks nice and it doesn't draw attention. Our living room is directly connected to our kitchen as it is open concept. I was hoping this soundbar can play music into our living space while sounding great for TV shows and movies.
For setup, I had issues with the Bose music app connecting to the soundbar. After a few attempts, it connected and then it started updating the soundbar. The app wasn't very clear it was doing the update. Overall, it took about 45 minutes before it was ready.
In terms of sound, the sound bar sounds decent as a 2.1 system. Vocals were clear during TV shows and movies. For music, it sounded good when you were close by but it didn't sound full when you moved past the couch. I redid the microphone calibration setup by putting it as far away as possible from the TV and it helped a lot. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough and it just couldn't fill the room enough.
For movies, this just can't do surround sound unless you pay even more those rear surround modules. For fronts, it's good enough.
I was annoyed that all EQ adjustments had to be done through the app and not through the remote. I was surprised that there are no listening modes like you have on your receiver. Instead, you have to adjust the bass, treble, and center speaker level EVERY time you change the source. It drove me up a wall to pull the phone out, wait for it connect, dig deep in the settings, and make your adjustments.
The remote that comes with the unit is basically useless. You only use it to change the source.
Overall, for $900, I would recommend larger soundbars by different competitors like the Q80R or a Vizio. They just sound better and they can imitate a 5.1 system much better than this soundbar can. If this soundbar/subwoofer combo was $600, I would have rated much higher except for the stupid Bose app (it really needs some added features).
I returned the entire system. Since I couldn't get a larger soundbar, I decided to get in-ceiling speakers instead.

Brand response from Bose

Hey!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Soundbar 500. It's great to hear that you enjoyed the aesthetics of the speaker, and the clarity of voice during playback. While the speaker is not a surround system, the ADAPTiQ calibration is designed to optimize the audio playback for the unique environment that the speaker is located in.
The Bose Music app certainly provides some great additional features, including the customizing of bass and treble levels. This does not need to be altered when you are changing between sources - these settings are retained and applied automatically. While we're sorry to hear that you've since returned the speaker, the accessory Surround speakers would have helped provide a true surround experience as that of which you require in your home.

Easy to install and set up, sound is absolutely tremendous. Yes, it is a bit pricey but so far that is my only complaint. A few notes:
It comes with its own HDMI cable if you are using the HDMI (ARC) port on your television (highly recommend). You have to go into your TV settings and disable to TV speakers but it is a relatively simple task to accomplish.
Connects easily to apple airplay so that you can listen to music on your phone and easily play it through the sound bar using Bluetooth connection. The simplicity of this action has more than justified the price of the sound bar to my wife and I.
Overall, I highly recommend it and would happily purchase again.
