The product came out of the box missing pieces. It seemed very overpriced for the quality of the product. Not a good buy at all.

I actually expected better sound. I have a Sony model that cost $50 that sounds much better.

Great Bose sound and compact size

Looked at available iPhone/iPod speaker systems and chose the Bose unit due to it having a Lightning connector. I've always found Bose products to produce great sound. This unit puts out plenty of volume and has solid bass and rich sound. Not much to say for features as you just plug in your iPhone/iPod and then use the remote to play, adjust volume, skip. etc. The unit does not take up much deskspace and being only a few inches deep sits nicely at the back of my desk.

Finally excellent sound from my iPod touch

I was reading all the reviews here and on other websites before I finally decided to go with this one. It is definitely worth every penny. Other reviewers stated it is not portable and needs to be plugged in, well - think again, it is on the box that it charges the iPod while in use, how else would that work if not plugged in? The sound is just amazing, works right out of the box, no problems here. I still have a smaller portable one that works through bluetooth in case I want to take my iPod with me, but my iPod is solely in use as a stereo system, no other apps are on there.

Problems playing with case on device (Revised)

I recently wrote a review for the IPod Touch 5th gen about being unable to play on the Sound Dock without having to remove the case. I spoke with the techs at the Apple store and explained the frustration as another reviewer previously wrote about. The tech recommended a solution. Use a case that has an open bottom instead of individual openings for the ports, and that should resolve it. Well, I had already spent $$$ on an Otterbox Defender case, but if I could find a suitable replacement case that would persuade me from returning the Bose Sounddock III , I would consider that. I found a hard shell case with an open bottom at Walmart for $15. This has solved the problem. Had I known about the lightning connector problem on the Sounddock before I bought the Otterbox case, I would not have bought the Otterbox case. Hope this updated review is helpful.

Great sound, big oversight in design

I waited patiently for a Sound Dock that was directly compatible with the iPhone 5 (Lightning connector) and the Sound Dock III seemed to be the answer. It's fairly expensive as sound docks go, but the sound quality always seems to make it worthwhile for someone that appreciates the rich, deep sounds of such a small package. The features are few, perhaps too few, but it makes it a simple unit to operate. So far so good. The big issue with me is, the Sound Dock III cannot accommodate an iPhone 5 fitted with a protective cover. Suffice it to say, I don't know of anyone that doesn't have a protective cover on their overpriced iPhone 5, so it's a huge miss in my opinion, that Bose did not accommodate for this in the design of the product. Now I understand that, with the wide variety of protective covers not everything can fit all the time, but I expect more from Bose, and I expect them to understand that covers are a reality for the vast majority of cell phone users. My particular cover is very thin. Perhaps 1mm thick, but likely a little but less. The sound dock, confirmed by Bose support, is not designed to accommodate the use of ANY protective cover. This means having to remove and re-install the cover each time you want to use the Sound Dock III, or remove the cover all together and take you're chances. I chose the latter because there's no way I have time to pull the phone in and out of the cover each time I want to use the Sound Dock. I've already paid the price with a couple short drops leaving blemishes in the trim ring around the phone, but at least I was luck enough to not shatter the glass. I'm very disappointed in Bose for having designed their product without factoring in the reality that nearly all cell phone users use protective covers on their cell phones. It might not be easy to accommodate, but that's why I've bough this and other Bose products in the past - they're supposed to be a cut above. I'm afraid to say that this is the first Bose product that's a disappointment overall for me.

An amazing sound system, no more needs to be said!

Simply put the sound is amazing only two little minor annoyances. It was still not enough to take away from the sound and have me give it a 4 rating though. The annoyances are that it has no control buttons on the unit. It is solely controlled by the remote. So if you lose the remote you need to buy a new remote or you cannot use the unit. Thinking of buying a spare remote...just in case. The other is it only has a hookup for the new IPods the classic models with the larger ports are not supported and must be hooked up with the auxiliary wire. I have purchased an adapter and it is on order from Amazon. Once it comes in I will try to remember to come back and update the review. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Great product for sure but great customer service

Have an earlier generation model which is terrific and I'd highly recommend. However, changed iPhone and had a technical issue. Called Bose customer service. Answered on second ring by a well trained, articulate young man who patiently talked me through the problem and resolved it. Everyone knows Bose makes a premium product; my experience shows that after laying out the money, they stand by it and give the consumer a quality of customer service which matches the company's high product standards. Sometimes we become used to poor customer service, where no one wants to be bothered with you after they've got your money. Not the case at Bose and they're making customer service a strength to support their great products.

    Love the sound!

Bose is known for sound, and now I know why. This system is amazing. I'm hearing tones in my tunes that I never knew were there. I listen to a very eclectic mix - anything from classical to country to hip-hop, and even a little rap, and everything is crystal clear. The only reason I deducted a star is because it doesn't fit on an iPhone with a case on it. I had to buy a separate extender (dockstubz by cablejive works great).

    Great Sound - outdoor use

We bought a series II several years ago and wanted another unit so we purchased the newer Bluetooth - brought it back - no comparison to this unit! We dock our iPod and use aux cord for Ipad - Love it! We use it primarily outside on our patio - friends cannot believe the sound from this unit. Fills the entire backyard. Use it tailgating at Packers games...it's great! Ideal for campers, tailgaters, patio....durable - still looks like new after several years of outdoor use.

    Alert! Do Not Buy!

Okay, you can thank me later. I strongly urge you not to buy Bose Sound Docks. My Sound Dock 1 went out in one year. I just bought the SoundDock III on February 13 ,2015. Last night when I went to dock my IPOD Touch it worked for three minutes then began spewing gibberish (I listen to audio books). As soon as I un docked my IPOD the sound came back clear. Docked it again and same thing after three minutes. Just google Bose product problems and see for yourself. And even under warranty you can spend $80 bucks to ship it to repair....Bose won't pay shipping. Find any other brand. Not this one!

Remote did not work with my Ipod classic

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have a 6th generation Ipod Classic that is supposed to work with this dock, I even called Bose and they said yes. Yet the remote only worked for the volume and power. I could not change songs with the remote, even setting them up on a playlist (which I found as a possible solution per google) did not work. I had to manually change the songs on the Ipod, and I have to say the connector was so flimsy, I could see it breaking within days, especially with having to manually press the buttons on the Ipod to change the songs. Huge disappointment and waste of my time, I returned the unit.

    Bose not so good

Sounddock 3 unlike older versions is no longer portable. It must be plugged in. eliminating its usefulness. The only way to know this is to take it out of the box. Once you take it out of the box, you can no longer return it to Best Buy even for a store credit. We talked to the General Manager at the Fair Lakes store. He said there is no one else to complain to other than him. NEVER EVER shopping Best Buy or Bose again.

Gave average because never opened box. Looked like box showed rechargeable battery option. Not everything is bluetooth, but Bose thinks so for wireless speakers.
