Was a little short on base sound. Somewhat overpriced but the sales discount made it acceptable Would not buy without this discount.

The charging brick isn’t included as part of our commitment to reducing environmental impact most customers already have compatible chargers, which helps minimize waste. The great news is that your SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) includes adjustable Bass, Treble, Boost, and Reducer settings, so you can fine-tune the sound to your liking.
To use the Equalizer:
In the Bose app, select your product then tap on the EQ button in the lower-left corner; or within the Sound section of the Settings menu, select Equalizer. Bass, mid, and treble level presets can be chosen buttons below. Graphic EQ changes can be made by pressing and sliding the white circle up or down. To return to the default EQ curve, tap Reset in the upper-right corner.

Another great portable speaker from Bose

Overall you are getting a reasonably priced, good sounding, portable bluetooth speaker with good battery life and some weather resistance. It makes a great device for work or play, inside or out. This speaker makes a great speaker for playing music with friends when you want something much better than a phone without a bulky less portable setup. The Flex 2nd Gen comes in small packaging with some basic paperwork and a short USB A-C cable for charging. The speaker pairs quickly via bluetooth you can also use the Bose app as a companion to the speaker. The app opens up additional functionality such as EQ adjustments, but the speaker can be used without the app if desired. You can also pair two speakers together with the "shortcut button" for stereo sound or what Bose calls party mode where two separate speakers play the same thing. Sound quality: Bose speakers virtually all have a pleasant sound without significant objections. The sound is clear with better bass than you'd expect for the size of the speaker. The volume can get quite loud. Vocals are clear and in general the sound is better than you'd expect for a speaker of this size. The speaker is also water resistant which makes it great for outdoor use. Overall easily recommended for its portable speaker use case.

Switch often does not engage, and battery status is often garbled. Disappointing that this small glitch makes a return likely.

The speaker's physical controls are designed to be easy to operate; however, if you're finding the power button difficult to operate, pushing down with a fingernail or thumbnail should help. While the sound stage is wide it is not well defined. The bass over powers any highs. It's all mids and bass. I initially love the speaker until I compared it to the beats pill which was actually a real shocker since I am not an Apple fan at all! But Apple definitely nailed this product. I was also extremely disappointed in the Sony Ult Field One. The bass (which I absolutely love on Sony's headphones) sounds horrible choppy and The passive radiators sound like they are going to pop in not a good way. So close Bose.

Regarding volume in wide open areas, you're absolutely right. While the speaker delivers impressive sound for its size, larger spaces may require a bigger speaker for optimal coverage. That said, when compared to other speakers of similar size, the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) truly stands out in performance.
