I have Bose Quiet Headphones and now I have Bose - SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) Portable Bluetooth Speaker. Excellent acoustics in sound, naturally, small in size but draws attention when cranking the sound up. Who would think that a speaker small, long shape could produce sound quality?! Impressive, most impressive...

The sound quality is excellent for the size and the build feels premium. The stereo pairing works well, which is why I bought two. However, a software update removed the spoken battery level announcement and effectively eliminated speakerphone functionality. The battery change is a major problem for my setup. I often use these speakers paired with an Amazon Echo via Bluetooth, and now there is no practical way to check battery level without disconnecting and reconnecting to the Bose app. Previously, I could press a button and hear the exact percentage instantly. Now I get a vague tone at 10%, which is not useful. Speakerphone support being removed is another example of functionality being taken away, even if I didn’t rely on it as much. On Best Buy’s product page, speakerphone capability is still listed as a feature, which makes this even more frustrating. The bigger issue is that Bose is willing to reduce features through automatic updates with no option to opt out or roll back. That’s concerning for a product at this price point. Buyers should be aware that what you purchase today may not be what you have tomorrow.

If you use the App you can adjust your favorite setting in the equalizer. For a more intense sound, buy 2 speakers, pair them into stereo mode and have a designated left and right channel for your hand held device.
