Will work with JUST a LAPTOP. No phone necessary.

Turned it on, turned on Bluetooth on both speaker and computer and then choose BOSE speaker. The sound is pretty good. But IF you are going to use your smartphone you MUST install their app. I am not using my iPhone but rather my laptop. So this is not important to me at all. The app allows you to tweak the setting I think.

IMO not foor indoor use...

I like the sound but in my small office it didn't sound good. But once outside it was nice. Maybe it's the room I intenteded to use it in.
