The app was engineered to provide a simple, user-friendly pairing/connection experience with compatible Bose Bluetooth products. However, you can certainly pair and connect the headphones using the Bluetooth settings menu in your mobile device, without using the app. Best regards. Brian - Bose Support

Not suitable for running in my opinion. I had to return mine because of that. Other than that its sound is awesome.
