Customers enjoy the SoundSport Free True Wireless Headphones for their excellent sound quality, comfortable fit, and long battery life. The charging case is also well-received for its convenience. However, some users have experienced connectivity issues, find the design to be bulky, and feel that the price is not justified by the product's performance.

    Not happy with my product!!

I bought these headphones about 2 weeks ago (today being 4/01) and I was looking for good headphones to workout with. I never liked wireless because they fall out, poor connection, and controls. I alway love bose products, but this time I am very unsatisfied with these headphones. When I bought them the sells person let me try his personal headphones....the same exact ones I bought.....he said, “now you will have the left ear bud disconnect. All you have to do is press the button on the side and it will reconnect.” So I try them that day they are amazing. The sound was clear, they didn’t fall, and the stayed connected, but now, the left ear bud disconnects frequently and when I press the reconnect button it doesn’t reconnect. If I do not reconnect it the right eat bud disconnects too. I tried to disconnect them from my phone and reconnect them but no luck. Right now I’m out of town but when I get back I am returning as soon as possible and going with a different brand.

    Good but has issues

The sound of these is great, but they do have connectivity issues. Sound would cut out of left ear numerous times during a run, did software update and worked better for a couple days then they started to cut out again. Tried on Iphone and Samsung phones with same issues. Trying to connect these to a smartwatch is a pain because the right one would connect but left one would not, I had to pair with my phone then pair again with watch to get sound through both ears. The volume controls on these are tough , you almost have to take the right earbud off to change the volume or song. The sound of these is great but for a Bose product I expected less issues. If they were less than $100 then I would accept the issues, but for $200 I would not purchase.

The Bose SoundSport Free Wireless earbuds are and will continue to my earbud of choice. The never fall out, which is AMAZINGLY AWESOME. I have small ears and usually have my ears throbbing in pain-not once with these! The have a great battery life as I can use them 5+ hours on a single charge, and charging only takes a few hours at most. I love the charging dock- it’s magnetic and very well made. Very much recommend and will purchase a pair for my husband!

Yesterday I reviewed the Jabra 65t and took them back because they had no bass and the case itself was difficult to open. I decided to give one more chance to headphones that could even remotely compete with my Airpods. Bose has done it. I wanted the ease of connection and the sound quailty. The Jabras were not even close. These are slightly bulky compared to the Airpods but I assure they aren't going anywhere which is always a concern for the pods. These are definitely competition for the pods.

Connectivity issues are a deal breaker

Received these as a gift on Christmas 2018, I am returning them today Jan 5th 2019. Since it is against the review guidelines to share URL’s in a review I did not provide the link to 32 pages worth of people complaining about what I write below on the Bose forum, so I have summed it up below. Bose closed that thread because of “no new information”, so essentially there is not a fix. If anyone is curious (or bored) you can easily find this by searching Bose Soundsport Free Left Headphone Drops. So the purpose of this review is to save others the annoyance and top dollar for a disappointing product. They pair to my iPhone with no issue but staying connected has proven to be impossible. Left bud cuts out/disconnects constantly, and when I say constantly I mean constantly. Sometimes it reconnects on its own, sometimes I have to “wake it up” by pressing the button on the bud to reconnect it. Sometimes both buds disconnect and the music just stops, this is problematic when the entire purpose of getting these is centered around an active lifestyle and using them while working out/biking/running. Yes I have unpaired/forgotten the buds on my phone and repaired, attempted firmware updates (more on that further down) and used them in various environments to rule out “interference”, none of which worked. The second issue is the left bud periodically emits a loud buzzing noise, which can only be resolved by turning them off and back on or by putting them back in the charging case. Which does me no good when I do not have the case with me. Yes I am aware of the firmware updates that have been released to attempt to resolve some issues. From my experience these take 45min-1hr to try to download. I say try because they do not stay connected long enough to complete the firmware transfer. Before anyone claims interference or a range issue, the buds and my iPhone are sitting on the counter practically touching each other and still fail to properly tranfer the updates so this would seem absurd to me. In summary, these are trash. Either the truly wireless technology is not where it needs to be yet or Bose simply missed the mark and is incapable of resolving. So with that I will be purchasing a significantly cheaper pair of buds.

    Almost Perfect

Almost perfect These headphones are incredible and yet have a few shortcomings that stop them from achieving perfection. Rather than bore you with long drawn out explanations about the sound which of course is tuned to the same bass filled curve Bose is known for. I want to focus on the products pros and cons: Pros: great build quality (mostly plastic) Great bass response Good Audio quality Nice mid and high levels but no superb Quick connection to most Bluetooth devices Comparable battery life to similar products Buttons have great firm response Few cutoffs Cons Huge case to carry buds Can’t be used independently only right ear in my testing No w1 chip seems to be constantly charging since case dies out after a few days Protrude from ear drums Can’t share a earphone as you would an AirPod No noise cancellation features Updates take forever (about an hour) Bose Application fails to recognize earbuds on occasion Issues aside this product offers superior sound to most products since it’s able to fill up the ear cavity with quality sound. Definitely geared toward the athlete not the casual user.

I tried Samsung and Beats, but they both were weak in the bass. I have some intense workout music that sounds great with good speakers or headphones, and those didn't cut it. I switched to Boss and it was night and day, much much better. It just made a big smile break out on my face. So excited about these! They also fit securely and comfortably once you figure out how. My only nitpick is the buttons are very difficult to use.

I've owned 2 wired Bose earphones, and the previous bluetooth earbuds that were not true wireless. Love the controls and the fit and quality of Bose. These were extremely disappointing. 1) Audio lags about 2 seconds during video. If you ever watch videos/movies/sports/youtube or whatever, it drives you nuts. 2) Calls only come through one ear. If you talk on your phone a lot, these are just annoying. 3) App you have to install to control the volume, so theres 2 sets of volume on your phone when you use the earphones. Cmon bose, just let me set one volume. The actual comfort is nice, the case is amazing. I got about 4 hours of use per charge and they obviously charge fast. But they're just impractical to many use cases. I was super disappointed. I would recommend holding off purchase until Bose fixes their products.

      Hi Anthony,

Thank you for providing your review of the SoundSport Free wireless headphones. We are sorry to hear about the experience you had. We had released firmware in the past that improves audio/video synchronization which benefits devices that support Bluetooth AVDTP 1.3 or later. A/V synchronization may also vary depending on the mobile app being viewed. We encourage you to use the most recent software versions of your apps, Bluetooth devices, and Bose headphones. We will also continue to partner with select app developers to improve this experience.

For clarification, the headphones were designed for single earbud usage while on phone calls. We appreciate that you shared your experience with us, it is something we can learn from and improve on. As a research company, we are always looking for opportunities to make our products better.

Should you need any further assistance with your headphones, please contact our Bose technical support team at your convenience by clicking here: https://bose.life/2v8YQJ0

    Great sound, poor otherwise

The sound for these ear buds is terrific and much better than competitors. In addition, these will not fall out of your ear which is a great design. Sadly, for $200, that is it. There is a huge issue with video and app sound synchrynization so do not plan on using these for any apps or videos where you want sound to sync up with the screen. Also, for phone calls, only the right ear is active and engaged when using the phone which is a huge step back from having the option of both, or just left or right as with other competitors - terrible choice by Bose. I called after owning these for 2 days about the sync issue and the Bose tech wants me to send them back in exchange for a new one. Based on all of the other issue I have read about since purchasing, I doubt this will solve the issue.

The sound quality is great. But from time to time I get fade out... Sound only comes from one ear piece. Switching back and forth between right and left. I didn't receive a phone call nor a text. I check each time. Not sure the issue. I wish I could reinstall the update. Not sure if that would resolve the issue.

These are huge, if you don’t mind looking like Shrek go for it. The volume is about 75% of a wired earphone. The ear piece and wing tip are one and do not rotate. The app doesn’t allow for customizing sound. Might be ok for some but for $250 no way. I will just wait for something better. Get the Jaybird Run and save $70. Go eat a nice steak dinner a few beers with savings.

I have been using the Bose SoundSport Free for about a week and a half now, and I have to say that I am incredibly impressed. I primarily have used the Free's to run outside, but also occasionally watch Youtube on my phone. I will say, upon putting these in my ears for the first time, I felt a bit weird. They have a strangely large design and in-ear mechanism, but as a result, have one of the most snug fits I've experienced in a headphone. These are far from noise-canceling and I actually liked that a bit of sound was able to permeate the "seal", so I was constantly aware of my surroundings if, say, traffic or other pedestrians were approaching. The build quality is incredible, and I especially like how sturdy the charging case feels, and I have found their claim that they extend the battery life of your headphones by about 10 hours to be true. The battery life of the headphones themselves are an impressive 5 hours, and I was able to recharge them twice with the case. I did not have any of the pairing issues that previous users have mentioned in their reviews. Make sure to update to the newest firmware immediately, and I think you will be issue free on that front! With a $200+ price tag, I do wish the case charged with USB-C, but that's a gripe for another day. Try to act surprised, but the sound quality in these things is incredible. I mean, we are talking about a Bose product here. I found the low-end to be very present, unlike past Bose products, and I believe the sound signature is very pleasant when using these while working out. The IPX4-certification is the icing on top. Bose, you have yourself a lifelong customer.

Good sound, difficult Bluetooth pairing to Laptop

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The sound quality is awesome. However, I wanted to use them while working on my laptop wirelessly. There is difficulty in pairing with my HP laptop. Had to delete and re-pair numerous times for a connection. When it did connect, would only get sound in the right ear. (Which is the master). Only takes phone calls with the master and I am a left ear listener on the phone. Thus, if you are a right ear person, no problems. After wearing them an hour, I found that my ears were a bit sore from the pressure. I like the Bose brand and sound; However, I did return them and decided to upgrade to over the head Bose Q35ii wireless headphones and I will continue my review on that our purchase under that product. The other comments of the earbuds looking large is true for those who has short hair. Great sound, but not for Bluetooth pairing to an HP Laptop I own and if you want to receive phone calls to hear in both ears.

      Hello there,

Thanks for taking the time to provide a review of the SoundSport Free wireless headphones. Happy to hear that you enjoyed the sound quality. We see that you had run into some trouble, and we are sorry for that. We cannot guarantee compatibility with all devices but understand how frustrating it can be. We see that you had some trouble connecting with your computer. These Bluetooth related pairing issues can be attributed to the vast amount of possible combinations of not only your computer’s operating systems but OS versions, Bluetooth chipsets, and drivers. The headphones also require the support for A2DP for stereo audio.

However, we are glad to see that you were able to get yourself a pair that suits your needs. Please feel free to reach out to us again if we can be of any assistance to you.

We appreciate the feedback here. Please take care, and have a wonderful day.

    Frankenstein Head

These literally look like the metal conductors from the old Frankenstein movies coming out of your ears. Moving past that, they are heavy and not suitable for walking/running. Tried that during a fundraiser 2K walk. Furthermore, unreliable connection with frequent dropouts from left to right bud. Forget about proper video syncing. Oh, and well known issue with Windows PC connection problem wheras left earbud doesnt work at all. Bose built in Auto reconnect will drive you crazy as the buds search for your devices one at a time every time you remove them from the charging case....slowly. All very frustrating. I'm running out of breath here. I will say this, sound quality is amazing for truly wireless ear buds. Here's the thing, need a year or two more before they can get the size reduced, Bluetooth 5 is needed, battery needs to be smaller and provide same juice. Don't let this happen to you. It will happen, but I don't see it in 2018.

I got these little guys and wasn’t sure how I would feel about them however I’ve been using my iPhone wired earbuds and they suck. Soooo...I thought why not give these a go and I really like them. I wore them at the gym, to work in the yard and to talk hands free. The sound is amazing but Bose has always been known for the best sound and these earbuds don’t disappoint. They are pricey but worth the money.

    Lags when watching video

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

These headphones sound great, but experience a 1-2 second lag when watching any kind of video on my phone. This lag is even worse when using my laptop. Everyone is experiencing this issue, not just me. My pair was not faulty -- rather this is a design flaw inherent to this product. Bose still has not fixed this issue, and I suspect it will be several months before they can. The headphones might have to be recalled altogether according to a local Bose rep that i spoke with. Unacceptable, and essentially makes these headphones useless. Very disappointing and i would expect a lot more from Bose. Don't buy these until this issue is fixed or a new product is released to replace them.

We’ve heard from some customers who are experiencing audio synchronization delays while watching videos.  We know truly wireless headphones are subject to some latency between audio and video, but the feedback we’ve received indicated the product wasn’t performing how we expected.

A SoundSport Free software update is now available to improve audio video synchronization for most customers and use situations.  You can download the new software wirelessly through the Bose Connect app or by visiting btu.bose.com on your computer.  This update will benefit customers with Bluetooth devices that fully support Audio Video Distribution Transport Protocol (AVDTP) version 1.3 or later.  We have confirmed Apple iPhones and iPads use this protocol and we continue to evaluate other popular Bluetooth devices.  Audio video synchronization may also vary depending on the mobile app being viewed (e.g. Netflix, YouTube).  We encourage customers to use the most recent software for your mobile apps, Bluetooth devices and Bose headphones.

If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact us directly at our Customer Support Line at 1-800-379-2073. We're open Mon-Fri, 9 AM to 8 PM. Or you can follow us on Twitter @BoseService. Bose

Man the sound quality in these things are divine. Staying in your ear is the problem though. I jump rope a lot and mountain bike. After jumping rope with them they wouldn’t stay in for one song AT ALL. But I knew I would lose these riding on a trail. But that sound quality can’t be beat.
