Not for everyone, not even all runners

I do trail running. These seem to be wonderful for running on the trails in Florida. The sound quality is Sooo good. For real. So much better than the bone conduct counterparts. I would even say they sound better than most low-end earphones. Unfortunately, that might be the only satisfactory perspective to me. My biggest problem is volume control. By late March 2021, they already update the firmware to include a volume control. However, since the unit is not equipped with touch sensors, the volume control is achieved by detecting the sound from the mic when you tap. The result is that any tapping on any place on the unit will trigger the volume change. I run in a hat and sunglasses. They all kinda luster together around the ear. The volume control was trigger soooo many times by the bouncing glasses when I ran, making it very unusable. I have to stop so frequently to adjust the volume. Siri doesn't work well with this thing for controlling volume either. After Siri changed the volume, this earbud will keep playing on the same volume. Fit is hard and painful after 40 mins. There is no adjustment. The button is a bit award to press. I won't recommend this to anyone unless they can try it first.

These headphones are excellent. I am a delivery driver and use them all day every day to listen to tunes while I run my route. They easily last the full 8+ hour day running music the entire time nonstop. That matches up with their advertised battery life plus some. Thankfully they have great battery life as once they need to be recharged they have to be placed on the included charging dock. The included case is just that, a case. It has no charging capabilities. For me they are very comfortable, no strain on my ears even after 8 hours of use. I could see however how they wouldn’t necessarily be a good fit for everyone as they have no adjustments at all and are made of solid plastic. Getting them on is a trick that I didn’t understand at first but the instructions make it clear. Because of how they fit they stay on extremely well, I’ve never had either side get even close to falling off while running around. Being Bose, you’d expect great sound quality and they do not disappoint. I am very impressed with the richness of the sound they produce especially for their open design. That openness is what makes them unique, and why they work so well for me. I need to be able to hear my directions and be able to focus on my surroundings for my safety and they are perfect for that. The negative as far as sound goes is for phone calls, they are mediocre. I have experienced everything from flawless calls to an extremely garbled mess. They clearly had music first as the focus for their design and it just so happens you can take a call on them but be prepared for mixed results when doing so. If you want headphones that can produce great sound while leaving you able to hear your surroundings, last a long time and feel great while you use them, look no further. Just be aware that phone call quality can be spotty if you plan on using them for that often. These are my new favorite headphones and I will be using them daily while I work. I highly recommend them.

I have use open ear headphones in the past and have never been a huge fan. I was skeptical of these headphones at first but after using them they far exceeded my expectations. The biggest thing that surprised me was the sound quality. Bose is known for having superb sound quality but with an open ear design I was impressed with how great the sound quality was. There was no distortion and there was still a decent amount of base. They sounded just as good or better than many in ear headphones. These headphones are extremely comfortable. They fit well on the ears and since they do not go inside your ears, they are comfortable for a much longer period of time. These earbuds fit extremely well on the ears which is great for sports and an active lifestyle. Even though wrap around the back of your ears they still work when wearing glasses. These headphones are also durable and built for the active lifestyle. There are two buttons on them which makes them simple and easy to use. One of them will power them on and off. The other can access battery level and phone assistant. The only downside is that they have a proprietary charger, and it does not fit inside of the case with the headphones. This is not a huge problem though. I highly recommend these headphones for anyone with an active lifestyle or people who would like a wireless earbud that allows them to hear their surroundings as well.

I've owned several Bose products. I've also owned several sports audio products. I've been running for more than 10 years. I've also run several marathons. When I look for earbuds I do not look for the price. I look for durability as I sweat a lot. I sweat more than the average bear. I've head expensive audio earbuds that lasted me 2-3 months and I have also had inexpensive earbuds that have lasted me more than 2 years. I run 3-5 days a week. I was skeptical about Bose going to the sports audio products. (I never used the previous model so I cannot give my review of the pros and cons of the models. My first impression was the real cool Bose case. It has magnetized strips that are used to keep it locked. It is also made up of durable material, so I don't have to worry about being damaged in my gym bag. Also was how light these earbuds are! It feels like you are not wearing anything at all. The earbuds hold on tight to my ears as they tighten by the ear itself. I slide them into position. I couldn't adjust the earbuds I guess its based on the shape of your ear. I did not have any problems adjusting. I had to download a Bose app so I can sync via Bluetooth to my music app. I am not sure if you can sync up without the Bose app, but it is probably a good idea since it was updating the firmware once it found my earbuds. The sound was good. Clear, and not to muffled. Highs and lows were good. I did notice that they were not loud as I wanted them to be. A lot lower than what I am accustomed. After a while its not to bad. Just a warning for anyone who likes to play loud music. Another thing I felt uncomfortable with is where the audio comes out in the earbud. I notice there's a small cut out inside the earbuds. I assume is where the sound comes out. I worry because of my sweat and the last thing I would want to do is distort the audio due to sweat being trapped in the speakers. It is something I will be watching out for when I finish working out. I've used these earbuds 3 times already so I will see how long they will last me. I've always had good experiences with Bose products so I am hopeful it will be the same with these earbuds. I recommend!

Innovative earbuds but ear fit may vary

The Bose - Sport Open earbuds are unlike any other sport earbuds currently on the market. They provide high quality sound while barely sitting on your ear. The design of the earbuds allows for the earbud to sit securely on the ear by hooking behind the ear and sitting near the top your ear. This unorthodox design may take a little while to get used to depending on your ear type. The instructions make it seem as if it is extremely easy to put these on however I personally had a little difficulty getting the earbuds on. Once I did get them on properly they were surprisingly secure. I went on few runs and I can say that the earbuds did not feel like they were going to fall off. My previous earbuds would routinely pop out once or twice during my run without fail. Since these earbuds are resting on your ear you can stay aware of your surroundings while taking part in your favorite outdoor activities. Since these earbuds are IPX4 rated you don't have to worry about them getting ruined by sweat or the rain. You don't get much bass from the earphones however I was not expecting much from the on ear design. I honestly did miss the bass because it gives me that extra push when needed during my workouts. The mic on the earbuds works exceptionally well for phone calls even in noisy environments. Charging the headphones is one thing that I did not like about these earbuds. Most earbuds these days have integrated charging via the case however these buds must be charged on the included charging base. I find it much easier to charge my other buds by simply placing the case on a wireless charging pad or plugging in the charging cable. Bose did a great job at innovating and releasing a pair of earbuds that are the most comfortable and secure earbuds I have worn while working out. These buds do have a few shortcomings when it comes to charging and proper initial fit however I hope the design is improved with future generations. If you are looking for a pair of earbuds to fit your active lifestyle that allow you to be aware of your surroundings while listening to music then you should definitely try these.

I REALLY wanted to love them

I love my Bose headphones. I have exclusively purchased Bose for the last 8 years, so when I saw these, it felt natural to want them. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. To be objective, I primarily use my headphones as a means for talking on the phone lately, but music quality is important to me. What I hated about them is they hurt the top of my ear, so I couldn’t stand to wear them for long. I also couldn’t comfortably wear sunglasses with them. Wearing my hair down felt like they’d get caught in it and end up falling out. Pressing the buttons to answer calls/pause music was also not convenient. What I loved about them is the sound quality for something that isn’t actually in your ear is excellent! They did have a little bit of customization available for the controls, but not a lot. They also actually stay on your ears! Running, jumping, all that - they’re right where you left them! I ended up returning them but wanted to share my experience.

Generally when I do a review I do an extensive test and list the pros and cons. I got these specifically for my wife though so I will put her review below. These are a big winner to her especially while riding her mountain bike. Safety first. Nice job Bose. My dude just gifted me these awesome Bose sport open earbuds! Or as he labeled them on my phone: Thudbuds. I highly recommend these! They sound great and I am enjoying all my Spotify playlists with them. They sit on top of your ear and not in your ear like most earbuds. They are light, comfortable, and don't feel like they will fall off. I can't wait to get back on my bike so that I can enjoy my new Bose sport open earbuds!!!!! Thank you duder pooders and Bose!

Where do I begin.... On arrival this came with a nice compact case and USB charging station. App was easy to install and connect. Took me less than 10 minutes. Now let's talk about the comfort.... The earbuds slid easily over my ears and stayed secure without moving around (especially important when working out). The second test was how it would feel with my glasses on. This has been a problem for me in the past with other brands and styles. My glasses went on no problem and didn't feel uncomfortable. (This is a big deal for those who have to wear glasses). Now let's talk about sound quality... Everything I expected with Bose sound quality...full spacial sound. I was surprised how good they sounded since they didn't sit exactly over my ear holes, which most all earbuds normally do. Crystal clear highs with a medium base. I was very happy with the sound quality. Now let's talk about how they performed in action.... I have worked out and ran with them 4 times now since arrival. I was very impressed with how they didn't move around while running and even held up in my last 5 mile run where it began raining on my way back home, Through Rain, sweat and continuous movement these new bose earbuds "ran through the tape!" I am absolutely stoked to own a pair of these earbuds and highly recommend investing in a pair of these! Thanks Bose for another quality product!

Can adjust size and squeezes too hard on ears

My overall issue with this product is that they are one size only and are not able to be adjusted in the slightest. I've never had an issue with my ears being too big for a headphone or earbud, but these are just too dang tight to wear comfortably. They squeeze the tops of my ears making them instantly sore when wearing them and feel like they are cutting off any blood flow. Decent product when it comes to sound quality.

    My new favorite headphones

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

These have become my favorite headphones. I'm not crazy about something in my ear, so listening to music and taking phone calls with these is a delight. I love using them under my helmet when snowboarding. If I could give them 4.5 stars, I would. They are very good, but they aren't perfect. But, they are the most perfect headphone on the market, IMO. Improvements are needed in the following areas: 1) They are hard plastic and would be more comfortable if they were flexible rubber. 2) The charging stand is junk and the wire can't be removed. Makes taking these on the go a real PAIN. It should have a charging case, much like the other Bose earbuds. That would make it easy to take on the go. 3) It's easy to put the earphones on the base backward, and they won't charge that way. Be sure to look for the flashing lights!

Amazing sound quality, perfect size & comfortable. I’ve been wearing the bone conduction that wraps around the back of my neck, they are wonderful but are loose fitting, makes it hard to have a conversation, the person can’t hear me. The BOSE fit great, so easy to set up and the sound quality is beyond wonderful!

    Lousy Quality

I've gone through the replacement process once already after two months of ownership. The first pair just decided not to turn on one day and started flashing red and white in the charger. It took three weeks to exchange them through Bose. The replacement pair is about a week old and already failing. I put them on the charger yesterday with 80% battery remaining and pulled them off completely dead. Seems like a good time to write a review while I wait for them to charge. They frequently come off the charger with dead batteries even though the charging lights are on. They cutout and pop like a phonograph skipping constantly (at least once or twice per minute). I use them everyday while running. I have them paired to my Garmin 945. It hasn't rained in the time that I've owned them so, I can't say how they do in weather. The popping messes with the rhythm and cadence. It also makes listening to music pretty unbearable. They'd be good for running if they worked. They fit fine. I don't need to readjust them while I'm running. They stay in place. They aren't uncomfortable on long (1.75hr) runs. They don't block ambient sounds. This is the first Bose product that I have ever given a bad review.

      Hi!
Bose Sport Open Earbuds were rigorously designed and tested for a stable fit.
You have the right fit when:
The ear hook rests behind your ear without any discomfort
The earbud rests over the top of your ear
A comfortable fit might feel slightly loose on your ear. As long as the earbud doesn’t fall off when you move around, it’s a proper fit
