Customers value the excellent sound quality and accurate bass response of the 600 Series Anniversary Edition speakers. Many appreciate the speakers' full sound at a reasonable price, and their size is also frequently praised as fitting well in various spaces. A minor drawback mentioned by some customers involves the magnetic covers, which are reported to be easily detached.

Great wood veneer - the sound leave a little to be desired but these look so good it makes it hard for me to be unbiased about the sound. These were pretty close to comparing to the towers - impressive sound from a small package (especially when paired with a sub)

Very Good Bookshelf Speakers

The Bowers & Wilkins 606 S2 Anniversary Edition bookshelf speakers are very good bookshelf speakers, and should be on your short list.
They arrived securely packaged in a very heavy duty cardboard box, protected with anti-chafe bags and a plastic cover over the drivers. All that was held in place by sturdy styrofoam inserts. Included in the box were multilingual instructions and 3M branded rubber feat to protect the bottoms of the speakers as well as the surface supporting them. Also included were foam port plugs with removable centers. Installing these plugs allows you to tune the bass response to your liking. Installing the plugs will reduce bass.
The speakers are visually very nice, with a clean, matte black finish, and a beautiful etched trim ring securing the steel screen over each tweeter. The grill is a simple rectangular grill with a semi-coarse fabric which attaches to the speaker using magnets. On the rear panel, two pairs of nice solid binding posts are provided along with jumpers to connect the two pairs. If bi-amping or bi-wiring the speakers, the jumpers are removed, and if using only one pair of binding posts for normal connection, the jumpers are left installed.
I installed these speakers in the left and right main positions of my 5.1.2 atmos surround system using the Bowers & Wilkins HTM6 S2 Anniversary Edition center channel, along with four Polk Audio TL-2 satellites and a Polk Audio DSW PRO 660 subwoofer, and a Pioneer Elite VSX-LX303 receiver to drive it all using source material from an Oppo BDP103 and a Roku Ultra.
Initially, I listened to just these two speakers in stereo mode, and in pure direct mode. I was impressed with their clarity, smoothness, and full range sound. Highs were crisp and clean, without being harsh or overly forward. Bass was well defined, precise, and full. Mids were smooth. Back to the bass. I was amazed by the bass response as these speakers reproduced the lowest notes with fidelity. I can't ever remember hearing a bookshelf speaker reproduce bass so well. These are still bookshelf speakers, so don't expect them to rattle the walls with bass you fell deep inside your chest, but they will not disappoint in quality. In fact, When listening to them with my subwoofer in the mix, I had to listen very closely to tell the difference.
When watching movies and TV, I again found their sound to be pleasant and not at all harsh. They also did a great job imaging, just as they did with two channel music. With these and the HTM6 in the three front positions, Imaging was excellent, with sounds coming from the appropriate speaker based on the location of the sound on screen.
The one negative is the 88dB sensitivity rating. Other speakers in this range boast higher sensitivity, which means you will have to play these at a much higher volume than other similar speakers in order to get the same level of sound. This isn't a big issue in a small room, dorm room, or apartment, but it might become an issue in a large living room or home theater. I also noticed that, at lower volumes, bass response was reduced disproportionately as compared to high and mid frequencies. This is where they lost their fifth star.
In a small room, apartment, or office, these speakers will be hard to beat. The sound quality is excellent. I do love the way they sound. I wouldn't hesitate to use these in a two channel setup with a nice amp to listen to vinyl or good quality digital music.

Loved the sound of the speakers, but who would sell white speakers with only a black or grey grill available? I bought them to blend in not be the focal point of my white bookshelves. Took them back and bought Polks that are all white

I received this pair of speakers to test through the best buy tech insider network at no cost to provide my unbiased opinion. I also received a matching center channel speaker. I am replacing a pair of onkyo speakers (and center channel) that came matched with my 7.1 surround speaker system. I have loved this system since day one but it is now 10 years old and I'm looking at slowly upgrading to newer system. First off, these speakers are nothing like I've dealt with before with recent technology. They are solid built wood like cabinets and weigh quite a bit. I'm used to speakers from the 70's and 80's weight this much. Most current speakers, even nice ones are platic or partially plastic and lesser wood. These seem much more substantial, like a thick manufactured wood/polymer they used for decorative coverings on my front porch pillars that are meant to be lifetime maintenance free. They are black, and could be a solid wood of sometype, but has a polymer coating covers that. Around 16lbs each. They are build like mini loudspeakers for a PA system, just solid. This company did start out building PA loudspeakers, and with these, they didn't break the tradition. These do take up a lot more space than my old speakers, but It is worth it. I notice there is no degrading in the sound when I push the volume levels higher than my normal range (20 to 25 setting). Sound stay crisp bass and treble stay separate, no muffling. I have much more low end sound without having to turn up my sub, especially at night. I notice that during movies that the dialogue to action changes are a bit less to struggle with, talk to loud booms that make me turn down the dial. Because I can keep the sound a bit lower I do not have to go deaf when an explosion occurs and still hear the talk when it goes quiet. The detachable screens are very nice, good strength magnets that are secure allows me to blow any dust out of them and put them on easily. I have tested these for over two weeks to really break them in, generally used 8 hours a day with daily tv or music playing through them and am pleased with them. I notice that the balance of bass and treble is better than in my original system speakers, so when I turn down the subwoofer and bass at night, I am still able to hear deeper tone dialogue voice better. My only disappointment with them is they really do need a shelf for use, there is no way to mount these to a wall with a bracket. Many speakers come with hook holes or threaded mount holes, these do not. I had to add a shelf above my tv for the center channel speaker. I feel it will be worth it in the long run. These really do shine best with music, but still very good for a surround sound home theatre system. Overall, If you have the money and want guaranteed quality, these are likely the last speakers you ever need to buy for your home sound system.

When I initially requested these speakers I was beside myself, I had B&W speakers on my want list for some time and I finally got the chance to own them. Unfortunately the ‘rona delayed their delivery by four months but after hooking them up and breaking them in I’m thoroughly impressed.
The style is simplistic and functional and I liked that the protective screens attach magnetically.
Now for technical jargon...after getting them hooked up (Bookshelf was LF w/banana clips, Center was HF with banana clips...I did not Bi Wire them) I ran the speakers on medium to low volume for 2 weeks to give them a solid break in period before bring them online fully (ie loudness). I do consider myself tech savvy and a movie sound junkie. I take joy in finding the hidden sounds and the finely tuned/subtle things that make movies sound great...I mean who doesn’t listen for the Wilhelm every time they watch a movie?!
For my sound/clarity tests I could think of no other film than the Empire Strikes Back on 4K (the greatest movie ever made). This film, like many of the greats, have excellent sound ranges. From the opening crawl, mighty Imperial March, the Battle of Hoth, animal sounds on Dagobah, Cloud City and the subsequent duel and escape along with a phenomenal score from the Master John Williams himself truly provides a solid test.
I pushed 80% power to the speakers and was rewarded with clarity and loudness and that didn’t step on or overwhelm each other. The sound was balanced, I could pick up on nuances not previously heard and when I needed in your face sound...they delivered on an impressive scale.
I pushed a few choice scenes to 90% power and was just blown away. The Scimitar class assault bombers screaming over the asteroid field, Boba Fett blasting off the East Platform and the final portion of the duel between Luke and Vader. The speakers truly made these scenes pop and immersed you in lifelike sound making you feel like you were actually there.
The speakers give you quality that will take your breath away and bring a tear to your eye.
Make sure to hook up quality cables when using these speakers. Do not hook up Walmart cabling to these, spend the money and get some audio quest from Magnolia. If you run good equipment through bad cabling, you’ll get bad sound. You equipment and set up
Is only as good as the cables!!

This is what I've been missing all these years

I'll admit it right now. I'm no audiophile. Far from it. I've got pretty severe hearing loss in one ear and moderate in the other. I guess all those years of heavy metal concerts or listening with headphones with volume set at 10 took it's toll. So I really never cared too much for my audio equipment. Don't get me wrong, I had decent enough stuff for my purpose. Not low end but somewhere between low and middle. While friends and full blown systems with reel to reel decks I was happy with my cheap Fisher component system that I got at a local department store with cassette deck.
Recently I was given the opportunity to receive a set of Bower and Wilkins Series 600 Aniversary Edition speakers and matching center channel. I ran down to my local Best Buy and walked into the Magnolia room while waiting for my shipment to arrive. If you haven't visited a Magnolia Room I highly recommend it so you can listen to all brands and models of the higher end componets and speakers before you buy. I dialed in the Series 600 speakers and center channel and then started playing with surround sound satellite speakers. After listening to everything working together I settled on a pair of Bower and Wilkins 4" satellite speakers. I also stepped up my game a bit with a new Denon AVR750. Not high end receiver but the speakers deserved more respect than the receiver I had in my cabinet and it was on sale.
After connecting everything and running the receiver channel tuning app I sat down to see what all the fuss is about for Bowers and Wilkins speakers. The house was quiet on a Saturday morning so I put Supertramp's "Even in the Quietest Moments" on the turntable and sat dead center between all of the speakers, turned the volume to half and I wasn't prepared for what I was hearing. I was immediately blown away. My goodness... is this what I've been missing? The highs and lows were crisp and clean. Then I started wondering what else I've been missing so I spent the whole day going through my vinyl collection and playing some Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon", YES "Close to the Edge" and "Tales of a Topographical Ocean", Rush "2112" and yes I even threw on some Metallica "Black Album" of course. Oh my... I was blown away. Turns out I've been missing a lot and didn't realize it.
I'm totally amazed of the sound. I have a pretty eclectic taste in music and I'm going to have to go through my whole library to see what else I've been missing all these years. In fact I've been grabbing some vinyl to round out my collection now I have a greater appreciation of what the musicians and engineers made of that bag full of sounds.... amazing music!!!!
Yeah, they are pricey and usually out of my price range. Grab a set of these and they should last you a lifetime! You won't be sorry!!!
