Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the unsurpassed sound quality and surprisingly adequate bass for bookshelf speakers. The ease of use is also a highlight, with some reporting very quick setup times. However, some customers have experienced issues with connectivity. Specifically, the application sometimes struggles to recognize the speakers.

I was impressed by the sound in the store, but I typically take that with a grain of salt as the store is so big and the sound goes everywhere. When I got these things home, WOW! Totally blew me away! I almost missed work the next day because I wanted to hear everything!!! I have Tidal’s upgraded account and EVERYTHING sounds amazing!!! The price tag hurt, but the sound quality healed all of that!!! I will definitely be getting a second pair for my office! (Don’t tell my wife!)

    Dosnt work

It’s possible the speaker would sound great, if only you could get anything to play through them. Airplay dosnt work 99 % of the time, the app alternates between saying there are no speakers and there are. There’s an update avaible, and then well no, they’re already updated. No way to control the volume or adjust the sound once they were set up. Can’t get them to play through Roon. I have the Formation audio and connected the tv through the optical, and just sounds like a hug amount of reverb has been added, so sounds horrible, but at least I could get sound to come out. Read about airplay complaints from the initial unveiling of the product, you’d think they’d have that fixed by now, and apparently how bad it is varies by person. This was meant for people who wanted easy to set up and use, they’ve missed the mark. Too bad I will have to be returning these. Useless as speakers until they fix all the connection and software problems.

      Hi Speedbump,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues. If you have not already, I would recommend contacting us at [email protected]. I use Duo everyday with Roon, Spotify and Airplay on one system and I use a Formation Audio on another system without hiccups. What will not work properly (and we do not recommend trying) is attaching a Formation Audio to your TV and sharing it with another space. This is covered in our support documentation. bowerswilkinsus-ca

It’s a good sounding speaker, but definitely not audiophile grade.

Horrible, spending 5K on a piece of xxx. every time that I need to use the spackers need to (restart) unplug and plug back the speakers so I can use them, my network sees it but it just doesn't play.

    Disruptor in Wireless Loud Speakers

I've had my eye on these speakers for months and decided to pull the trigger on them when Best Buy ran a sale for 20% off. These are probably the best sounding speakers I've ever heard to date, especially when paired with a HiFi streaming service such as Tidal or Roon. Simply incredible. I've demoed the Bowers & Wilkins 700 series tower speakers in the magnolia room at Best Buy, and these blow them out of the water with three less speakers per side! They're also THE EASIEST set of speakers I've ever set up. Why waste your time running running, cutting & hiding speaker wire, when you can have as good or a better experience with these!? You download the app, update each speaker to the latest version, and you're off to the races. Spotify integration works flawlessly, and Tidal works just as well, but SOUNDS immensely better. (Note: the Tidal app is slightly clunkier than Spotify but makes up for it with the benefit of HiFi & maser files). I do want to note I only use these for music purposes, and have not used them for TV / Movies, nor do I ever plan to. I also purchased the Formation Bass for a complete 2.1 setup. The Formation Bass definitely gives them that extra punch, for a better overall experience, but it's not entirely necessary. These Duo's put out a significant amount of base on their own, so you can get away without having the Formation Bass depending on what your music style is. The mid's are crisp & everything that you would expect out of a speaker of this caliber, and the highs are tight & clean. All of the other reviews you see on BB complaining about connectivity issues are likely due to user error. I have Verizon Fios 1GB internet with the new router, and I haven't run into any connectivity issues while listening to them. My primary setup for listening is through an iPhone or my MacBook Pro to stream music to them. Both have had zero issues, and total set up time took 5 minutes. My experience with these speakers have been nothing short of superb. If you're looking for a quality set of loud speakers don't want the headache of running speaker wire, I can't recommend them enough. Based on the performance of these speakers, I'm all in on wireless technology for speakers. Absolutely floored about this purchase.

    Duos don’t work properly

    Posted .

Chronic Problems with the duos: 1). Sudden stop while playing. 2) skipping to the next song without being prompted to do so. 3). ‘Cannot connect to airplay’ The B&W application often cannot see the duos. Or it may take more than 5 minutes to see the duos. Sometimes I’d just give up and walk away. 4). Airplay appears to be connected but no sound comes out as if a blank tape is being played. The same downloaded material played fine previously. I’ve used restart, factory reset, unplugging electrical cords, pressing the button located in front of the duos,....And I’m tired of doing so. My duos have been a huge disappointment. Either I have bought a Lemmon or the duos are not ready for the market, yet. More research and testing need to be done! I would not recommend the formation duos.

    Totally unstable - UNUSABLE

    Posted .

Unusable! I regret I didn't read the reviews here before I ordered. I tried the formation duo speakers on 4 different WIFI networks and it never worked stable. The first one was the best, the second worked not at all, on all others the system is totally unstable. My 5G signal from my current router can't even be detected! A so called B&W service expert came and tried for 3 hours, nothing better. The Audio box he could never set up to stream even a single bit of music to the speakers. The next trial is to use another router. If this also doesn't work I'll ask them to take everything back. The App is incredible poor, how can anyone be satisfied with this crap? Theoretically the sound is good, practically the products are unusable.
