great looking disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The film won 3 well-deserved Oscars (for Makeup, Costumes, & Sound Effects Editing) and Sir Anthony Hopkins is perfect casting as Van Helsing. For all that, however, Coppola's 'definitive' rendering the Bram Stoker's legendary novel is less than stellar. First & foremost, the title is misleading. This film is no closer to the book than the many other films on the Count. Here, we are supposed to sympathize with the count who is portrayed as a tragic lover. Oldman looks the part, but, thanks to the material, doesn't make the same impression in the role as Lugosi & Lee. Likewise, Winona Ryder & Keanu Reeves are miscast as Mina & Jonathan. Had this presented itself as simply another take on Dracula, I would've taken it on those terms and would probably be less harsh with it. However, its belief in its own superiority as the closest adapation of Stoker's book makes a critical analysis imperative.

Blu Ray a Better Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 4k upgrade isn't all that worth it since blu ray quality is of identical quality.

Ok...just Ok
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This stylish version of Stoker's Dracula is a near miss. It's fairly well acted and the cinamatography is pretty impressive but its a little too stylish for its own good. But worth a look either way.

Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite having several promising actors in this movie, it's quite terribly done. The Cinamatography is at times laughably cheesy. The acting is atrocious. There are several scenes were there are just incessant moaning and screaming noises. The only potentially redeeming quality of the film is the fact that if it were done entirely different, the plot was pretty cool, so it might be able to be taken somewhere with the right minds behind it. But as it is, you'd have to pay me to rewatch it.

Not What You'd Expect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read Dracula and thought that the movie would really help nail down the plot of the book... It didn't at all. It just really made me mad. The movie is so different from the book, and really is a horrible representation of the classic novel. Other than that, the acting is not so great and seems like it was made in the '50s. Plus, there is nudity just for the sake of having nudity. I would not recommended this movie to anyone, unless they enjoy being disappointed.

Buggy Disc buy other version
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the movie. Unfortunately when i opened it today i found out that this version of the disc has known manufactureing issues. Expect yours to be defective. Mine goes directly to blue screen when attempting to play and since i bought it in march i was told to "contact the manufacturer" and just so you know the manufacturer doesn't care. So thats the end of me stockpileing movies lol lesson learned.
