Solid, simple brewer w/a head-scratching price...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before any pros/cons; this is a really good coffee brewer. It is built well, looks/feels like it will last awhile, and has a solid 3 year warranty behind it just in case it doesn't. Having said that, for ~$160 it doesn't feel *that* nice and it doesn't have *any* options or crazy brew methods to warrant said price. Even though the dark stainless steel appears quality, it is nowhere near $160 quality for being nothing more than a simple on/off brewer. This is a 5-star coffee maker at $50-$75, so add 1-star to my 3-star overall for every ~$50 off of the full price MSRP. Considering that $160 *is* the new price point (I recall seeing this unit for over $200 when it first came out) I can only hope Calphalon will continue to bring the price down until they get an updated model to market. Pros: - Fast brew (10-15 minutes for a full pot) - Build quality - Warranty (nice as a 'just in case' if that aforementioned "pro" ever comes into question) - Heat/Strength of brew Con: - Basic options/features considering price - 10-cup pot is kind of humorous (again) given the price and size of the unit itself. The footprint of the unit dwarfs the pot. - If you are standing very close to the buttons they are hard to red/see if they are active (illuminated). As you back away they are much easier to see, but when standing right next to it getting a pot ready I kept finding myself having to back up to get a better viewing angle. - Seriously, the price alone is enough to keep me from recommending this to anyone

Not an appreciable difference
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was excited to get this as the coffee was supposed to be soooo much better. It's not, and I've gone back to my much more compact brewer

Now I know why Calphalon is such a revered brand
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You say, this is just a coffee maker. But it isn't. It is the best cup of brewed coffee I can ever remember making at home. I have to think the hype around the perfect temperature is really a thing, because it does taste great! I've been using a different brewer when making brewed coffee, so I decided to do a comparison. The Calphalon wins in a blind taste test with myself, but some others I've asked to sample multiple methods including K-Cup, and a couple of different brewers. The little things, that are big things, like a timer showing how long since brewed, are not lost on me. I cannot tell you how many times I've asked family or co-workers, how long the coffee had been sitting, only to hear "I just made that".....but it was 3 hours before. Coffee from this brewer should be enjoyed right after brewing, but if you forget, it will shut off after 4 hours. The taste of the coffee is truly different, in a better way with this brewer vs. others, and vs. a K-cup brewer.

Started great, not so much now
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first we loved this. Having used it for 5 months I would love to give it back. Water chamber gets very disgusting very quickly, too many plastic parts and crevices. Brewing cycle is unpredictable, water left in tank at times. Not very user friendly. Definitely do not recommend this product.

Makes Coffee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After what seems like twenty years my wife caved in and finally decided to get a new coffee machine. Surprise, the new machine makes coffee, too. Easy transition to the new machine and it fits it about the same space as the old machine. The stainless look fits in perfectly for our kitchen. Wasn't aware Calphalon did coffee pots before seeing this one. Definitely like their pots and pans. No disappointment here with the brand. For the price you get a few more features than just making coffee. You can adjust strength and supposedly get more flavor from each brew. Stilll trying to discern the latter. The delayed brew is also a nice feature to have. Whether its worth the extra price for the extra features... I don't know. I'm not convinced yet. Will have to see if machine lasts as long if not longer than the last machine.

Piece of Crap
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This coffee pot lasted 1 week. It stopped making coffee continuously when we set it up to make a pot of coffee. It dripped a few times and quit. We would repush the button and it dripped a few times and quit. After doing this about 5 times -- we boxed it up and got our money.

Strong Brew Option - a good feature
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has a LCD display with 3 buttons for easy access. It has a 4 hr warming feature to keep the brewed coffee hot and also delayed brew function. I didn't see any burn marks (very common on low end models that has heater plate at the bottom) on my carafe, . It took about 45 seconds to start dispensing coffee from the time I hit the brew button. I did see a difference when I used the "strong brew" option on it, which I like very much. I used freshly ground flavored beans and I noticed the strong flavor in my coffee with this brewer. Just one con on this brewer, it has all its access buttons and display to the left of the brewer. Also, the coffee basket slides to the left, so it will take some counter space to have it placed sideways. This is my first Caphalon product that I used and I did see some difference (from 12 days of use) in the coffee brew strength compared to the ones I owned previously, but it definitely falls on the higher end in terms of the price (hence 4 star) for a coffee brewer. I does have good aesthetics and blends well with the stainless steel appliances I have in my kitchen

Beautiful product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a beautiful coffeemaker that blends in well in any modern kitchen. The available timer option makes having your morning cup of coffee a matter of set it and forget it and the option to adjust the strength of your coffee makes it so every cup is just how you like it.

Good coffee maker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a great coffee maker and can make a lot of coffee at once with it 10 cup carafe. The coffee tastes richer using this vs your basic one. The only thing I don’t like is you don’t get a replaceable filter but it’s still a good coffee maker

Wonderful Machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will make this simple. I do not care about bells & whistles. I do not care about timers and gimmicks and built in grinders or anything that significantly adds complexity to a coffee maker. I have owned 3 Bunn machines, Cuisinart, Braun and plenty of less expensive units over the years. If this thing lasts and the performance remains steady, I will consider it the best drip coffee machine I have ever owned. It makes HOT coffee and it brews QUICKLY. It produces wonderful AROMA. It is wonderfully SIMPLE. It looks BEAUTIFUL (which I don't care about but my wife does). It makes delicious coffee. No charcoal water filters to change, no idiot lights halting operation to demand cleaning. Just simple cleaning instructions included in the user guide suggesting you clean it at appropriate intervals - with water & vinegar. Of course if you use crappy water and crappy coffee, no machine will work for you. Garbage in, garbage out. That being said, this thing makes GREAT COFFEE, appropriately HOT & it does it quickly. It is EASY to pour water into the tank, EASY to open the basket housing, EASY to clean, the carafe is sturdy, dripless and high quality, the warming plate maintains the coffee temperature without burning the coffee. I see lot's to like here and nothing to dislike. It is worth the $99 I paid and I highly recommend.

High quality coffee machine that looks good too
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does it matter whether an appliance looks good? In my opinion, not really, as I care significantly more about whether it does its job well. Luckily, this machine looks as good in our kitchen as the coffee it produces. Disclaimer, yes it’s still a drip system so if you’re wanting to extract full flavor without distractions then you should probably invest in a chem-x or other glass system. That said, an automated machine is much more convenient when you’re trying to get ready for work. I started with the typical brands at budget prices and after trial and error learned the hard way that it’s better to just invest in a better machine in the front end. Can’t go wrong with this one.

When a Single Serving Isn't Enough
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There was a time when the convenience of a quick single serving coffee maker seemed like the preferable choice. However, as our family matured, we found ourselves needing 7 cups of coffee during the breakfast rush, instead of 2. After looking at the available coffee makers that had the features we wanted, we settled on the Calphalon Special Brew 10 Cup Coffee Maker. FEATURES: - Precision Brewing Temperature delivers repeatable flavorful coffee - Delay Brewing lets you have a carafe of coffee waiting for you when you get up. - Premium Boiling system and temperature control meet SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) guidelines for brewing coffee that meets their “Golden Cup Standard”. - Pressing the clock button briefly shows how long ago the batch of coffee was brewed to indicate freshness. - For a stronger start to the day, a single press of the “Strong Brew” button will raise the level of flavor and caffeine for that one brewing session. - A backlit programmable LCD display controls all features and gives time of day. - Side view water reservoir level indicator. - 3-year limited warranty. PROS: - Attractive styling looks good on the counter. - Simple controls allow different repeatable flavor and strength. - The temperature control on the ceramic heater base does not burn the coffee in a near empty pot. It turns completely off after 4 hours. CONS: - Some have commented that the lower temperature ceramic heater base does not keep the coffee hot enough. However, properly brewed coffee should not be made with boiling water and keeping brewed coffee at tongue scalding temperatures will ruin the taste quickly. It’s a matter of “taste”. However, if you want coffee brewed hot enough to be drinkable from a thermos after a 45 minute commute, the Calphalon Special Brew 10 Cup Coffee Maker might not be for you. - A relatively short power cord (25 inches) is fine if you have a counter outlet nearby, but be careful if you need an extension cord. Common household 4 to 5 foot two wire extension cords are too light and will overheat. A more robust 15 amp extension cord would be safe if one is needed. - Water is added through the top rear of the machine. This can be awkward if the coffee maker is located under a low cupboard overhang. CONCLUSION: The Calphalon Special Brew 10 Cup Coffee Maker looks good on the counter. It matches both stainless steel and black appliances. It just happens to brew great tasting coffee too.

A Decent Coffee Maker!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an avid coffee drinker, I was elated to start using this coffee maker. However, while nice to look at and it makes piping hot coffee swiftly with a warmer that keeps it hot up to 4-hours, it doesn’t justify the price point in my opinion. My present coffee maker, while useful doesn’t have the best warmer. When drinking my first cup of coffee it tasted good. My sister loves Starbuck’s special blend coffees that are available for holidays, so we tried some on this coffee maker and the taste was good. If you’re a coffee drinker and you want to experience that premium coffee tasting experience, this is definitely the unit for you!

Get if on sale
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wouldn’t pay retail for this but we got it on a deal of the day and it’s been great for the value. It brews a great cup of coffee quickly and looks sleek. It’s really simple to use as well. My only complaint is that it’s very difficult to get the last bit of coffee out of the carafe when it’s done.
