Got the 70D when the wife and i got serious about racing photography. I upgraded from a canon rebel xs and rebel xti and haven't looked back. It was like upgrading from a 13 inch black and white tv to a 50 in smart tv, it was that much better. We were reluctant to buy 2 cameras at once but we don't regret it one bit. We got her the 18-135stm kit and i got the body only and paired it with the 70-200 f4 non is that we got a few years back. The image quality is great, the 7 frames per second is great vs the 3 on the old rebels, the quality at high iso is great and we use it alot shooting car racing after the sun goes down. The body fits my hands way better than eather rebel ever did. The only bad thing would be that its a heavier. Im pretty sure this is good as it gets without buying a full frame camera. Would I recommend this? he#% yes I would

Best DSLR for video yet. No more follow focus!

I just recieved this camera with the 18-135mm kit yesterday and it is amazing! After some basic tests I have come to the conclusion that this is my favorite camera yet. The autofocus in video mode is perfect and smooth. You can simply touch the part of the screen you want to focus on and boom! Smooth quick focus. Way faster and more accurate than the sony translucent tech and it tracks the subject youre trying to film way better. The speed at which this camera takes photos is unfathomable. In continuous shooting mode with raw images it shoots at full speed for almost a minute before the buffer can't handle it. Also the low light performance for a camera in this range is at a whole new level! Even at the highest ISO it exceeds the average of other cameras in this price range by FAR! If you're upgrading from a rebel or 60D this is the camera you want no doubt. And with the WIFI options previously only offered on the 6D the value of this camera can not be beat. Not to mention the new 20.2 MP sensor. Talk about sharp. I can't wait to see what the full frame 7D MKII will be able to do whenever it comes out. Canon always taking the DSLR race to the next level.

Great camera - a few quirks

I love the camera overall, but a few of the negatives you should know before buying: > the video mode uses the display screen, which will zap your battery quickly. There doesn't seem to be an option to turn this off, but I've heard the screen will turn off if you flip it around to face the camera... since you can't see it, it's not possible to know if this is true. > multiple exposure shooting sounded promising, but has been useless. In multiple exposure shooting, you want different parts of the screen to have different exposures, however that is not what you get with this. You literally get multiple (even# exposures, so things don't really blend well. You can re-use some of your RAW images when shooting multi-exposure, so that could be neat if the overall multiple exposure setting worked better. > HDR shooting is handled better than multi-exposure. This is actually semi-useful, but not as good as you get by separate, stand-alone applications. Ideally, it would take a single exposure #in say RAW format# and then process it 3 different ways to generate the HDR, but that is not what happens. It still takes 3 different pictures, which often leads to camera shake. There is also a lack of saturation/color settings for HDR; it's just a one-size-fits-all. I find I still use separate applications for both multi-exposure and HDR. >the touch screen and quick menus work pretty well, but there are just too many options and it's hard to find things. There is a "Q" button which brings up the most common menu options you would need in that shooting mode, which is really useful. Otherwise, the regular manu has around 15 pages worth of options, so unless you know exactly where to look for something, you'll spend so much time looking through the menus that you miss the picture. > picture quality I've always thought lacked color depth. The camera allows you many options for adjusting color which helps some, but the auto/default has always been lackluster. > Silent mode is very quiet, but not silent. Silent mode also reduces the maximum FPS to about 3 or 3.5. You only get 7 fps when shooting in loud mode. > video has below average audio quality, but that is not surprising given that it's a microphone in a camera body. I took some videos in a wind environment and you can't hear anyone talking, even though they are right next to the camera. A couple of positives: > You can shoot a still image while recording a video, but if you do, there will be a ~3 second pause within the video where you took the still image. In some situations this could be a neat effect, but really inconvenient in others #such as recording and shooting a concert performance#. It would have been nice to have dual SD cards and the ability to do both video and stills without interruption. > Similarly, you can shoot both JPG and RAW at the same time. > ISO is really clean and I love that it goes as high as 12800. It's a little grainy at the max ISO, but 6400 is still clean and works in almost all settings.

Canon Eos 70d - Faulty in both body and mechanical

I purchased this Canon as an upgrade to 2 previous Canon cameras I owned, believing this would be a step up. The dial fell within off within 6 months so not sure which mode it is in, and changing lenses error's keep popping up not allowing me to take pictures. Best Buy was of no help with me in replacing or repairing this camera. They did however have me wait for over an hour to tell me this.

I previously owned a 60D and was hesitant about upgrading but after researching it finally decided to bite the bullet. I bought this as the body only since i already had an 18-135mm lens and love this camera! I cant think of a single thing i dont like about it. From beginners to professionals as a backup this camera is great for anyone. You have the flip screen which is great for tripod use or hard to reach spots, the video quality is amazing, it shoots at fast shutter speeds, has a fast frames per second, and also has multi point focus instead of a single point of focus like the previous 60D. All in all, an amazing camera

I picked up my 70D in the morning. Got home set it up and went for a walk through the park. I used all of the settings except Video and I am very pleased at the results. Live View is very quick, if focuses quickly, I love the additional AF points. It has many more features that I will be trying out in the coming days. I own a 60D and this is a definite step up and forward. Right out of the box it took very good photo's, and I took a couple in early evening on AUTO ISO and the photo's came out better than I expected. Right now the RAW format isn't recognized in Lightroom 4.4. If you are an existing Canon DSLR user, reload the software for working on photo's, then you can shoot RAW if you need that discipline.

    A Great Camera To Own

I had bought the Canon 60D last year and I love it! But I was looking to upgrade and get another camera, so after calling Canon, and they had told me about the 70D. I wanted to take a look at it, and after reading about it. I will be preordering this camera because I love it! I also like that Canon also offers a toll free number and a website to help the people who have questions about the camera, so they can learn about it! Canon stands by its cameras! I would recommend this camera to anyone. I know I am looking to getting it myself!

Great entry point for DSLR or crop upgrade. The new AF is really fast especially pared with the new Sigma 18-35mm. Search youtube, it's all over the place!

I love my 70D! This one was purchased as a back-up, in case anything should happen to my other 70D & I need another camera STAT. I've really enjoyed the quality of the photos it takes.

    Good upgrade

My starter camera was a Canon Rebel XS so this was definitely a step up from that. It's much quieter and has a lot of nice features. My only complaint is that there seems to be a focusing issue when shooting at f 1.8. I specifically bought a lens that would shoot at that aperture so I could get better photos inside but this camera doesn't quite deliver those photos. When using my lens on my old camera, it works fine...so i know it's not the lens...it's the camera. However, I do like the camera overall.

    Big upgrade from the 60D

I upgraded from the 60D and this is a huge improvement. The main feature for me was the continuous auto focus in video mode, amazing. If the new 80D isn't much more I would grab that one if I was you. I use this with a 50mm and the 10-22mm canon lens. I also use a rode mic and the Joby slr zoom tripod.
