Definite Upgrade from the G7X for YouTube!

If you're a video content creator for youtube and thinking of getting the G7X, do yourself a huge favor and consider the M50 instead. Prior to the M50 I had the G7X mark 2, and the recently introduced mark 3. I returned the mark 3 after a week due to the extremely poor autofocus which seemed to be worse than the mark 2. On the mark 2, the lack of a mic input was also mildly infuriating. After doing a lot of research I landed on the M50 and couldn't be happier. Don't let the photos online fool you into thinking the camera is huge, it isn't. You have to see the M50 in person to understand how compact it really is. Paired with the 22mm EFM lens it's even more compact. Video and images really come to life on this camera and the autofocus has been a dream come true. Having a mic hot-shoe also means goodbye to audio syncing! The standard M50 bundle is only $650 compared to the G7X mark 3 at $750! You can add in the EFM 22mm prime lens and that's still only $150 more than the cost of the G7X. On top of that you get a hot-shoe mic attachment, MUCH better auto focus, more versatile lens options, APSC sensor, longer battery life, more photo filters, and the list goes on. I highly recommend this camera to anyone who is considering the G7X or any other "beginner" Vlogging camera.

This camera is great but if you’re looking to live stream unless you’re a professional photographer, go with a Nicer webcam

Love this camera. I use it for headshots at my work. However, I am finding it difficult to find a lens that will work well with the size of this camera. This is great for anyone looking to get into photography or even video. I've noticed it works really well in low light which is an added bonus.

This is a great starter camera and a solid choice to get you started in the DSLR world! Video quality is good and photo quality is perfect for use on Instagram, etc. since you don't need a full frame camera for smaller screens. I switched from a EF mount Canon camera and can use my previous lenses (ex. 50mm EF) without having to purchase a whole new set. Fits in a small bag/backpack and you won't mind carrying it all day. Must haves are a 2nd battery, external mic, small handheld tripod/grip and you will be good to go.

    Canon M-50 Review

I bought this camera a few months ago on the day of my sister's wedding. It has been a phenomenal beginning camera since, and I would recommend it 10/10 to anyone else looking into beginner photography. I would recommend getting some EF lenses and the EF-M adapter for the camera it has made the quality excellent.

I’m very new to photography and can’t be more pleased with this camera. I was choosing between this one and the Sony A6000 or A6500. Ultimately I liked the features and price point of this one. I have not been disappointed. The on-screen guides are very helpful for a beginner but do not really impede taking pictures. Some reviews said it felt cheaply made but I do not get that impression at all. I ended up getting this with the lens bundle and then also picking up another lens package that went with regular Canon cameras (along with an off-brand adapter). Overall I’m impressed with the great pictures it takes and the many features, all at a very nice price point for a beginner like me.

A lot of people hate this camera because they're trying to compare this with a $2,000+ camera. This is a great camera that takes good pictures and very good video recording. The 4k is kinda useless but I mainly do 1080 recording and it does great at that. I don't do professional video shots/pictures so this camera does great for normal great pics and vlogging with awesome quality. This camera would definitely get 5 stars if the 4k was not useless.

Just found out it will not record more than 30 min

I purchased this camera for some work projects and personal use. I was getting ready to record my Grand Daughters play she has the lead in at school this weekend. I purchased a external mic and was testing the camera because I was worried about my 128 gig card not being large enough to record the just over a hour play. The camera kept turning off at 30 min. Battery is fine. I did a google search and wish I would have before I purchased it. The camera is limited for 30 min max record time. What a joke. My other problem is the manual they include with the camera is TINY many pages but its only like 4x5 inches and TINY letters. Now everyone buying these are 18-25 years old with great eyes some of us are in our 60's with less than perfect eyes.

Misleading specifications / terrible return policy

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this camera based on the salesperson telling me it had 4K video. However, it is not full 4k but UHD. What is worse is that the crop factor is absurdly high as opposed to the 1.6x crop factor that it has with pictures or standard HD video. I feel like I was definitely misled by the sales person. I returned the camera 2 days later and was charged a $90 restocking fee. I wasn't told about this fee and even on the online page, it isn't clearly stated (only when you click through other screens.) If you are buying this camera for 4K capability, maybe rethink this one. If you are buying any camera, maybe rethink buying from Best Buy due to their sales people's poor product knowledge and their bad return policy.

Maybe a decent camera application is terrible...

As a software developer I am baffled that Canon will call the EOS application production ready. Not only is the hardware failing to show up under windows, but Canon goes and gives wrong advice on the solution. The application is garbage, if you want to take pictures and store on the internal SD card you are good. However, if you want to take the information and transfer via USB, or use the camera for Web utility forget about it. Windows 10 Ryzen 9 3950x, Mac w/i7, ton of ram etc no system is reading the camera or the application just comes back as cant recognize hardware. DO NOT BUY the post sale support is terrible.
