Bang for your Buck
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was a Nikon guy before, I'm happy with the switch. It handles easy and the tech part of it is so simple I can teach beginners on it. It is well worth the price and if you can get the special with another photo lens almost for free. Its much smaller than my Nikon, and just a bit bigger than my Olympus Pen, makes it easy for traveling.

Awesome for beginners, basic photo and video
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a musician who wanted to shoot videos and I have basic videography understanding. For it's price, this is awesome for beginners and will get you professional results. This seemed to be the lowest model that could get 1080p. There are a ton of features and buttons, so you may have to do a lot of youtube research, but after a week of reading the manual and watching videos, I know my way around the camera pretty easily. If you're shooting video, make sure to buy a large memory card and some extra batteries (OEM batteries are cheaper). Learn about ISO, Aperture, and Shutter speed before you use this (youtube!). I bought the 2 yr warranty, so Im at peace of mind about dropping it or whatever.

Worth the upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this camera (for myself) on Black Friday so I could have it before the holidays. I initially wanted the T2i, but upgraded to the T3i for the moveable viewer. This turned out to be hugely helpful when taking family photos using the timer--which we do a lot of during the holidays. You can fold the viewer out and rotate it forward, so even if you can't see it clearly when you hit the timer and jump in front of the camera with the family, you can see it well enough to know if your head is getting cut off. The picture quality puts to shame my old 35mm compact camera, although I guess I expected that with 18 megapix. I have struggled a little bit trying to toggle between the camera's various functions. The owner's manual is clear, but it's not completely intuitive trying to do it on the fly. I also can't get it to take the number of frames-per-second as advertised, but I think this may have something to do with using the flash and/or the memory chip I'm using. Overall I'm very happy, and consider this money well spent.

This is my first experience with a DSLR camera.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first purchase of a DSLR camera and I was influenced by the many other good reviews for this model both on the Best Buy website and other websites I researched while doing my "homework". I was a bit intimidated by the camera initially, but once I finally picked it up and started playing with it I found it relatively easy to use. I also own a Canon point and shoot digital camera and some of the features on the SLR are similar which might account for the ease of use. That being said, I still intend on taking a photography class at my local high school so that I'm able to fully utilize all the many wonderful features of this little marvel. The quality of the pictures I have taken so far are excellent and I look forward to many happy years using my new toy!

A very nice camera for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I literally just decided to start using a dedicated camera for taking shots of my family because I was getting tired of using the low end camera option on a cell phone. I started researching and found that cost would definitely be a factor on my purchase. I didn't want to over spend and I didn't want to settle for the lesser of all options. I chose the T3i for the swivel LCD and the ability to perform minor changes to photos from the in menu options and noticed it had a lot of similarities to it's big brothers the T4i and T5i for a lesser price. As I started messing around with the lens provided, I noticed there are options for someone who only wants to point and shoot and the results are actually pretty impressive. There is also a function in the rear that will give small explanations to each option so you have someting to reference if deciding to venture into Manual mode. In terms of the lens , I found that it has decent range from very close up photos and semi-close subjects. Obviously, there is minimal zoom but for being a starter lens, it's not a bad option. The IS and AF help a lot. Due to my impulsive nature, I purchased both the 50 mm IS(Nifty Fifty# and the 50-250mm IS 4-5.6 lens which ran roughly under $300 more. #Research to find the best prices. I did not pay full retail on either lens). If you really want to get the best pictures, I suggest investing in a couple of lenses for that purpose. The 50mm is great for close up shots and portraits and the 250mm is pretty good at both along with zoom range and with the IS, it makes it a great deal. I know this review should only be on the lens kit, but I feel it's important to know that there are better options for different situations. Overall, the T3i has performed well above my expectations and I am completely satisfied with the purchase. Speaking with professional photographers, They say lense quality and build strengthens the ability to shoot in different settings with maximum results and probably matters the most.

Excellent camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We absolutely love the camera! It is perfect for a novice photographer who wants to learn how to take better pictures. The automatic settings produce wonder pictures which inspires a person to learn about the possibilities beyond the automatic settings without becoming overwhelmed and discouraged.

Really great camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first DSLR camera and I love it. It is a little bit pricy but really worth to buy if you like photograhy. I wish I could spend more time on figuring out how to use it in different modes but for right now it makes really nice pictures just using auto mode. Really happy with the purchase, everyone noticed difference on my pictures.

Great DSLR For Amateur
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first DSLR camera, so I was looking something easy to use. I just purchased it 2 days ago, so I haven't had time to experiment with everything. The automatic focus can take a little while to focus at times, which is fixed by using manual focus. The manual focus is really simple to use. I tried the full manual mode and, as a beginner, was thrilled to see that the camera says what each setting does (ISO, aperture, shutter speed). I even managed to get a fantastic picture on the third try! Which considering I've never used full manual mode, it was really impressive! I'm far from the professional, but I have no complaints about the kit lens that this camera comes with. I was between this camera and a Canon T3, but the Best Buy employee recommended that I get the T3i because he thought I'd "out grow" the T3 too quickly. I'm happy with my choice, and I love this camera!

Easy to Use, Great Quality. A very nice camera.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well worth the money with the included 18-55mm lens. Camera body: Good ergonomics. Won't easily drop this camera. Shutter and other button placement is acceptable. Lack of a real Viewfinder eyepiece, makes for nose contact on the back (screen) when using the viewfinder. Cant change shutter speed/aperture as easily as I want. 18-55mm Lens: Lens is a kit lens, so not the highest quality in feel and construction. Image quality is great for most purposes. Recommend you purchase addl battery if you plan on weekends out with heavy shooting. You will be glad you have a new charged battery when you need it.

Overall very nice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is certainly the best camera I've ever owned. Not meaning much though since I am certainly an amateur photographer. This camera is very easy to use and coupled with the 430EXII flash, and Photoshop elements software creates the best photos of our newborn daughter that we could ever ask for. I was set on a Nikon 5100 instead of this for the better sensor, however, using them in-hand made this decision sway towards the Canon. DP reviews were hand in hand between the two. The only gripe is the Canon software provided isn't a simple install on Mac OS Lion. So handling RAW images seems to be a little in the dark of rme right now since photoshop elements won't edit them. I have had success in the past with Canon's tech support and will contact them on this issue soon. That being said, RAW images can at least be stored and viewed in iPhoto until I I can get either a better editing software capable of manipulating RAW files. Brilliant pics regardless. Learning how to bounce and diffuse with the additional external flash has helped here significantly too. A lot of fun.

I love this Camera!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this camera and everything about it! I'm having fun learning how to navigate all the many gadgets. I'm new to SLR so it's taking me some time to get to know my new "friend". The manual is a bit complicated, but that's just a learning curve for me. I wish it came with a DVD manual that explained some of the technical terms. I just bought the SLR book for dummies, so I will train myself. This camera is worth every penny. I use it to take action shots of my son's .....one is in karate in a low lighted dojo and my other on the football field in the bright sun!

Very good DSLR, but could be better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our first experience with a DSLR. We've had several point-and-shoot 35mm and digital cameras over the years. We wanted a quality SLR that could take nice photos from a distance and without a flash. We have young kids who always have concerts or recitals or musicals, and point-and-shoot cameras simply don't have the sensor size or shutter speed to handle this. They would always come out blurred or extremely dark. The Rebel T3i excels in these situations. Virtually all photos that we've taken have come out beautifully. For beginners like us, the controls are pretty simple and straightforward (after a few minutes with the manual). Usually I keep the camera in flash-off mode because the photos just look so much more natural, yet with plenty of light. The HD video is also very clear, but this is one of the things I'm not crazy about. If you're taking a long video of a concert, you'll be fine. But the camera will not change focus while recording. This means if you try to zoom in or focus on something new, you have to manually focus with the lens. And obviously this never looks perfect. The live-view screen is very nice and I like the articulating screen that allows you to see what you're shooting if you have to hold your camera over your head or something. The autofocus with the Live View is very slow, though. I, probably like others, assumed the autofocusing would be the same, but it's completely different. I've gotten used to taking pictures without the screen, but if you're addicted to the screen from all the LCD panels we have now, the performance won't seem great to you. (focus time can be 2-4 seconds vs. 0.5 seconds) The review on cnet.com was very helpful. I would probably try out the Nikon D5100 if I was to do this again. But I'm still very happy with the T3i.

Out Of The Box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the box this camera is shooting pictures 30 times better than my Powershot is30. I am blown away with the shots I'm getting. I am a total know nothing too with cameras. This is my first DSLR. I plan on learning everything about this camera and how to take better pictures. It's inspiring almost. I had the camera for 24 hours and I am already floored.

Great camera, first time DSLR user.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems fairly simple to use. I have read the owner's manual which was helpful. Takes awesome pictures. Great price. I am not experienced with the DSLR camera, but I have loved playing with it and trying different things. It works great taking several pictures in a row, such as golf.

Great camera for beginner!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great camera for a beginner but makes you look like you are a professional. My friends can't believe the quality of the pictures. I think I have a little bit of talent for picture taking but probably not much more than the average person. It is very easy to use. Now I would love to take a class on photography.

Lots of Bells & Whistles
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used a "state of the art" 35 mm camera I bought new in Vietnam in 1969 for 37 years--shot fantastic pictures and when the digital cameras came out, their quality couldn't hold a candle to the 35 mm film camera. Finally in 2006, the quality was good enough that I bought a Canon XTi. Shortly after the warranty ran out, the flash started going off without taking a picture. Since my canon flash was not out of warranty and I thought that was the problem, I sent it in for repair. They sent it back saying nothing was wrong with the flash, send in the camera (they knew something I didn't). I tried a second flash attachment and found out it WAS the camera, not the flash. I finally bought a new Canon T2i in January, 2012. It started doing the same thing. I sent it in for repair and they replaced the camera. Same problem with the second T2i! I replaced it with this T3i. It started flashing before I even took my first picture!!!! Since they have done it with more than one flash attachment and I very seldom use the built-in flash, but at least one camera was flashing with the built-in flash, apparently Canon is using the same flash (and same flash problem) in all their DSLRs. I will be returning this and replacing it with a Nikon. Other than the flash, everything is good, but I take a lot of flash pictures and usually in places where there are a lot of people, so it is a BIG problem for me. One more comment about the video...It focuses before shooting video, but does not refocus if subject changes distance. If you want video, this is definitely NOT the camera for you.
