Great Camera...but doesn't cut it for XXD users.

I own many Canon cameras/bodies, but the main to compare are my 40D, 20D and S95. Yes, the S95 vs. T3i. It is amazing. When I bought this T3i on 12/31/11, I knew it had drawbacks. There are some that are impossible to live with. I cannot set Kelvin white balance temp. I cannot use a TC-80N3 without adapters or a different shutter release. No top LCD that I use very frequently. No scroll wheel to adjust aperture in manual on the back (a carryover from the 300D that I owned and loved to move to a 20D). After many years of shooting digital, I know where to throw my Kelvin temps. This "shoot something white" stuff is great for my S95. Not on a DSLR body. On both, you can tweak the color a bit, but I like K temps. These higher end features are nearly worthless to a non-XXD user. But, to move from the higher bodies to this, it hurts. I used the T3i on New Year's Eve and spent an infinite amount of time on simple adjustments that my other bodies had instant access to. The overall output? EXCELLENT! I shot in RAW/JPEG, but only edited JPEGs as RAW files in Adobe ACR (CS3) with my normal RAW workflow. Great results. That is the same flow I use with my S95 since CS3 does not offer RAW support and DPP software is horrible. Highlights and shadow levels can be nicely adjusted as JPEGs in ACR. Awesome feature added in CS3. The output at ISO 6400 is very nice. The 1080p videos at ISO 6400, not so great. That 18-55 IS lense is not bad for the added price. Canon does a great job with IS at the lower price levels. I have no idea about the automatic controls. My T3i has been in two modes...manual and video. The only two that should exist on a DSLR body! AV/TV are great too (if you actually understand them...), but the others (GREEN SQUARE) are nothing more than glorified P&S modes. Buy the Canon A3300 if you plant to use those modes. Overall, the T3i is a great camera body for beginners and people with a decent amount of experience. I do recommend it. It just doesn't fit my use/experience and that is not meant to degrade it. But, I bought my 300D Rebel in October 2004 and quickly dumped it for my 20D in early February 2005. HUGE DIFFERENCE! I still shoot my 20D just as much as the 40D...17-40 f/4L on one and a 70-200 f/2.8L on the other. 580EX and 580EXII on the bodies with a shared 430EX slave. Awesome.

It's an awesome camera although it's not so different from T2i. High resolution photo I can take with this camera. I really love the 2 seconds video clip function which bring much fun to me and save me time to edit the video with a computer. Quite a good one for a beginner even for some professional.

Very good camera! I've never owned a DSLR camera, and this camera was my first. I looked around at Best Buy stores for other cameras, but I fell in love with this one. I use it pretty much everyday! It's very easy to use and the battery life is great! Overall it's an excellent camera!

I had a Canon Rebel (film) camera, then upgraded to a Canon Rebel digital and for Mother's day upgraded again to this one. I absolutely love it. I had loved my previous rebel for years, but compared my photos to a friends at a ballgame. She was able to get much clearer action shots. I upgraded and have been so pleased. I was able to take photos completely across the field with my new zoom lens without a tripod!

Great quality, easy to use. Very nice. The price point is good. I have no complaints. Haven't needed to look at the newer models because this is like brand new still after 3 years of traveling and photographing.

I had an opportunity to use major features of Rebel T3i during my wife's dance performance recently. Although I wanted to take both pictures and record video, I ended up recording video during the entire performance. Photos are excellent with brilliant colors. I even had a little photo contest with my friend and his point-and-shoot. The difference is very clear between SLR and point-and-shoot camera. Especially when you zoom into the subject. Only negative I have to say is regarding video recording. During the recording the zoom operation is not very easy. Capturing still during recording will cause 2 second pause. I am still learning to use this camera, I might get better at recording video in future. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone who is new to SLR.

I'm just a beginner so I can't go an about all the fancy do-dads on this camera, but I already have 600 great pictures, and hope to take many more through the years. The camera is just a dream to use, and I plan on taking it most everywhere with me. Can't wait to learn how to use it to it's full potential.

For beginners like me who likes to upgrade from point & shoot cameras to dslr cameras, this is the right one for you. This camera is so easy to use. The features were great & easy to understand too. Great price! It's like buying a small version of 60D model.

I LOVE this camera. Although I am not a professional photography, it has all the attributes that I needed in a camera and definitely more. I am still learning how to use a lot of its features but the picture quality is amazing. The only thing wrong with this camera is it's user!

Great buy for the money. Asd said still learning about features. Would like to have some sort of course to learn more in depth. But simple to use and my pictures look more professional everyday. I do believe that the newer model has eliminated my disappointment in having to twist the mode selection dial all round from picture to video shooting. Other then that it will do me a few years till i update again.

I got this camera on sale and it's so far met all of my expectations. It's not a full frame camera like the 7D, but it's great for someone like me whose a casual and photo enthusiast. The pictures come out clear and crisp in the Auto mode. My only recommendation is to get an extra zoom lens and extra battery to get the most out of performance on vacation trips. A tripod and camera case are also needed accessories that I would recommend. The video on the camera is great! Very clear and crisp videos. It gets a bit clunky, so a tripod helps when you hold onto for an extended video. I would highly recommend this camera.

Can you say DSLR + HD videos!!!!!!!

My wife bought this camera for me on father's day, it was a pretty sweet gift since i'm really into photography. I just had a new born too so it was nice to have it around to capture all those beginning moments. Nice to have HD video capabilities too but it failed on me when I needed it most. For some reason the videos capture kept cutting out or quitting on me. My card was a class 10 with 20 mb/s of transfer speed but I guess the camera was not operating as it should. That really was a bummer since it was suppose to be a dual purpose camera, now it only seems like I'll be taking mostly photos. This camera is really not that much of an upgrade from the T2i, except for the flip LCD screen. The two cameras are exactly alike for the most part so if you don't really need to take them low and high shots then go with the T2i and save yourself an extra hundred bucks. Like I said I love photography so even though it doesn't really succeed at videos, I'm glad it'll do for my photos.

This camera is a major upgrade from my previous Rebel. The biggest complaint I have is that the printed manuel is in Spanish and Best Buy will not correct this. There is a disc that comes with it so that you can read the manuel in several languages. The video clip feature is an excellent addition, those I rarely use it. The image stabilized lense that comes with the camera is extremely useful. The picutures are much better that my previous camera and the enlargements are much more attractive. I have had problems with the autofocus in low Iight. I would recommend this camera to those that can not afford a professional grade camera.

    Fantastic Beginner D-SLR

I'm completely new to the world of DLSR's and shopped around for a good unit that would last me for awhile. I had originally been looking at the T3i and the T2i. Other than some photo shooting features and the swing out LCD, there isn't much difference between the two however I ended up getting the T3i and don't regret it one bit. For the uninitiated, this might take some time getting used to since even the settings have settings on this camera. Previously, I had been just fine with my SD780 IS P&S but wanted something a little more to play around with. I'm still learning all the features about the T3i but it's been great so far even though I've only had it for a couple days now. The pictures on this thing are super crisp and the HD video (while grainy at max zoom) is great as well. For me, i think the unit is a bit on the small side but for more normal people, I think this will be fine if not a little bit on the larger side. My only "gripe" about this thing is that the auto-focus is a little slow at times and doesn't pick up images but that could be simply my lack of understanding with the settings. Overall, I'm super thrilled about this camera and looking forward to testing it out and taking great pictures form now on.

After owning this camera for 2 months now, I can't say enough about it. Its my 1st DSLR and it takes such crystal clear and vivid images, I don't know how I ever got by with a point n shoot other than the cost$$$ difference. If your thinking about buying one, don't hesitate!!!

First and formost this is very good starter/intermediate DSLR camera, for anyone wanting to take the time and learn to use it for more than instant point n shoot stuff, my uses are for astrophoto's, and some creative pic's, Some of the Accesories can get expensive, ie..lens batteries tripods, it depends how far you want to go with photography..there are alot of free learnig sites on the web for this camera, find em and use em, you'll get great joy with this camera
