Hesitant to Give it 3 Stars

I say that as I waiver to give it more stars AND less stars. On one hand I was excited to reminisce about an updated version of what is basically a modern Polaroid, minus the shaking and waiting. To take ONE picture and have it print. There’s something concrete and certain about it. In the days where you can click a thousand pictures and take the best one, this challenges the user to be selective. It is solid and rigid. Everything I’d expect from Canon. The simplicity of B&W, Vivid and border features makes easy enough for a younger child to use. It’s rechargeable via USB (which is fast!). Outside, the pictures were more than I expected. Now keep in mind we’re talking about Zinc paper. It is made for speed, not quality. But nonetheless, quality was higher than expected. Now for the negatives. First off, I’m all about simplicity. But for the instructions to not have a single word??? Just pictures. I’d like to think I am a capable person, but it took me two tries to figure out which way the paper went in because it wasn’t specific enough in the directions and there were only two ways to put it in. At first I thought I was doing something wrong taking pictures. It took a while to respond after I took the picture, and because of that I burned through three more photos by accident thinking the pictures weren’t registering. While picture quality in natural lighting is great for what it is, the pictures I took inside were bland and poor. It did in fact remind me of an old Polaroid photo where the zinc didn’t squeeze through properly. These were the first photos I took and was about to give up. I’m glad I went to other locations to try different light settings. Picture paper refills are “reasonably” priced for the market. For the retail price point of this product, I think it’s a little overpriced for a gimmicky camera. But for my daughter who is very artistic and loves to make sticker books and be creative, I know she will enjoy this camera. So my bi-polar review is two stars and, in the same breath, 3.5 stars. I would hesitantly recommend this product to a friend, mainly as a gift for a young teen.

    A Fun, “Instant” Print Camera!

The Ivy Cliq 2 brings back those retro instant print cameras with some nice, modern updates! Cell phones are taking some great photos nowadays, but the only issue is that you generally have to just view them from a phone or digital device unless you get them printed somewhere, which detracts from some of the fun. Enter the Ivy Cliq 2. It’s small enough that you can fit it in your pocket easily but it’s about twice as thick as most current smartphones. It has a printer inside of it so this is completely understandable. It has a very satisfying, but simulated, “snap” sound when you take a photo which brings back some nostalgia of cameras back in the day. An extremely smart idea is the selfie mirror that is built around the lens - a very smart non-digital solution to grabbing those selfies. The printing process takes about 45-50 seconds from you taking the actual photo and the photo quality is on par for what I would expect out of an instant print camera. They have a bit of grain to them but to be honest, I quite like that look from this style of camera. The camera has a flash for taking photos in lower light but the photo quality for photos taken inside is not as great with most photos turning out a bit green/blue. You can also use a black and white mode and a vivid color mode for some different styles. Each of the photos is printed on sticker paper, so you can peel off the back and stick the photos onto a surface. The stickiness was impressive - seriously. It was very secure while sticking it on to most flat surfaces but what I found nice is that you could still easily remove them and stick them on to another surface later. I tried this about a dozen times and it still had adhesiveness even after so many removals and reapplications. It’s nice that you can insert a micro SD card to save photos as they are being taken but it does not appear to be a mode to turn off the photo printing with each photo and just save a digital copy of the photo. Overall, this camera is really fun and it’s a fun thing to have around at parties!

Keep Your Expectations in Check and You'll Love It

Let's get this review started! First off, this isn't a DSLR, this isn't a dedicated point and shoot, this is an instant camera which means you'll be able to take a picture and get it printed instantly. With that out of the way, let me say that this camera is so much fun. I'm sure that this camera will eventually be stolen by my daughter, but for the time being I'm torturing the family by taking pictures of everything around the house incessantly. Camera performance is great in most lighting, but you definitely notice a degradation of quality in low light, so be aware of that limitation. Outdoor shots with this camera came out crisp and clear. The camera prints quickly, so within a few seconds you should be holding a picture that's slowly fading into view like in the olden days of instant film cameras. The advantage is that you actually have a picture right then and there, sometimes of mediocre quality, but you do indeed have a picture in your hands instead of one sitting on your SD card until you someday decide to print it off. The camera uses special paper which is of course a tad pricey, so be sure to catch sales when possible. The only star I'm knocking off is for the special paper, which much like ink cartridges is proprietary and I just don't really dig proprietary refill methods for products. If you buy this camera with the right expectations, of it being a fun camera and not a professional shooting device, then I believe you won't be disappointed. This would make a fantastic gift for a child or tween as well and should be a hot item for the holidays. Pros: Small size Decent battery life Decent quality pictures Cons: Low light performance is meh Proprietary paper

    Shared memories on the go

The Canon - Ivy is a fun novelty that provides memories that can be instantly printed and shared. The camera comes with a charging cable, printer paper, and a carry strap. Setup is easy, insert the printer paper into the camera, power on, and you're ready. To print, take a photo and wait a few seconds, the printer starts automatically. The printing function is a bit louder than expected, but not enough to detract from the experience. In addition to instant print function, the camera also will take a micro SD card to store photos. The build of the camera is as expected, medium weight, and durable enough to withstand a drop or two. My teen puts it on her wrist and proceeds to knock it into doorways as she walks past, all of which this camera has withstood. The camera has a selfie mirror to allow for the correct angle every time, and the flash is automatic to reduce (but not eliminate) the number of dark blurry photos you get. Loading the refillable paper is easy, and each replacement pack comes with instructions on how to load. Unfortunately, extra packs of photo paper are not included and will need to be purchased separately. The photo paper has a sticky back to turn into stickers, and the camera allows for adding frames as well as filters. My teen especially enjoys turning these into stickers for her locker and school folders. Overall, its a fun camera to create medium resolution memories to print and share in the moment. It will not beat most cell phone cameras for photo quality, but it does give you the ability to have something in the moment. My teen loves it and enjoys the ability to create and share photos with her friends instantly.
